Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

Does the sound still sound... gameboy-ish?

Oh, and is that Geovoni (team rocket guy) in the game?

Yup, unlocks in HG/SS when you get a Wi-Fi Celebi.

Actually those battle backgrounds HAVE to be placeholders, they are the worst-most generic of the entire series.
Well, they are pretty much the same as DPPtHGSS/RSFRLGE's backgrounds, except on a 3D plane, so... I dunno.

That's some pretty sexy little bits of animation. Can't wait to see how some of my favorites animate.

Be nice if they could slap together some SNES-era lookin' battle backgrounds, though.

Apparently I can't have an opinion on something though.

Late to the party, but I'm not too fond of the female protagonists design, particularly her clothing. :x

You don't like the cut-offs with the klonoa ears? :D

Also, it's really about the 3 Beasts for me. Those animations are ugly, I hope Pikachu's animation isn't like the Emerald one >_>; Zoroark's looks fine though.

Then don't buy Black and White(Which you'll cave in and buy them anyway) and stick with DPPHGSS.
You always look for a chance to make a remark at me. Get a life.

So has Nintendo specifically mentioned that the games are for the DS and not the 3DS? I haven't followed too much of the 'news', just wondering.

I don't think people would mind some artwork for the backgrounds. they still look dull and boring

Oh I would love some artsy backgrounds ala Studio Ghibli! (Ni no Kuni looks badass)

Also, I'm sure the game will probably change over time, even though the launch is probably in about 3 1/2 months from now. I remember the sprites for Weavile & Munchlax from the beta screens of DP, I liked them better to be honest.

He means the battle ones

Which is true, they are very...standard.
I know what he meant...:

...which is why I said they (the backgrounds) were the same, so I dunno what he meant by the worst.

i was actually refering to small but likeable details, like grass..

hg07_pokemondiamondpearl_vs.jpg

i know there arent that kind of details in every fight, but still, for some reason they look like placeholders to me, they cant be that simplistic at this point.

Besides, the battle in the first scan looks much better

Also, something that i think hasnt been remarked, i LOVE the fact that the text now reads in transparent boxes for full sprite appreciation.

I'd... get rid of that.

Oh, I get you. But then again, we have only 6 different battle scenes, all of which appear to be in generic locales. So it would be pretty much a 'wait and see' type of thing.

The guy who cleaned up the city music from the last Pokemon Sunday footage cleaned up the city music from the new one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRj2zuSbQBA
(old one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyrJvZyegM0)

It's higher quality and you get to hear a little more of the music. Apparently, he'll do the battle music tomorrow.

Also, I'm somewhat concerned that the Pokemon front sprites aren't zoomed in 100%. If that's true, then they will look kind of distorted during battle.

I just realized something after looking at the video way too closely.

Each Pokemon is composed of many small sprites (i.e. legs, body, head, fluff) which move, rotate, and animate on their own, kind of like Flash animations. For instance, look at Raikou's back in the High Quality video.

I wonder how Bulbapedia's going to tackle this one...

The sprites aren't really animated, like, each sprite hand drawn. Each Pokemon is composed of many small sprites (i.e. legs, body, head, fluff) which move, rotate, and animate on their own, kind of like Flash animations. For instance, look at Raikou's back in the High Quality video.

I can see it now:
Composite: Frame 1
Head: Frame 1| Frame 2
Body: Frame 1| Frame 2
Left Arm: Frame 1| Frame 2
Right Arm: Frame 1| Frame 2
Left Leg: Frame 1| Frame 2
Right Leg: Frame 1| Frame 2
Tail: Frame 1| Frame 2

For some reason this makes me like it more.

Smugleaf even shows a snake fang when attacking and I love the nod.
They did a good job with his animation. It's full of personality.

WTF? how the hell was this design accepted? her hair defies all gravity! :lol

It just looks completely ridiculous :lol
It doesn't look that weird

Ponytails sticking up from the backs of hats get a bit more support than one would think

In a series where magical creatures can let you travel through time, and a 10 year old kid can tame the creator of the universe this is the reality defying thing you choose to harp on :lol

It's a game about catching magical monsters and making them fight each other. Big hair is the least important thing going on.

Really? I noticed it straight away, in a horribly compressed youtube video no less. It was incredibly obvious.

Oh shit.

I get more hyped for this game every single god damn day. I might actually import it, even though I'll end up regretting it once the english version comes out :lol

I honestly don't see the problem with the shorts. Oh noes, her pockets are showing! Big deal.

Now the hair...

The spiky pockets look dumb to most people.
The extra two... things of hair at the top are dumb too.

I tend to play current Pokemon titles with battle animations turned off anyway, so I don't mind how this stuff is looking. I wonder if they'll still bounce in battle even if they're not animating.

I've really gone off battle animations now. Its soooo much faster without them.

That's not a ponytail... that's the whole damn pony.

That didn't even cross my mind. Her design just got even more ridiculous. I think I'm getting a headache from trying to understand the physics behind it.

you would not believe the hair in this country

I swear I pointed this out earlier in the thread. Each also part seems to have its own distortion/animation effect so it wont look like those pinned-together cut-outs from elementary school.

Everyone's hating on battle animations made me curious, so I shut them off in my Soul Silver. This is so much faster, I love it. I thought that i wouldn't but I do.
