Two Long Island police officers could face disciplinary actions after they were seen on video taking a selfie together in front of a burning house.

The officers were called to the New York suburb of Uniondale because of a house fire Thursday, according to the Nassau County Police Department. A video first published by NBC New York shows the two unnamed officers taking a picture while a fire engulfed the home behind them.

Police department officials did not take the video lightly.

“The contents of this video are very concerning to the department and are currently under investigation. If these officers are found to be in violation of any department rules and regulations, they will be appropriately disciplined,” Acting Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter said in a statement.

The content of the video was met with criticism from Nassau County legislator Kevan Abrahams (D), who told NBC New York that it shows “the lowest level of professionalism.”

At least one neighbor, however, believes otherwise.

Neighbor Emma Zaccarini told NBC New York that she does not believe the officers should be punished, because they helped her get out of her home. The 86-year-old woman who uses a wheelchair lives next door to the house that caught fire.

Probably the first cop article on GAF that doesn't cause my blood to boil.

They helped an 86-year-old woman out of her home and had no protective gear and, you know, aren't firemen. What else were they supposed to do? (Yes, I know: not take a selfie in front of a burning building.)

The NYPD is always the smelliest turd in the pile of shit that is law enforcement.
This happened in Uniondale... I wonder why they would do such a thing in this particular community.

As long as their job was done who cares

Still pretty silly though and they'll probs face consequences

Ironic how taking selfies gets you a bigger punishment than cold-blooded murder

Yeah, maybe an ass chewing from the supervisor for being inappropriate. They did their job, not like they can extinguish that.

If they already did everything they could, then I don't have a problem with this. They aren't firefighters, grabbing a water hose from a neighbor probably isn't very effective.

Probably the owners of the house?

How would you feel if your emergency assistance was busting out their phones for the fun of it as everything you owned went up in flames?

Exactly. They can be pieces of shit when they're not on the clock.

Context matters. What if the caption to their selfie is "we just saved a woman from this house" and served as a record of what they both did? It may be inadvisable to do this, but at the same time the picture may not have been taken with the intent of posting it with "Hey Bob, you did remember to turn off the stove, didn't you? lol"

So they saved someone from it... And what else do you want the police to do about it? Sure it's "unprofessional" but I don't have a problem with it. At least they didn't shoot her.

Yea, reprimand them to some extent as it was unprofessional. Not much else to say. Good on them for saving a life though.

Read up, they had already saved the owner and without gear and training it would be idiotic to to take on the fire

I got arrested at a DUI checkpoint for driving on a suspended license, and I had a gang of empty bottles in my trunk that I meant to throw out, and all the officers took the empty bottles out and lined them all on top of my car from the trunk to the roof to the hood, and they all took turns making various poses and taking pictures. LOL

They saved the fucking owner and they're pieces of shit for taking a harmless picture? The fuck is wrong with you? They're not equipped to extinguish that fire incase you didn't notice.

Yea, I'm kind of not caring on this one. It was really victimless, nothing they really could have done. Is it childish? Sure. But from the article, it seems they did their job first. At that point, they are just waiting for the fire department anyway.

I hope emergency personnel takes a selfie picture of their house on fire if it ever happens.

Who said anything about them putting out the fire? Let them make light of someone losing their home on their on fucking time.

Honestly I'm usually not on the positive side when it comes to cop threads, but "cops save an older woman's life and then take a pic of the scene" certainly comes out as a net positive scenario to me.

If my home was burning down and I saw two cops having fun at my life being in ruins, I'd be pretty fucking mad.

Making light? What the fuck are you talking about. They just risked their lives going in there to save someone, they were taking a selfie to remember the badass shit they just did together, not "Lol this persons home is fucked".

Luckily that's not what's happening here.

Something tragic is happening to someone and it's ok to smile for the camera in front of it?

That's not ok for a kid walking by on the street and it damn sure isn't ok for a professional public servant.

Next time someone you love is in the hostpital I'll just stop by and take a selfie next to their bed. It's ok because there's nothing I can do to help them.

Seems like a good days work to me. I mean, I can see why their boss may go "Please never do that again" because of optics and all that but they did well all things considered imo.

You have some particular insight about this story? Where does it say they were taking a selfie to celebrate their heroics?
They didn't save the people in the house by the way, they helped a next door neighbor.
Read the fucking story.

Read the fucking story.

The neighbor that was going to assuredly die of smoke inhalation without their help. And you certainly don't have the insight to say they were making light of the owner.

If that someone was going to die but you saved them and now they're recovering in the hospital, take as many selfies as you want. Hell, I never take selfies and I'll take some with you.

So you pulled that out of your ass, correct? Where does it say she would die from smoke inhalation?
You're just making up a bunch of shit to support your flimsy argument.
You don't need to protect cops, they get plenty of protection as it is.

It's also okay to admit that you were mistaken.

I didn't pull anything out of my ass, buddy. The neighbor or the owner or whatever word you want to use was going to die. She was 86 in a wheelchair and the smoke coming from the house would have killed her.

Their intent is exactly what we're talking about.

Your excuse of them trying to take a picture to remember a badass thing they did is still making light of the situation. No matter what excuse your try to cook up, taking a selfie when someone's home is burning down is completely classless and insulting to the owners of the home.

Of course I can't find the picture, but on christmas eve a few years back my dad got caught by the on-scene reporter doing a thumbs up in front of a familys engulfed house.

He's a fire fighter, and they had just gotten the fire relatively under control. Funny to see out of context though.

Y'all are really missing the point. The issue isn't them not putting out the fire and not being fireman, it is disrespectful. That is someone's home that is burning away and they're like "lol lets take a selfie"

No, it's straight out of your fucking ass. Just like their intent with the picture, you don't know shit about if she was going to die or if they were celebrating a heroic moment.
That is all speculation on your part as it is not mentioned in the story.

They didn't save the home owner like you originally claimed.

It's inappropriate timing for a picture but that's really about it. They did all they can do to help, and context of the picture isn't important either. Nothing to get really get worked up over.

Edit: responding to above post; dude just read the fucking article.

This, it's weird that it even has to be said, even if you ultimately think it's not a big deal because they saved a life.

Lol. You don't know anything about fires if you think she was going to be ok. And I dislike cops as much as anyone but you're just full of shit if you think these guys who did their jobs went and took a picture right after to be purposefully insulting.

So straight out of your ass like I said.
Are you going to go to bat for the dude from the fire department who was taking a selfie too?
You're wrong here, just like you were wrong about them saving the home owner,

Is there a handwringing competition you're practising for? This is, at worst, insensitive, but not something to be this mad about.

I can see the issue. Selfies are always taken in celebration, whether an event or a mood. That is the context they operate in.
