Trump's strategy should be to drive up Hillary's unfavorable numbers. This will be a weird way of putting it but he doesn't need to 'win' or be 'better'. He has to just paint her as worse.

I think that's pretty tough when she's a known commodity and he has the worst favorables of anyone left in the election.

After all the material he's provided this primary, I think that's going to be a very tough sell. Even if that is a successful line of attack, I think it will still be easier for Hillary to fearmonger minorities into voting against Trump than it will for Trump to fearmonger them into staying home.

I agree it won't work, but it's his only shot. I don't think he'll be able to drive down minority turnout after all he's said, but assuming GOP turnout is always reliably high, what he has to do is get some white people (who the Dems DO need to ultimately beat the Repubs) to stay home. Hillary is unpopular among independents, so there's an opportunity there for a smart politician to play up every negative association people tend to have with her.

He's not going to beat her on policy or experience. He has to make this about who do you trust in the White House. That's part of the whole "Tell it like it is". People for some reason trust him. Tha's something most people agree about with him, he doesn't hide his feelings and what you see is what you get.

About one half of one half of the electorate trusts him. Everybody else think he's either on a troll mission from Bill Clinton or a racist sexist asshole. All of the white working class voters turning out for him already turned over the GOP when the Democrat's started caring about non-white people for the most part.

I'll give you three guesses who is even more unpopular with independents.

Then she counters with a 3AM-esque plea. That was her most powerful ad last cycle, and for good reason. I can take care of you. He can't.

Nah, I don't buy the 1/2 of a 1/2.

Republicans hate him because they think he'll make them lose to Hillary. When it comes down to voting time, most will check the box next to the R.

Of course he's more unpopular, but he's already done far better than anybody ever assumed he would. Plus, the GOP machine knows how weak he is and is going to be kicking into overdrive to smear Hillary with everything imaginable to compensate.

Oh sure. That doesn't mean they trust him. But, there isn't some groundswell of secret Trump voters that is going to win him the election. At best, he might win a a slightly larger percentage of the white vote. Plus, like I said, there's a wealth of things to nail Trump on.

“Mr Trump – when are you going to release your tax returns?”

“Mr Trump – when are you going to publish a REAL succession plan for your corporations, one that doesn’t involve your financially-dependent children?”

“Mr. Trump- when are you going to sell your corporate interests to avoid massive conflict of interest?”

“Mr. Trump – if you won’t sell, when are you going to put all of your business assets into a blind trust like Bill Frist did years ago?”

“Mr. Trump – you are older than Bill Clinton. Why do you want to hold on to your business interests if you are going to be President? After one term, you will be practically dead. You have next to no chance of lasting two terms. If you’re serious about becoming President, why not out now?”

“Mr. Trump- how are the bone spurs in your foot?”

“Mr. Trump- You’re real estate company was sued by the federal government for racial discrimination for refusing to rent apartments to black and Puerto Ricans. Do you think that is the proper roll of the federal government to insure non discrimination in housing. What changes would you make to government policy in that regard?”

“Mr. Trump- Please name some of the hundreds of your close friends that died on 9/11. Did you attend any of their funerals?”

“Mr. Trump- You said none of your properties were damaged in 9/11. Will you return the $150,000 in federal grant money you took to help small business effected by the terrorist attack?”

“Mr. Trump- You’ve been claiming your campaign is self funded yet you’ve received millions of dollars in campaign contributions which you’ve used to fund your campaign. Will you return that money or at least stop claiming that your campaign is self funded?”

“Mr. Trump- You have staked out a very tough position on illegal immigration. Why have you not personally verified the legal status of every construction worker on your company’s building projects?”

“Mr. Trump- How will you combat the hyperinflation that your trade and immigration policies will cause?”

“Mr. Trump- Why are your condo owners in Panama trying to fire you?”

“Mr. Trump- Why are your business partners in Canada and Turkey trying to cut you loose?”

“Mr. Trump- Why are the business interests in Scotland and Ireland that you claim are doing so well losing money?”

That's not even getting into the racist and sexist bs that the GOP can't really call him on.

But BENGHAZI!!!

I'm looking forward to Priorities USA unleashing a $100 million blitzkrieg on Trump as soon as he mathematically wraps up the nomination. David Brock might finally prove his worth. He's been aided enormously by the Republican Party practically rolling over for him; I'm not sure he'll hold up nearly as well when the entire Democratic Party, from Obama all the way down, runs against him.

People are greatly underestimating this. Just because Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz are shitty politicians who can't stop Trump doesn't mean Trump is some unstoppable monster.

Trump is a team from a midmajor conference that's finally going to get their NCAA game and they've drawn Duke after they just had a slightly tough game against a better than expected opponent.

His counter to that should be Benghazi and her support of the Iraq war. Say the last time she had a 3AM deal, she let Americans die.

Trump isn't going to win, guys. The antics he gets away with republicans won't work with regular voters. I think a lot of Trump support is in love with the idea of Trump insulting Hillary to her face during a debate; it's a very similar sentiment to the initial support Christie had in 2011 when it looked like he might run for president against Obama. The problem is that Trump is going to go too far and disgust a lot of women and minorities.

The other problem: presidential debate moderators aren't going to be playing with him like primary moderators are. He's going to be challenged for details and without 4-11 other people on stage to distract he's going to look bad.

What if Trump boycotts the debate unless he gets John Dickerson to moderate?

You know in the back of her mind, Hillary has to be thinking at a Trump vs Hillary debate or whatever

"You know, America. I'm qualified. I'm smart. I know politics inside and out. I've dealt with foreign dignitaries around the world. I've watched the Presidency first hand through two administrations. I've done real work to better this country and I am a real leader.

My opponent is a reality TV star trust fund baby who liked to talk as if he has big balls (by the way, mine are way bigger).

If America is so stupid as to elect Donald Trump over myself, then go right ahead. I'm rich, I'll be fine, personally. He'll wreck lots of lives in the process, but not mine. So if you want to let Idiocracy become reality, go right ahead.

But if you aren't ready to become the laughingstock of the world, you know what to do."

Then leave and never do any other campaigning. IT JUST HAS TO BE IN THE BACK OF HER HEAD!!!

edit: Rubio getting 0 delegates in Texas would be the nail in the coffin.

Ask Trey Gowdy how that worked out for him. Benghazi is bullshit to the vast majority of Americans and Iraq is something that most people want to forget. Also, the guy who says we should steal Iran's oil can't exactly make the same argument Rand Paul can about the Iraq War.

Again, just because the GOP are idiots doesn't mean the Democrat's are.

He also won't be able to duck debates like a coward.

The Trump freakout is a sight to behold.

"Look at how far he got in the GOP primary with everyone doubting him!"

Yeah, okay. He managed to tap into the most vile parts of the US electorate in a heavily divided field of basically shit candidates, who seemed much more interested in attacking each other.

I mean, setting aside polling and policy positions, at a basic level, I don't think people would vote for him because it would frankly make the US look like the stupidest country on the planet.

Ducking debates in the General will be a bad look.

Would be simplicity to portray it as Donald being afraid to debate strong women. First Megyn Kelly now Killary.

Exactly. I am not stunned 30-45% of Republican's are borderline white supremacists. Not after the past thirty years. Trump just finally said the quiet parts loud.

These were the best Republicans they had. I remember last time when people were begging Jeb and Christie to jump into the race.

It's especially strange to see a bunch of people weighing in that nobody predicted he would get this far when a very sizeable number of people predicted exactly that.

But no one cares about Benghazi outside of the fringe right. He's not speaking to Suburban Swing Voter in Ohio.

The point is to keep it in people's minds, just like with the whole email issue. It obviously won't be a dealbreaker but making it part of the picture. Just like with Cruz and the Carson thing. Nobody really cares about Carson but it reinforces that negative viewpoint of Cruz being a snake.

The only thing I'm really interested in at this popint is who picks up the slack if and when this guy collapses. If he makes it to the general, I'm gonna relax and watch the show, but I'm interested in whether its Cruz or Rubio that picks up the votes if people suddenly realize they're voting for a completely unelectable person.

Any effect that it could've had on voters minds was destroyed through a kangaroo court. No one cares. She's still going to be up there saying "I will keep you safe. I will protect the nuke codes." He can scream at her about Benghazi all he wants, but that just makes him look more inept.

Probably a good thing in the end. Keeps them from being complacent.

Ugh I *guess*.

Have any independents been polled about how they feel on Trump's super hardline stance against terrorists such as doing worse than waterboarding or the kill terrorists' families?

Considering how he has the worst favorables of any single person still left in this race, my guess is not high!

Also, Jeb! learned too late how easy it is to get under Trump's skin and make him go even more off-the-rails: talk about his business failings, his bankruptcies.

Fiorina did it to an extent - but it was a blunted attack since she was also a business failure.

Trust-fund baby who has underperformed the market. Not even a good businessman, how can he run a country.

You accuse him of filing bankruptcy, and he goes an even odder orange color. It's interesting. It's an easy line of attack just to get him riled up. Hillary needs to do that shit in a debate. Just Bern him reallllll slow
