Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

People with multiple DS's need not worry about such things. :P

Well I refuse to buy a new DS since my lite is still well-functioning :3

I wonder what legendary would be today?

They should base it off Chinese Mythos or Native American schtick.

Can't we just say "Gen IV"? :lol

I wanted to make it sound flashy. :P And emphasize the fact they didn't change it for any of the games.

Man am I glad fucking link cables don't exist anymore.

True dat. Though there was something homey about them...

The sprites look really, really flat. Nothing I can't get used to but I don't like it.

Other than that, OH MY GOD A TRUCK
(fuck the one in RSE)
DID YOU SEE HOW HUGE THAT THING IS

And the cave looks really weird. Those sparkly electric things, I mean. They should at least make more than one sprite for the sparks!

I'd figure it's going to be like RBY/GSC where you can only bring Pokemon compatible with the old gen to the trade room.

Yep.

But fuck logic, I'm going to place a sticker on Zoroark's ball saying "Not a 5th gen Pokemon", trade it to Diamond, and freak everyone in the game so much they'll get glitched! :lol

Am I remembering wrong, or could you, by putting the infrared ports together on Game Boys, trade that way? For some reason I remember the frustration of trying to do that. It might have been for battling though.

That was way harder to pull off than using cables, and knowing how fucking impossible it was to use the cables, trying to use the infrared ports would be maddening.

I'm guessing the city is just some fancy Paper Mario-alike wraparound background effect, considering the mad faked perspective on the road leading into the heart of the city. Also that one sprite way to the left looks almost flattened like a Paper Mario sprite. :O

While it would be a neat effect to see in a Pokémon game, it's no proof that the tile-based movement is gone.

My only hope is that these shots indicate that GameFreak is slowly inching their way towards a fully 3D game in gen VI on the 3DS.

What kind of 3D are we talking about here?

How'd you do that?

Choose whichever option pleases you most:

1) Magic
2) Stole an early copy and took two screenshots
3) GIMP, a bunch of layers, and heavy use of the skew, scale, and clone tools.

Wow so many boring dragon/dinosaur variants. And so many "very samey" pokemon that was the 151 original. Like a new seahorse, Bee and Jellyfish variants.

And agree on whoever said they look flat. If there weren't so fucking many of them, I'd even suspect some of them to be mockups :b

Destruction of sprites, probably. :/
Assuming 3DS is as powerful as, say, Gamecube, then...

At least we won't have to put up with ugly-ass DS 3D! Those buildings 'n' shit in the BW images are fucking horrendous. Thank god they're sticking with sprites for now. (Though obviously I'd prefer them to stick with sprites forever... just make them more animated, damnit!)

If this is sarcasm, I cant tell. This is directed at the image full of pokemon on the previous pages right? all of the new ones on there are fake.

I'm not gonna lie, I think the DS games look beautiful :lol But I'm not much of a graphics whore.

Here's a thing.

That took way too long but it was worth it because it's awesome.
Is there some trick to looking at these? Because I'm seeing two very similar screenshots.

Edit: Am I in the second grade or something? :lol

Cross your eyes so one eye is looking at one image, the other at another, and then you should see a third image... focus on that one. Basically.

I agree, the DS games look great, especially HGSS (what we've seen of Black and White isn't doing it for me). They're charming, simple, and effective. B&W is trying to do too much, with a system that can't pull it off without making all of it's faults obvious. The windows tearing on the buildings, the sprites scaling and losing their detail, and horrible, horrible DS 3D and filtering. All I would have needed is a better framerate and higher resolution (so I don't notice the sprites scaling poorly while moving, or Ho-Oh's encounter eyes being different sizes because there aren't enough pixels). So I'm waiting for a 3DS Gen, and hoping they put it back to a static perspective.

I think I may have some kind of ocular deficiency.

It's possible, not everyone can do it. It does take time to be able to master it.

I don't think the DS games look beautiful, but I never thought for a moment they looked bad.

Honestly, my opinion on graphics is very rare. I still enjoy looking at PlayStation one games, N64 games, etc. There's something about "crappy" 3D that I enjoy. I'd never expect other people to feel that way, though.

Phew I really thought Nintendo dropped the ball there :lol

Only in Pokemon fans do you find such persistence.

So I'm either immune to magic or have bad eyes.

Immune to magic. The other option sounds like a weakness.

So maybe the rotating camera is because they've added battle animations and this way they only have to make the necessary sprites for facing 1 direction.

...my god.

...well done.

Here's a jitter gif for those of you whose eyes don't work like awesome people eyes.

Was that hard to make? 'Cause I'd feel really guilty prompting you to go and make that thing, then tell you that I'm not tremendously impressed. =\
