I had a conservative acquaintance (not really a friend, just someone who was around when I'd drink with some Vanderbilt friends) who harassed me angrily on twitter after I tweeted that the Romney attack on Obama's admittedly awkward phrase in the "if you've got a business..." speech. I told him I didn't disagree with what Obama was saying, and linked him to the entire speech. The guy gets all huffy puffy, saying "I'm shocked you support this horrible liberal president." I then linked him to Romney's speech the next day or two after where they basically said the exact same fucking thing.

"Dude but no, Obama's speech was retarded. Romney's made perfect sense."

Such an inspiring story to those like me who work 20 hours a week during full classload semesters and 40 hours a week on the off. And that's with parents who are in the top 15% of the country financially.

Your own fault for not having your father invest thousands of dollars (in 1950's money) into stocks for you when growing up.

FYI, if you adjust for inflation based upon the absolutely lowest dollar amount that could have been (where "a few thousand" only means $3000) and by the single latest year of Mitt Romney's life before going to college (1965) that is the current day equivalent of $20509.

So shame on your parents for not giving you $1100 for your birthday every year to invest in the stock market.

Any study on who really watches these ads? It's strange that "attack ads" are all the media rage while TV advertisement viewership is declining due to newer viewing methods. Are "attack ads" more effective with people who are less technologically savvy, like people who watch "regular" TV and listen to talk radio?

The elderly are the most likely to be watching television over New media, the least likely to be thinking critically, and vote in far higher proportions than everyone else. This is why attack ads are effective and expensive

I'd believe it. Nearly everyone I've ever talked to on the subject (admittedly all at or around my age) gets immediately turned off by an attack ad on TV and, if anything, starts to feel negatively toward the guy doing the attacking if the ad is seen enough.

I can't fucking stand them but I also realize that, like any other form of advertising, they wouldn't exist if someone somewhere hadn't done extensive research and confirmed that they do in fact work.

Pfft. Lieberals and their "research"

Wow, it's like somebody bragging about entering a cheat code. Seriously, I feel a little bit sad for her. Their financial life is going to get more and more attention in the next few months and they will have no idea how out of touch they are.

Exactly. I funded my college by working up to 50 hours a week carrying a full load, and even I wouldnt classify that as struggling by any means.

Probably already mentioned, but even GOP is calling Crazy Eyes Bachmann batshit fucking insane.

I'm guessing this is because what she is saying is specifically detrimental to national security. There's no other reason they'd call her out now after every other stupid thing she's said.

Not sure if anyone saw this:

http://www.wthr.com/story/19067257/obama-punching-bag-causes-stir-at-indiana-fair
A punching bag depicting President Barack Obama as a boxer with a black eye has been removed from the Republican Party tent at an Indiana fair after some fairgoers complained.

Delaware County GOP spokesman Tom Bennington tells The Star Press he thinks the bag was placed outside the tent by party leaders. It was displayed at various times Monday through Wednesday at the fair in Muncie, about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

He says the bag was "meant in fun" to illustrate that Republicans hope to defeat Obama in November. But says he found it "mildly offensive" because of how it portrayed the military's commander in chief. It was removed after fair visitors - including at least one Republican - voiced concerns.

Morgan Freeman donates $1 million to Obama
The Oscar-winning actor gave the money to Priorities USA Action, a so-called super-PAC independent of the official campaign, and praised Obama for his achievements in office since winning the White House race four years ago.

"President Obama has done a remarkable job in historically difficult circumstances," Freeman said, according to his spokesman Stan Rosenfeld.

"He ended combat operations in Iraq, put in place sensible reforms of Wall Street, saved the auto industry and protected the health care of every American," he continued.

"He has led our nation to be more tolerant and placed impressive, accomplished women on the Supreme Court," added Freeman, who won an Oscar for best supporting actor in 2005 for his role in "Million Dollar Baby."

Bill Burton, the head of Priorities USA Action and former Obama White House deputy press secretary, thanked Freeman for his "generosity" in a tweet linking to stories about the donation.

Lol Ann Romney and "You people" are trending, and being called a gaffe. Between this and Obama's 'gaffe' I think that word has completely and utterly lost all meaning.

It's funny, because my parents paid for my college (with the help of some scholarships). And plenty of non-rich students get college paid for. But somehow, just the fact that his parents paid by giving him stock makes it sound really weird. I dunno.

I dont think his dad's stock was expressly for college tuition, more like they decided to sell it while in college to make ends meet. He got it as birthday gifts growing up it seems. My non-wealthy brother and sister in law do it for their kids, too.

I see lots of "attack ads" in front of every youtube video I watch these days...

Did they also have "thousands" of stocks at $96 a pop in the early 1960s?

There are two things at play here, both of them resting squarely on Romney's own shoulders - that he is COMPLETELY tone deaf to the plight of the unemployed, or even the middle class as a concept. Secondly, that he is relying on the red-meat eating middle and working class as his electoral base and pandering to them really, really poorly.

Is it OK if Romney is rich? Yes, if he just embraces and admits it. It's the lying and dissembling and gaffe after gaffe after gaffe, combined with absolute refusal to disclose the nature and source of his wealth. He makes John Kerry look like a coalminer. Ultimately his attempts to hide or deflect his "sins" are far more damaging than his actual "sins"

How long did it take Noah to build the Ark?!!? Oh yeah...
The bible is not explicit about that, but you can sort of infer certain things from the text, theologians peg that number somewhere between 50 and 120 years (Jewish tradition says 120).

Also, that shit had the strictest regulation in history.
Everything from material through size to structure was set in (holy) stone.
Not to mention that the entire process is just one giant no-bid crony contract, I'm sure we could've done it cheaper and get giants wombats in had we opened it up for competition.

it's hard to refute bullshit. like, I can't refute what you jut wrote cuz it's just bullshit. I mean, I guess by calling it bullshit, which is what it is, I just refuted it. So, I guess I did refute it. Is that how it works?
