Pokemon Gold / Silver for DS announced

So I haven't been keeping up on this.

Original game spoilers below, it's been a while but just in case.

But finishing Silver and opening up the original games location was probably the most epic thing I've ever experienced in a game. Any word on if these will include those original locations?
Well... I do see a monorail track, but that doesn't make it absolutely certain.

They wouldn't leave that in there just for the hell of it.
Not necessarily. They could, for example, not allow you to ride the train, but have characters from Kanto arrive on it. But yeah, I doubt they would limit the game to Johto; smallest region in the series.

I'm pretty sure they'll have to add Kanto, as there are two paths going to it.

I also hope that the train tracks won't just VANISH when exploring Johto.

Can't wait for the Red BATTLE =D

Same here. I wonder if they'll remix that battle at least a bit. Or hell, make it so that you can challenge him at different locations, and he'll mix up his team each time... :D

More scans have cropped up confirming something FUCKING AWESOME

All Pokéman can follow you

FUCK YEAH!

Pokédex and the PC box is controlled via touch screen. Major overhauling to the Pokédex it seems.

Some copypasta
I saw the screens on Serebii.net. That shit is GODLY.

The new pokedex and stat screen is amazing!

WTF why do they get a special Pokeyman.

The site confirms: all the Pokemon can follow you, from your first to even the legendaries.

edit: ^^^ No announcement currently, but Wii Will Rock U (who I'm somewhat skeptical of, but that's just me) says it's coming Spring 2010. Sounds about right, too.

That would be a gigantic "fuck you." Worse than just leaving out Kanto and pretending it doesn't exist.

That's clearly Route 22 on right side of the map.
I think you're right.

Only difference is that the orange building (victory road entrance? Can't remember, lol) is moved further to the left. Everything else looks identical. Hot shit.

Well don't just say that! Explain why.
The official site is putting info up, FYI: http://translate.google.com/transla...ion/system02.html&sl=ja&tl=en&history_state0=

Meh... The Pokedex looks like a calender. I'm happy I'll be able to move Pokemon across boxes faster than molasses now. Also, I love how they expanded Cainwood(?, the island near the whirlpools) with the battle frontier (? again). I remember gearing up to explore a whole new island, only to be let down because it was one measly little town, and then as if to apologise, BAM! (spoiler)
KANTO!
.

Might have missed this but is the whole following thing optional? Is the Pokemon on top of your list the Pokemon that follows you?

Is it confirmed that that is Battle Frontier?

Damn, looks like they're really putting their effort into this one!

I hope for an extension of the storyline, namely have
Giovanni come back and kick the leftover Rocket's asses, then yell at Silver for his methods, like a good father should!

This is tickling my inner childhood geek very deeply. Been a while since I played Pokemon, but Silver was an incredible game, among the best RPGs I've played. Cannot wait for this.

Noooooooo!

I was actually contemplating skipping these considering there isn't an incentive to get them for Pokedex-filling purposes like FireRed and LeafGreen were. But Game Freak know what kind of superfluous stuff to add that scratches away a Pokefan's resolve and cause them to cave in to buy their next rehash.

Seriously, you can have ANY Pokemon follow you? I'd love to stomp all round town with an Aggron right behind me everywhere. That would be beyone fuck-awesome.

After playing through Gold, I told myself I was done with Pokemon. "I can't bring my captured monsters into the next game? Fuck it then. I'll never catch another one of the little bastards again."

And then I saw this. I'll probably buy it :|

This isn't really a big nugget of info but I was told that if you have a shiny Pokemon, the sprite of that Pokemon when it follows you will also be shiny. Small detail but I think it's cool.

New stuff, like battle theme, Arceus following you, etc.

NOOOOOOOOOO! Why are you doing this to me Nintendo?! Why are you making me excited for another Pokemon remake, you know I can't resist buying this!

I wonder if they'll have "young" Dialgas, Palkias and Giratinas? Not a new pre-evolved version, simply a different sprite that changes when they get older? Or maybe they'll look slightly different? Oh the tension!

*Preorders (in his head)*

I remember being pretty bummed when Ruby and Sapphire came out and they couldn't connect with the GB/GBC games. And then the disappointment that came with the lack of a post-Hoenn campaign in Kanto and Johto.

Oh wow. Can't wait for some direct feed gameplay vids. There's nothing I want more right now than to hear the remixed music in the game.

Also, anyone know if the time machine will work with RSE/FRLG? Hopefully, Nintendo didn't remove it. It shouldn't be THAT hard, right? And the [first 50] TM's have remained unchanged since RSE.

They did it for Galaxy?

Wikipedia said:
Super Mario Galaxy (スーパーマリオギャラクシー Sūpā Mario Gyarakushī?) is a 3D platform game developed by Nintendo EAD Tokyo and published by Nintendo for the Wii. It was released in Japan on November 1, 2007, the United States on November 12, 2007, Canada on November 14, 2007, Europe on November 16, 2007, Australasia on November 27, 2007 and South Korea on September 4, 2008.

That's about as simultaneous as you can expect from Nintendo.

Well, Diamond/Pearl came out in JP in Sept and the next April in NA, so I feel pretty certain that that will be the case with HG/SS.

Yeah, Nintendo loves spring season for Pokemon. Annoys me quite a bit, but I guess they would just rather dominate the marketplace then rather than duke it out in fall/winter.

Wow, Pikachu-Pichu moveset is eye-opening!

Volt Tackle
Helping Hand
Swagger
Pain Split (!?!?)

Well Pikachu colored Pichu is looks different in the over world so I guess thats to be assumed.

And I noticed that NE Pichu has a completely different sprite compared to the reg Pichu. You used NE Pichu as a example of the whole breeding thing you were talking about. If this breeding differences thing is true then are all the differences different sprites like that?

I'm really impressed at how well Nintendo is keeping the music this time. Remember in FRLG the remixes were in a different what, tone or key? Just listen to the main wild Pokemon theme for reference.

Here, I think all of the songs so far, about 5 I think, seem to be perfectly intact modernizations of the music.

FRLG remixes were not that good honestly. Different key or tone, it was just bad. I agree these in Gold and Silver Remakes are perfect

They were very trumpet happy, I think. The music for the final fight with the rival in FRLG was horrendous.

I guess it's just the way I'd perceived the original. Seemed to be epic yet also very minimalist. The GBA ver. was too bombastic and had the crappy trumpet sound that they seemed to love enough to stick in almost every piece they made.

I love the original too, but if I guess I'm more fond of the GBA version because I grew up with an SNES, not the NES.

Something I've been meaning to ask for a long time: why did NoA go with Red & Blue instead of Red & Green in the original release? I understand the code is actually from the Japanese Blue, but I don't see any point for the colour switching.

EDIT: I certainly can't wait to see what they do with Red's battle theme for these remakes... maybe something like this?
