Polygon: The Marvel Games team knows you want a new Marvel vs. Capcom

Man 2.5D games look ugly to me lol. Especially new MK and injustice games. I actually prefer the old digitally putting in actors like MK1,2,3. Those played smoother and looked better IMO. I also though compared to MvC2 or SFvs Marvel, MvC3 looked really bad graphics wise. Looked bland and generic imo.
But we've also gotten some great-looking 3D models as of late as well. And from an animation standpoint, Capcom's on top of their game (if Street Fighter V is any indication).

yeah SFV looks great. And the animations are fantastic. Unlike SFIV which I think aged badly. At the time of it's release SFIV looked great but now it looks really bad. I hope SFV can age like wine too and not milk. Cause old vs games aged like wine. They still look really great now after almost 20 years.

That's to do with the art being poor, Injustice and MK are made by the same developer.

You have the SF games that look great, then you have Guilty Gear that completely used 3D models but looks indistinguishable from sprites. So best of both worlds in that it saves developers time and also achieves that classic sprite based look.

Exactly, Capcom has it down to a science to where SFV will probably age better than SFIV did visually. Hopefully they take those skills to MvC4 if it happens.

They need to steal The Guilty Gear Xrd tech.

For real man. If arc system can pull it off I am sure capcom can too. Cause GGxrd is the most beautiful looking FG out in the market right now. No competition. I wonder if a MvC 4 game with the same fighting engine and graphics engine as GG would be like. Probably sick. But too bad it maybe too complicated for it's audience. As a MvC game bound to attract lot of casual fans that are not really into FGs.

Again, Xrd's engine is literally UE3 with some modifications. Imagine what Capcom could do if they use UE4 as a base & modify it like Arc System Works did with GGXrd.

I know right. I really hope if MvC4 ever sees the light of day Capcom looks at GG's graphics style for inspiration. Also man i sometimes wonder how sick an Arc Sys vs Capcom game would be under the GGxrd type graphics. Sick!

If I recall, the idea behind Xrd's style was to simulate the 2D games as closely as they could (hence how ASW animated the characters).

If I remember correctly UE4 has a different lighting model and some features from UE3 are absent still (e.g. it was only on update 4.12 last week that UE4 finally has Planar Reflections). I do wonder how much Arc had to tweak UE3 to get the visual style desired, and if it can be achieved 1:1 with UE4.

Then there's the arduous process of adjusting the normals to make the cel shading look right in every frame. Didn't they say it took about as long as animating a sprite? I doubt Capcom are in a position to dedicate that much resources nor have the time to emulate the Xrd look, especially with the expectation of an MvC game having LOTS of characters. How many did the original MvC3 have? It was an absurd amount IIRC.

I'd just be down for a UMvC3 PC release with a balance patch tbh. It uses the MT Framework so there should be no issues with performance.

I believe Vanilla MvC3 had 38 characters, while UMvC3 had 50. Both of these numbers are counting Jill & Shuma.

Semi-related given how huge a presence the former has in MvsC, but how likely is it that Marvel will ease up on the X-Men and (assuming Fox isn't planning on giving them back after how much they've lost with them) Fantastic Four 'ban' when it comes to merch and games sometime in the future?

I don't follow the inner-workings of Marvel all that much, but I vaguely remember hearing from a friend more in tune with this stuff that the previous head of Marvel who helped cause this spat between Marvel/Disney and Fox and was trying to push Inhumans as a replacement for the X-Men recently stepped down, or something to that effect. Would that have made a positive difference in any way?

Not likely. Marvel Entertainment is still pushing the X-Men & F4 to the back-burner. Even with the Inhumans movie delayed, it's still supposed to happen, though Kevin Feige is likely gonna make it closer to Jack Kirby's Inhumans rather than the X-Men replacement that Ike Perlmutter wanted. That said, it'll probably take Marvel Studios getting the Fantastic Four back for Marvel Entertainment to relent on their war with Fox.

And for the record, Ike Perlmutter only lost control of Marvel Studios. He still has control over Marvel Entertainment, which includes Marvel Games.

Then it would just be Marvel Super Heroes 2. And while I wouldn't be opposed to that, it'd feel like something's missing.

I would love a Marvel Super Heroes 2. It's still my favourite Marvel fighter as I don't fully get on with the VS gameplay.

Did everyone not hate the new Street Fighter?
I'm confused why anyone will think this would be any better.

Because the game was rushed out to sell so some people really hate the fact that the single content is pretty much bare-bone. Capcom confirmed that they wouldn't pull the stunt again so I could imagine that they probably handle next fighting game way better than they did with SFV.

I guess they could take their time with Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 or new Marvel fighting game development and production but I would like to see almost everyone coming back from MVC3 tho.

They don't really have to now that the Capcom Pro Tour has its main game.

It's a great update. Still don't get why they released it 9 months later MvC3 came out. If they just waited 3 months, nobody would have felt gypped at the update.

Their license was running out, they had to release it with enough time to actually sell a few copies. The vanilla version being kept in the oven a little too long caused that mess.

You're going to get Bone Claws Wolverine again and you're going to like it.
Your not going to get any version of Wolverine with the way Marvel is running things lately :P
I'm not trying to be overly cynical, but this strikes me as completely run-of-the-mill PR and not at all newsworthy.
It probably is.
Am I the only one that wants only the Marvel part of MvC? When was the last time we had a Marvel fighting game? The crossover thing is cool and all, but I want a more Marvel story instead of the non-story that usually happens in crossover games.

I do kinda think MSH's infinity gems system is worth revisiting.
Expecting single player content from Capcom after what they did with Street Fighter 5....

At this point, I don't care if it's Marvel Super Heroes 2 or Marvel vs. Capcom 4. Though while the casuals may want the former more, the competitive scene would definitely go for the latter.
I rather see Marvel Super Heroes 2.
MvC4 without the x-men/FF might as well be called Avengers vs Capcom.

I know that feeling, my friend. I even thought of how the roster would pan out given the recent restrictions.

MARVEL
  1. Leon S. Kennedy [RE6] or Chris Redfield [RE6]
    [*]Jill Valentine [RE Revelations]
  2. Albert Wesker [RE5]

Nah this would be a waste, you'd basically have 3 characters all being the "samey gun shooting" characters, Chris in UMVC was a mix between BB hood and Jill. Doesn't feel like there would be enough difference in moveset between Jill and Leon given their games.
Jill is fine as a super-powered kicking machine.

Not gonna lie, I have a personal grudge against Nova as I felt Captain Marvel could've had his spot in the previous game. :lol

Didn't imagine I would ever see someone who has a grudge against Nova...one of the dopest heroes around.

There has to be a Marvel Xbox game, which studio would make it? Halo team? Take a break to make Iron Man? I wonder if it has to be a third party making a console studio exclusive. Microsoft and Sony probably don't want their first party studios tied up to a licensed game.

There will be but it will be multiplatform.

Marvel pls.

Yeah i'll also take UMvC3 port with a patch

I never played UMvC3 so I'd be perfectly fine with this as well. In fact I've already been hoping for it.

Best of both worlds would be hiring a dev to port 3 while they take the next couple years to develop MvC4.

But the thing is, we'd probably get Black Widow as her own playable character, who would most likely play how RE5 Brainwashed Jill played in (U)MvC3. Not to mention that MvC2 Jill was unique enough on her own.

Tease you?? They said, "oh yea we know people like those games, but don't have any plans on that. Please buy our Telltale and Insomniac games tho."

It's absolutely nothing.

"we can't say anything at this time. But who knows what the future holds?"

IDK, that sounds fairly hopeful to me. Like this is totally in the works and can't talk about it, otherwise why not just be blunt with "This isn't happening right now."

The way they worded is sounds like they're open to the idea, but nothing concrete is happening at this time.

I'm leaning more towards they're in (positive) discussions about it, I seriously doubt it's in active development right now, but feel free to surprise me Capcom :)

I wouldn't say no to a current gen port of UMVC3 at 1080p, 60fps and no screen tearing on all stages.

Yes please, PC/Steam too!

Wow, I guess I'm not as optimistic about this as I thought when I see some of the responses in this thread. Well, here's to hoping that you're right.

The modern Revelations version of Jill still uses her acrobatic kicks from RE5, so I doubt Capcom would revert back to the MvC2 version of Jill, which was practically an original character. I could see Capcom getting rid of her brainwashed stance moves and giving her a few more weapons, but I think her Charging S.T.A.R.S./zombie summoning days are long behind her.

They could at least give Jill her MvC2 rocket launcher back.

At the very least he didn't say no, hopefully it's a matter of when not if. It's probably best to keep expectations low, but I can't come back down now.

don't let us down Marvel!

Don't forget about Jem this time!

ComiCon is right around the corner and thats when MvC3 was announced.

Supposedly Marvel Studios regained the rights to Namor, recently.

Groovy! He's pretty badass.

If we're posting wish lists for characters, i really want them to bring left field characters, would love to see The Captain from Nextwave in this, and i still want Molly Hayes to be this tiny hard hitting power house kind of joke character while putting TVC Roll on the capcom side as her counterpart.
