Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

Those new screens with razor leaf and fire blast are the clearest sign yet that this game is 3DS enhanced. You can *feel* the 3D just looking at the way the leaves are flying and the transparency on the fireball.

Yeah the fact that they don't age is the main reason why it put me later off.

See back when I started watching it, I was pretty much the same age as Ash, and therefore I could relate to it. Ash struggled on his way to the Pokemon league and had to deal with young crushes, whilst I had to struggle through the burdens of school.
As I grew older I overcame those struggles, but new ones developed, but in the series, the struggles remained the same.
They should have delved into Ash's experience through adolescence and then inevitably into a bad ass trainer. But instead he is the same old trainer back when the show started.

It's sad really :(

Where are you getting that impression from? O_o

Black & White was announced as a DS game before the official titles were even announced! It's going to stay that way, and considering it's going to get a release later on this year in Japan, a couple of months before the 3DS is thought to come out, it'd be kind of silly to give it anything extra with 3DS capabilities at this point. Just wait for Pokemon Gray or
3rd gen remakes
or 6th gen.

Well actually, the grass attack looks pretty much identical to the current animation for Leaf Storm.

In my mind and make-believe Pokemon world, Ash becomes a gym leader :D

It will have some kind of 3DS support, that's what I thought when I saw the first pictures. I mean, this one:
Poke_BW3.jpg
was screaming "WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE THE DEPTH IN 3D!"

It is in 3D. Just not gimicky worthless Avatar 3D. :P

I don't get the final frame. Misty isn't the bride of green haired guy? Who is he? I haven't seen the anime in a looooong time.

Green-haired guy is Drew, one of May's contest rivals. Odd I knew that but not Casey. Hrm.

Oh man, those starters look HIDEOUS. Worst ones yet by far, and that's really saying something.

Unfortunatly agree, the only one I like is the grass starter but I have a feeling his evolutions are going to look arse, have to wait and see I guess.

Why exactly do you play pokemon though? One could get the impression that you're a moron from those two statements together like that. (And I don't like the designs that much either.)

I get the impression from literally every screenshot I have seen of the game, in battle or out.

Here are some questions:

What would be a good reason to drastically altering the perfectly popular and successful PokeMon viewpoint?

Why would they make a city with such a remarkable 'right out to the vanishing point' style depth?

What better way to launch a new console than to have it magically upgrade the pokemon game that 5 million kids are already playing (by launch), without reducing the potential audience for your latest pokemon game to early adopters only?

Hahahaha... With that attitude, I would of quit the games back in Gen III.... Seriously, smh... :-/

Since we're on the topic of Pokemon, I always wondered, who the fuck is Ash's dad? I think he was mentioned in one of the movies, but that was it. Do we know anything about him?

I'm sorry to say, but you are completely wrong.

There aren't going to be 3DS 'enhancements' for these titles.

The only time I remember him ever being mentioned in the anime is the first two episodes. Ash's mom says he's just like his father, who also left on a pokemon journey. Popular fan speculation is that his dad is Giovanni.

Yeah, I heard that theory too, but I also remember Ash's dad giving Ash a phone call or something in one of the movies. I could be wrong though. I might have mixed it up with some other shit.

I personally prefer 2D sprites until they can afford to some crazy cel-shaded 3D battles.

Anyone else digging the new battle interface? Looks like it takes up the whole screen finally. But what's the deal with those health bars? They look suspect...

Let's see what Wikipedia (or Bulbapedia, as it were) says on the issue:

His father was never introduced. The anime suggests that his father was once a Pokémon Trainer that began his journey in Pallet Town, but it is unclear whether he is still living. An interview with the series' storyboarder confirmed Ash's father is a Trainer on his own journey. According to the same storyboarder, Ash's father may or may not be introduced in the series, depending on its necessity to Ash's further maturity and development as a Trainer.
So yeah. I guess he technically exists somewhere, but the writers haven't found a good reason to do anything with him yet.

Also, I'd like to commend Ash on having a fairly badass team currently. Three fully evolved pokes at the same time? Finally stepping his game up, I see.

You only have to look at their eyes to see that they suck. The grass one is OK, I guess, but the fact that the other two lack any detail in their eyes whatsoever is inidicative of just how unappealing their designs are. In constrast, look at Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Their character designs are simple, yet their eyes are detailed enough to draw you in, and make them likeable. It gives them character.

The new fire and water starters just strike me as something a 10 year-old might draw.

XD seriously?

Also, Squirtle and Charmander have crap eyes too.

Is it just me, or does anyone else want to see Gamefreak/TPC/Nintendo put the starters' final forms on the box art like in the Kanto games rather than seeing legendaries on the covers?

Think about it: the water-clown-otter-polar bear-snowman thing has a white motif, while the fire pig/boar has some black coloring. Their final forms will likely retain some of that.

Imagine my disappoint when I discovered the battles scenes STILL don't look as good as Pokemon Stadium. Guess I'll pass yet again.

While I do agree, imagine how fucking slow battles would be with weather conditions and all that other stuff.

I still want them to remake how battles play out on screen though. I'm getting pretty tired of static sprites on a screen.

Just look at those kicks and the way he's got dem pant legs half in, half out. Dude is just straight fresh, mang.

That would be great, legendaries do nothing for me anyway.

Pokemon Stadium was incredibly ugly and did not look very good at all.

I guess it's nice when you really want your Pokemon to do a canned ten second animation and then a totally independent effect going on in front of them. I think if I'm going to have that, I might as well go with art rather than ugly models.

To each his own, I suppose.

Yes! What I *really* want is for the Legendaries to be a surprise. Like, make them super secret. So that in a world without internet spoilers, many kids out there might not even know they're there.

I wish there was a way to somehow despoilerise the whole game. I just know I'm going to end up seeing half of the new Pokemon before I even play the games :( I won't be able to resist once its out in Japan.

Any chance of the release being closer to the Japanese one this time?

Actually, I am really hoping that Pokémon Sunday will show a little clip of an ingame battle either this or next week. I wouldn't mind too much if there are still static sprites, but I do want to see whatever gradual change they've made to the battle system.

I don't know, localizations almost always take 7-8 months with GF.

You know that hardcore battlers play the game with just text right?

I still think the game world would look so much better if they pulled a style similar to Ys:Oath in Felghana except more colorful. It doesnt look terrible as it is now but I think it could be so much better.

I dont have an issue with the battle look though. They just need to speed it up some. Right now, its designed for an idiot who needs to be told everything in order for them to realize whats going on. Its raining. Youre still poisoned. That Snorlax is still eating leftovers.
Stop it!!!

The scans look nice! The fire pig is cool, I'm betting his final evolution will have some bad ass bandanna looking thing, like he has going on now with the black top head and ears

Fuuuuuuck, I just saw the new starters. I personally think they're pretty sweet. Either going grass or fire. But the water one is an otter and it's evolutions could prove very promising.....

I hope they're somehow involved in the new movie. I want english names soon so I know what to call them.

Also, does anyone remember what's normally expected for revealing Pokemon? Are we going to need to wait for CoroCoro for a blowout, or will they be featured in Famitsu? I know we won't know them all until the game is released, but...

Meh, theres no telling.

For the 4th gen iirc the first stage of the starters were revealed only a month before release. :/

Sounds about right.

Thats what I was thinking when looking at the scans.

I'm hoping for a TP like thing with a higher res/ better looking 3D version to go along with 3DS, announced at E3. Seems likely to happen seeing as it happened to TP . . . Nintendo doesn't like to waste chances to sell more systems.

I don't think they did with the previous games...

I'm going through the news archives at Bulbapedia from 2005-2006, and it went something like:
-New Pokes revealed (in that case, Lucario first, then Weavile/Mime Jr./Bonsly, etc.)
-Game names revealed
-Various odd details(Wi-Fi chat, 3D overworld, Professor's name)
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104824(also revealed details about PBR)
-Boxart and Release date revealed

The last few occurred around the summer of 2006. Along the way, other pokes were revealed through screenshots (Chatot(?), Electivire), and some attacks (Draco Meteor).

So far, we've had:
-Game names
-5 revealed pokes, 2 of which are definitely in the next movie
-Various screenshots of a more developed 3D perspective overworld.

So, maybe expect some more news over the summer, considering they're coming this year?
