Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

That's actually pretty cool, but why is May crying?

She's not crying, but yeah. I still haven't been able to find that out. Then again I barely watched AG.

Ah OK. But didn't Ash too? :lol

Don't know, stopped watching during the Johto run. I think it was him giving his charizard away that was the last straw for me. Back then I was into the TCG and Charizard was the shiz at my school, so my logic back then was that if Ash is giving his away then he is a dumb motherfucker and so is this show.

I think this was also during the Frieza saga of DBZ. Goku and Frieza flexing for 10 episodes straight. Good times.

d some I really really dislike (DP rap, Orange Islands, and Johto Journeys themes come to mind.)

Oh come on, how can you not like Johto Journeys theme :o?
Unless you're talking about japanese one, which is average. But international one was sooo awesome. I remember when the first JJ episode aired and we could see all the new Pokemon animated for the first time ever. Along with their actual names, because so far we only knew them from some japanese Gold rom someone got hold on from somewhere:lol

Ash loses all the time in Leagues. Eventually, you just get used to it. Plus he already had his emo break down at the Indigo Plateau.
Ash is used to losing by now. It's basically his thing.
The Sinnoh series is totally going to end with Ash beating Paul and then losing to someone from the Black and White region.

I just didn't really care for it. The stupid "do do do do do do!"s kinda grinded on me.

My favorite Japanese opening is Ready Go, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cugNEXMdiHI followed by the one for Battle Frontier. Haven't really liked the DP ones too much.

I thought the US openings were all alright... until the new company took over. My favorite is the OP for Johto League Champions and Master Quest. Johto was the best saga for openings for me, but it also was the worst saga in terms of content... I watched a fair bit of DP when the games came out and from what I've seen + read spoilers for, it's much better than Johto/Hoenn. I just hate how Misty hasn't even made a cameo, I always thought it would be fitting in away if she was the Hoenn Champion in the games, or eventually took Wallace's position. Would be interesting if some of the more iconic characters in the game were fleshed out, even simple things like Jasmine being in Sinnoh was great to see when playing DP. Hope for more stuff like that in BW.

I loved the first Johto opening because the first time I saw it all I was thinking was "Oh God what Pokemon is that it looks so awesome oh man what's that one?"
That was in the good old days where when you got the new Pokemon game you didn't actually know who the new Pokemon were.

Yeah, I really like DP a lot more than I thought I would. I don't know if I'd call it better than the others since I haven't finished my epic Pokemon rewatch journey, but it's a lot better than people give it credit for.

I watched a bit of the Misty cameo in Advanced and it was OK. I'm hoping that with
Dawn now having a Togekiss
, they might bring Misty back, but I dunno. They already brought May back and that was handled well enough. And don't forget Gary's showed up a couple times in DP, although he hasn't really done much. :lol

All this talk about themes got me to watching the have Pokerap on youtube, and I to wonder why the johto and honen versions are so bad. This isn't even nostalgia talking. They're quite awful to listen to. They barely even try to rhyme the names in the Johto version, and the Honen version is performed by a guy I want to punch in the face cause his voice is so annoying. Also, poor Mew had to wait till Honen to finally be acknowledged in a Pokerap.

The Sinnoh version in that vid is apparently a fan project, so I wont judge it, except to say I still like it more than Johto.

Thing is, Ash is quite more competent than he gets credit for. He never really get out and out dominated unless the story demands it. Also, 12 years later, and I still think his Kanto loss was some bullshit. The writers couldn't have him just lose to Richie. They had to just nerf him to high hell to make up for the fact that Richie's team was pathetic. Really?

In DP Ash is a really competent trainer. I mean, you have to turn off your concept of Pokemon levels to make it work at all, but once you do that and accept the anime's idiosyncrasies compared to the games, it's actually fun to watch. You get to the point you can tell when Pokemon can only take one or two more hits.

Ash's battle with Paul in Pedal to the Mettle/Evolving Strategies was really fun to watch and you really didn't know who'd win until about halfway through. Even then, Ash losing wasn't because Ash was necessarily weaker, but because Paul was much better prepared to handle Ash's specific Pokemon.

tl;dr: Anime and Ash are progressing nicely. Battles are soooo much more fun to watch in DP, I've realized.

The "do do do do do do" was the best part!

They've actually lessened the 'filler' in the Pokemon anime these past few I feel.

Seems to get from gym to gym/contest (if you don't count those filler) a lot quicker than say the Johto series which they made go on forever waiting for the next game.

I don't count filler to be:

Any gym/league
Any contest/festival
Any Pokemon evolving episode
Any Pokemon captured episode
Any old character returning episode
Any current character/Pokemon leaving episode
Any 'story' from the game episode

Probably some other stuff, basically anything that has significant impact or causes a permanent change.

Sadly the the show is still of course no-where near as good as it could be, but gotta remember who its 'mainly' aimed at.

I'd agree with that and also add the Team Rocket-focused eps. While they don't usually have a "permanent" affect they're still a notch above filler imo.

And yeah, rewatching Johto Champions right now is really kinda slow after having just marathoned Galactic Battles...

Gary has fallen quite a bit :lol, and I was hoping they'd bring Misty back because of
Togekiss
as well, but the season is almost over... I suppose the other characters always show up before the new league anyway.

And Ash is so fierce in DP, part of why I like it as well. The whole season, his team and how he conducts himself actually doesn't make him look like a novice anymore. Even the popped collar kind of adds to his character. :lol Writers have been much better, I like that they're actually using the game material to add to the show. We've seen every game character from DPP in the show now, and
Buck
is going to show up now to make it complete. The beginning/end of each saga tends to be my favorite of each season.

Seriously, Ash vs Gary at the Johto League is one of my most fav things in the series.

I was geeking out the whole time. My younger self had dreamed of that match, and they didn't disappoint during it (for once).

It was so awesome, I just only wish they didn't ruin it straight after. >_> I say this every Pokemon anime discussion but dammit should have been Ash beats Gary to win the League, he goes off somewhere else and we follow a new trainer. Imagine the epic when the new guy would get to meet an Ash we haven't seen for ages (and has who-knows-what now) later on.

I guess I just love Pokemon Gold/Silver too much. :P

Ash returning to square-one every friggin series drives me so nuts! :lol

Orange Islands championship was amazing too, I'm gonna marathon that whole series soon. Some of the best episodes ever all in one season. Even though I missed Brock. :(

The leagues are always so fun to watch, best part of the show for me. I always liked the thought of them introducing a new trainer, but I guess Ash has become too iconic for them to replace him or Team Rocket at this point. It would be a risky move to replace him anyway in case the new lead didn't catch on. I'd love if they did another series starring a different character instead, and then they could even cross it over at some points. It's not as though the show isn't popular enough to pull off two series at once... although probably not a good move financially.:lol

Pokemon Chronicles was basically that.

Yeah, the Raikou Special is pretty much like the non-Ash stuff I imagined.

We got glimpses of the possible cross-over aspects too when one of the 3 main guys from that special way down the road ended up versing Ash at the Johto League preliminaries thing. I thought that was a really nice throwback to fans which I enjoyed. Do more of that!

And go see your friggin' Pidgeot you jerk. >_>

Didn't Ash get in touch with butterfree again?

No?

Damn neglectful bastard.

Some great little side stories involving other characters from the Pokemon universe/anime and what they might do.... when Ash isn't around. :lol

To be fair on the Butterfree thing, it went off randomly to have sex so who knows where it could be. HE KNOWS WHERE PIDGEOT IS AND PROMISED TO COME BACK AND NEVER DID! >_> Have to just hope he went and saw it on some 'non-episode' day lol.

Bayleaf pretty much couldn't live without Ash and he just said "Later!" and left it.

I'm surprised it didn't kill itself or something. ;(

Must of realised living with Prof. Oak is cool too.

Compilation of previously-Japan-only Pokemon specials which focus on characters other than Ash. It's not really it's own show, more of a collection.

There's a Bayleaf at the end of The Greatest Everyday.

:lol Butterfree is off enjoying the family life. Why would Ash interrupt that?

As for Pidgeot, Ash probably didn't want to hurt its self-esteem by having it meet the superior Swellow and Staraptor.

I love my bird Pokemon, but nothing they did/will do can top that awesomeness! Still get a chill when he evolves. Pallet Party Panic is one of my fav ever episodes, I loved that it was the original Spearow Ash threw a rock at from the first episode. :lol

Stop posting smugleaf evos that will never come to pass.

Also, the first one makes smugleaf look more like an otter than wotter.
