Police negotiate with drunk open carry white man who asked police to shoot him. No ch

As a black man whose interacted with the police in ways-a-many, the interaction starting from 9:33+ blows my mind. I can't help but feel I would be dead or treated like shit in the same situation.

Good on the cops for treating him like a human being with no hostility.

This event should not stir outrage. These cops did their job and they did it damn well. Racism is without a doubt a problem in America, but I don't think this should be something to get worked up about. This is a prime example of how a cop should handle a tough situation. I understand the double standard, but I think it's counterproductive to shit on cops when they do their job right.

Im thinking of that video I just saw recently of a brother with a knife being gunned down like a rabid animal within 60 seconds of the cops pulling up in their cars. There was a thread about it. But hey, Im all for de-escalation and people not being shot, regardless of race.

So the people that are annoyed with race being brought up in this thread, would you be willing to bet your life that if the gunman were black and acted the same exact way, the outcome would be the same?

That would require a huge assumption on the officers mindset. Burying your head in the sand and ignoring institutionalized racism is ugly, but let's not automatically assume every cop is a black hating trigger happy sadist, yeah?

So black people aren't treated differently by cops?

It's not a stereotype it's fact, law enforcement agencies have racist polices and procedures and if a cop follows and enforces those polices, then yes they are racists.

Can you cite this please?

I think that this post undermines how individuals can see things given history, national current events, anecdotal evidence and disproportionate statistics results. It's not bad for one to fear for the worst here when the little things are so in your face.

Completely different scenarios.

Completely different scenarios.

Are you telling me the knife wielder was more of an imminent threat than the man with the firearm? I know it was a completely different scenario. The cops engaging the gun toting dude tried to engage him in a calm, reasonable way, the cops who rolled up on the knife wielding guy came to within 20 feet of him ,screamed at him, then executed him in less than a minute.

if you're talking about the guy with the knife who immediately became aggressive and said "shoot me" to the cops as he gestured towards them, then yes, that is more threatening than a guy standing around with a rifle over his shoulder

did you read the thread title

You're so right dude. You ever seen Valkyrie with Tom Cruise? Not all Nazis hated Jewish people.

WOW! Just, wow..

How you could even make that comparison is just mind-blowing. Police aren't rounding up every single non-white adult/child/baby and hauling them off to a concentration camps where they will be starved, tortured, gassed then tossed into mass unmarked graves. Get a grip, man.

Not praising them for talking down a dude brandishing a loaded weapon seems shitty. Sure they're doing their job, but I mean how often in someone's line of work are lives hanging in the balance like that. Shit's a lot of pressure. All the racial issues we've had recently aside, I'd still pat these dudes on the back for keeping the situation in check.

Im not sure how the situation you're describing is significantly more dangerous than an inebriated, belligerent man with a firearm telling the cops to shoot him. Do you think a young, belligerent knife wielding black is inherently more threatening than an old, belligerent, gun wielding white?
The only difference is that events unfolded faster with the knife wielding guy because of the severity of the police response, which again, involved no attempt whatsoever at de-escalation.

yes, and I watched the video. He said the cops should shoot him. He didn't walk towards the officers screaming. He didn't gesture towards them with his weapon. The gun never even left his shoulder.

so yeah, I'd say the guy who got shot in the other video was more of an immediate threat to the officers than this guy.

A drunk dude walking around with a weapon on his back while cussing at the police, yeah who would consider that aggressive behaviour???

Edit: I apologize for using the wrong word.

here, watch that video again and compare the two situations yourself.

someone coming towards you with a knife screaming aggressively and not responding to the officers is definitely more of an immediate threat to nearby officers than a drunk dude standing around with a gun on his shoulder yelling at cops. I'm not sure how you can argue this.

do you know what brandishing means?

Ive seen the video. The cops escalate the confrontation from the moment of their arrival, which is why the knife wielder goes at them so suddenly. They pull up, guns drawn, scream, then shoot.
The man is clearly mentally ill, but its clear that the cops who arrived at that scene were going to go in hard and fast and not make any attempt to try and diffuse the situation with a calmer approach.
I see with the gun toting guy, the officers are generally sticking beside their cars and trying not to agitate the guy.

What I saw was two officers pull up and tell him to drop his weapon multiple times. He ignores them and continues walking towards them screaming at them to shoot, but apparently you know exactly what was going on in that guys head. He only got aggressive and gestured towards them with a knife because hey, they started it. Not his fault he got shot

These two situations were completely different, and not because of the color of the person's skin.

But it never is with you is it, Fred? You've always got a handy explanation for why the police didn't do anything wrong and why "this case has nothing to do with racism!"

Yep. the two situations will always be completely different.

those dehumanizing stares aint no joke B, every black man has one, we was born with it.

Slavery-end-of.jpg

"bad bad negro man. Your penis is way too large for my sub-conscience! Plus my light skinned wife and daughters all keep staring at your loins. Go, go pick cotton for me whilst I rape all of your negro females. Try and get this hate out of my system. GO!"

Glad I didn't have to type that all out.

Some people just don't understand how deadly a knife can be. A moments hesitation on a knife welder could get you killed. Here is video of cops in south america trying to defuse a situation with a knife welder and he ended up killing one officer and wounding many.

Video of reactionary training by police.

Some food for thought.

in other words, "I can't explain why you're wrong, but you're wrong"

police are Nazis now?

Do you guys know what analogies are?

Ever stop to think that cops would stop killing unarmed black people if they were praised for every time they talked down a rifle wielding white person?

Hate racism? Stop talking about it.

C'mon B769. They busted this guy for................
...*can you hear that drum roll?* ................... jaywalking.
Jaywalking.
Jay. fucking. walking.
Is that really something we want 50 heavily armed police to actively enforce? They talked him down from.......*drum roll*......... jaywalking. And you see this as a racial issue? We must have grown up with completely different skin color, because I don't see how this has anything to do with race.

what a stupid picture. George Zimmerman was not even a cop yet people still use that incident to cry racism against the police

the police are the ones that didn't even bother to question zimmerman with a fuck to give, the ones who didn't even want to identify the body or find out who's kid was laying in the morgue, and the ones who happily botched an investigation

its a part of the same issue

the cops there allowed that situation to proceed the way that it did

This thread is so fucked up. Cops do their jobs correctly and people proceed to assume they're racist murderers and would've reacted differently if he were black.

Why are people so unable to just accept a good thing and not inject some bullshit into the situation?

"You did a bad job and killed a man? Fuck you"

"You did a good job and handled the situation well? WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE OTHERWISE FUCKER?! Fuck you"

We ask cops to do better but when they do we don't even care.

because cops tend to 'not do their jobs correctly' at a significantly higher rate when its a minority
