Just saw this strange ad during GPS with a European immigrant saying that because he's seen the effects of socialism he's voting Republican. Since neither candidate supports socialism, why is he claiming this is his reason for voting Republican? I've said it before, but if they think that Barack Obama is a socialist, then he's a really shitty socialist.

I agree, I'm glad I'm not seeing it. But it just feels like it's still there, but I have no proof or data! So I guess we'll see...

It's definitely an issue for many people, but I think in most cases those people are simply going to hold their noses and vote for Romney because their dislike for Obama is far greater. Either that or they'll sit it out.

Obama gains in RAND again.

Mamba proven right so far, eh PD?

It's now 49.1-45.4. Almost +4 for Obama.

Obama gains about 2 points in 2 days. Looking more and more like Obama is pulling almost 50% in RAND and Romney pulling in 45%. That's basically what it was pre-debate.

That RAND poll is kind of weird IMO. They ask the same group of 3500 people every week on a rolling schedule what % chance they have of voting for either candidate. So it's measuring enthusiasm just as much as support. Is it even credible?

lol:

Afterward, Mr. Ryan stopped with his wife and children at a nearby soup kitchen. The family put on aprons and washed several large pans, though they did not appear to need washing, according to a pool reporter. There also was no one to serve at the soup kitchen, as breakfast had ended.

In WA, there's this billboard letter board with a crudely drawn Uncle Sam on it along I5 in Chehalis. It always has some batshit Tea Party message on it, last night the southbound side said "VOTE FOR THÈ AMERICAN"

Some people...

Why is the credibility only questioned when obama is gaining? Hmmm....

I was reared in the Assemblies of God church. They characterize the LDS church as a cult that preaches false doctrines. My parents, brother, and many friends typify the religious right. And until the general election, they opposed Romney specifically because of his religious affiliation. But since he secured the nomination, they've reversed their opinions harder than even Romney could. And they are genuinely elated after Romney won the debate. When I inquire how they could support a Mormon, they justify it as being the lesser of two evils. And then they usually note how he's a strong family man. They remark that, despite teaching false doctrines, Mormons have strong family values. Whatever harm his religion has caused him is probably already reflected in the polls. The religious right...they want Obama out of the WH. Nothing is going to inhibit them.

I think video footage could be released of Mitt Romney murdering someone and he would still win most of the south because they dislike Obama so much.

Another CEO suggests jobs may be at stake if Obama wins re-election

This part was particularly interesting:
Remember, in the world of business, companies are consolidators or they get consolidated; so far ASG has been a consolidator, completing over 60 acquisitions in our 26 year history. When we buy a company, we eliminate about 60 percent of the salaries of the employees of that company. If we lose our independence and get consolidated, the same thing would happen to ASG's employees.

I suppose at least this one's honest in that he's, in fact, not a job creator, but instead the complete opposite.

And every conservative Christian would pull the lever for him, too. They are crazed with antipathy for Obama. They've even taken a liking to the Clintons, whom they used to call the modern Ahab and Jezebel, out of spite. Mormonism be damned, nothing is stopping them from voting against Obama.

It's fucked up that Romney gets to say he is for America and Obama is not. This is the sitting president for fucks sakes. If the roles were reversed the media would tear Obama to shreds for a comment like that.

I bet he had to memorize the dish washing steps just like he had to memorize foreign policy bullet points before the debate.

Just when I said that liberals weren't resorting to religious attacks, a liberal I'm friends with on Facebook posts this:

I don't think the whole "the other side does it, too!" thing works here. I'm all for wanting Mitt to lose, but I don't think things should be done this way, whether the things in said religion are goofy or not.

If you ignore the religious description it's a fair assault on hypocrisy, not religion itself.

A point could definitely be made that they're ignoring Mitt's religious beliefs (that they previously were upset about) while still screaming that Obama is a Kenyan Muslim, but attacking Mormonism directly isn't necessary in making that point.

Call me crazy, but I don't think discussing a person's actual religion should be completely off limits. Particularly when that religion openly discriminated against black people as recently as 1978 as official church doctrine.

Frankly, if the post just said "by the way the LDS hates black people basically as part of its gospel" then that would be one thing. It's unnecessary to make fun of them for their religion being silly given that most of America worships a stick we nailed God's illegitimate son to. Religion is often pretty silly if you decontextualize it.

religion is fair game when a candidate bases his political views and "plan" for America on his religion. So... religion is fair game for every president so far. Although there is no reason to go as deep as that point did... as pigeon mentioned above

I'm not anti-Obama if that's what you're implying. I've just never seen anything like this before and I'd caution other Obama supporters from putting any faith in that when other tracking polls are showing a much closer race

Well tbh as an agnostic I think all that silly stuff in all religions should be made fun of, particularly since they are still used as an excuse to hinder the social and scientific progress of humanity.

Personally, I save myself the stress by not paying attention to national daily tracking polls.

It is all a bunch of hooey and it should not be part of the campaign. But that said, one can at least appreciate hypocrisy angle.

Edit: Damn it, Stinkles just pointed that out.

Using religion as a crutch to avoid progress is silly, but making fun of someone's religion when trying to make that argument is going to win over no one. Being rude about something that is so deeply entwined in someone's life will win absolutely no arguments.

Obama is a pro-gay, pro-choice, black Democrat with a foreign name.

He is the living, breathing embodiment of ALL that they hate.

If I told everyone that I believed in a magic dolphin that blessed me with rainbows shot out of its holy blowhole, that would be justifiably open to ridicule. But if I told you all that that was my religion suddenly that would be off limits? Nuh uh. I don't buy it.

Don't worry, in America you have the right to be as much of a jerkwad as you feel appropriate.

This is really not relevant to this thread.

I'm saying that attacking people's faith like that is going to win NO ONE over. If you want to win over people to being more open to progress that may conflict with what they perceive as religious beliefs, ridiculing them will immediately discredit anything you say to them. Be open and be respectful when engaging others, because no progress will be made if all you're doing is spouting off some bullshit that only fans of Bill Maher will enjoy. When 4 out of every 5 people in the US identify as being religious and you want to make some leeway in terms of political progress, you'll get absolutely nowhere if you're talking down to 80% of the population.

Has the poll been used before 2012, and is it credible? People have asked before but I've never heard an answer

I think they've been around polling public opinion and doing statistics for a while on various subjects, but this is their first foray into political opinion tracking.

Romney wants to be the leader of America and the free world. We have a right to criticize and belittle his stupid religion.

It's going to be very interesting when Billy Graham dies. Will his son invite Obama to the funeral? There's no doubt every living president will be there, and will probably get to speak; Hillary will certainly be invited too. But given his son's unprecedented crusade against Obama I'm not sure how things will play out. I wouldn't be surprised if its purposefully held on a difficult day for Obama to attend, and that he's given a late invite - ie a trap so that I'd Obama can't attend it'll be used as a political football

On the whole I don't think Mormonism is that much more insane than the other brands of Christianity, it only seems that way because traditional Christianity has made its insanity the norm in our society.

Also Harry Reid is a Mormon and he's been great for us this election cycle.
