Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

I concede. I've fallen for the pig starter it's just so cute. It's why I originally choose Charmander in Red (because I couldn't have Pikachu :lol). Hopefully it doesn't turn into an anthropomorphic pig.

he will probably stay 4 legged if anything he could have the ability to stand up right but i doubt it this is the first fire starter that cant evolve hands.

The more I think about it the more I love the Otter . . .

I just have this feeling that the Otter is gonna be the coolest one when they are fully evolved.
I mean, i just can't see them making ANOTHER water typed Otter Pokemon with out learning from the mistakes of the last.

this should be a starter -

someone email it to nintendo

I feel the same way... I'm seriously considering opting for the Water Starter for the first time! =O

No amount of gym placement assholery will be worse than RBY

Squirtle: Yay, rock gym! Water should be pretty even and I caught a cool Onix for electric gym!

Bulbasaur: *pimpwalks through the first four gyms*

Charmander: Oh god make the pain stop for the love of god please

Arrrgh, painful memories being brought back to the surface. :(

Thank Game Freak for Butterfree learning Confusion. God damn life saver.

Gen1 > Gen3 > Gen2 (other than totodile, all the others are rubbish) > dog shit > gen4

grovyle and blaziken were great and swampert was a great poke on the competitive side, gen3 was great
Gen IV had the best starters though....

Oh wow, I just realized that those yellow things on the grass one's collar are likely gonna become wings when it evolves and it seems like its gonna lose it's limbs (or those legs at least). 0_o

Grass/ Flying or Grass/ Dragon?

Well it IS a snake.

Grass/Flying would be painful. :lol
Jumpluff is awesome! What are you smoking?

OK, so Tropius kind of sucks, I get that. Jumpluff is still awesome.

I'm leaning toward the fire pig and I'm naturally biased against the fire starter. This was mostly thanks to Charizard being uber-popular when Venusaur was clearly superior, which led me to choose Mudkip (I reset and chose Torchic after realising I hated Mudkips line) and Torterra (traded for the other two). In HGSS, I chose Totodile.

The grass starter looks like Treecko 2: Electric Boogaloo and the water starter is a straight up Buizel clone without the charm (and I hate Buizel).

if nuts said gao all the time, he would be one of the greatest. but he would evolve into primo, and ruin its design.

Grass/Dragon is never going to happen on a starter. Never. How many Dragon types (or pseudo-dragons) are there that aren't:

a) Inconvenient to catch,
b) Not available until really late-game/post-game, or
c) Evolve from something crap

No way GameFreak gives out a Dragon type (or future Dragon type) at the outset.

I'm glad to see a lack of knee-jerk hate like I've been seeing everywhere else. I can't honestly fathom a good reason why these suck.

Go back a page or two and I'm sure you'll find someone declaring these are the worst starters ever. Barking mad obviously, but they are there.

That's the opposite of what I see on GS System Wars. It's just unanimous "lol even the fakes were better". Even worse, zero explanation for why they think they suck. It's laughable, really.

None of these will be objectively bad pokemon, you'll see. I just think that we've seen the Grass and Water starters before. Unless they do something drastic with typing or movesets, they'll struggle to stand out, methinks.

Made even worse when they sort of have to be red green and blue it sort of limits the base form of starters.

That's the problem with the typing. Having Grass, Water, Fire while being the only real logical grouping still makes for very similar types of pokemon. I mean they can emphasize certain stats over others but secondary typing is where things really get fleshed out with the starters. And hopefully new moves (not just move tutor moves).

I just don't like their designs very much. Maybe they'll grow on me, but then again, I still don't like the majority of the 2nd/4th gen designs after all these years.

I'm more of a Kanto-Hoenn kinda guy, Pokemon wise.

Might probably be the third form though, and starters aren't exactly easy to come by either.

They really need to introduce the place where some starters originate.

It is getting a bit ridiculous. Here are all these super rare pokemon that don't exist in the wild yet there are random scrub trainers that have them.

Not after the beginning of the game, they're not. However they are literally given to you at the start.

Not to mention: starters and their evos are very easy to raise (i.e. they level quickly) for obvious reasons. Dragons are usually a pain to try to raise (to keep them 'special') and I think GameFreak would rather keep it that way.

No Dragons.

When I was a kid, I always assumed that they were abundant in the wild, but that they were migratory and hard to catch. You and the random scrub trainers basically get your starters from captive populations the various professors and breeders have access to.

I also remember hearing rumours of one tile of grass on Victory Road in Red/Blue where you could catch wild Bulbasaur (this one was so prevalent, I still to this day refer to the grass on Victory Road as Bulbasaur's Garden), a secret switch somewhere on the ocean between Pallet and Cinnabar that'll lead to an area of ocean where you can fish for wild Squirtle and a room in the Cinnabar mansion where you had a 1/1000 chance of finding a wild Charmander.

It's not that they don't exist in the wild, it's that they probably live in extremely secluded places, far away places, etc.

Looking at both the trainers mekes me think that if this game officially has a rival hes going to look awesome.
Or he'll look totally stupid because the game's quota of AWESOME has already been filled.

I want the rival to be a threat again. Back in the days of RBY, hearing Blue's theme just when you least expected (usually at the end of a long dungeon) was always an OH SHI- kind of moment.

Seriously. Because of this I now always make sure my guys are fully healed before heading to the exit of a dungeon. Blue scarred me for life.

Hmmm.. could it be possible that the Clown Otter could turn into some badass Dark/Water Badass Joker? I mean it could happen. Its either that or something really realy weird.

wtf is with you people and blaziken

easily one of the most abhorrent pokemon designs

:lol I love Blaziken! I remember watching a battle Ash had against some dude with a blaziken. It was so epic and blaziken became a beast in my mind from that point on way before I got the actual game.

That first gym was so painful in yellow. :(

At least I caught a pidgeotto in Viridian forest during my first run through. That was really nice.
What? If I remember you could get a mankey pretty early in Yellow and could get it to learn a fighting move in a few levels.

It was basically a way of having difficulty levels. Bulbasaur = Easy, Squirtle = Normal, Charmander = Hard.
