Especially considering that Pokemon has been pretty focused on gen 1 since X/Y, with less original Pokemon and more alternate versions of Gen 1 Pokemon. Not to mention Pokemon Go only having the first 150 for the longest time.

You can't blame people for feeling kinda weird about seeing a familiar story directly remade but with key characters replaced in the same roles for seemingly arbitrary reasons.

Oh you mean The Legend of Raikou? Yeah that was three episodes! But it was more of a side story with nothing much to do with the original plot minus the characters.

It did have Typhlosion though so that's a huge plus.

There are some stuff in gen IV i like (like blue shellos) but if i recognize gen IV exists i'm also acknowledging the horrible cross evos are real and i can't do that

them doing an alt history story of the beginning removing Brock and misty is pretty much their way of starting over completely new with a new gen of fans. Having Pokemon past gen 1 just further drives the point home that they don't want it to be a nostalgia trip.

a healthy contingent of genwunners hold new designs up against this imaginary standard of excellence, a standard that only (the monsters the person making the argument grew up with) meet

it's amazing how, if someone grew up with gen 2 and stopped at Emerald, then these are Pokemon

but this guy ain't

because ALL designs beyond (the gen that I, the unquestionable arbiter of quality, last had fond memories of)... are just trash!, and since that's just my opinion, you can't point out how silly of a generalization that is, or how it's just steeped in a refusal to admit the influence of nostalgia.

I actually edited my post right after making it, to try to remove the implication that I was calling you out specifically, instead of just airing my grievances with what I consider unabashed 'genwunners'. Actually had a snippet in there where I noted that I'm not specifically talking about you, but I guess I removed that too :x

Tangrowth is way more visually interesting than Tangela and most of the Gen IV evos are good designs, people just get mad about them "messing with their childhood" and use the excuse that they're poorly designed.

i don't really get whats so complicated about nidoking and feraligator as well. could have used mewtwo and one of the dogs instead, but they're legendary, can't really escape overdesigned legendaries in any gen, any game
