The X-Men have been a part of the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise since the very beginning. To have them ditch the Fox characters at this point would be an absolute dick move on Marvel Entertainment's part, but wouldn't be unheard of given that it's Ike Perlmutter we're talking about.

We won't blame you if you can't make it happen, Capcom (at least those of us who know better won't), but at least try.

If there's indeed no X-Men in the base roster, then Marvel did make a dick move when discussing the characters with Capcom. I'm still hoping for the best though (at least the inclusion of Wolverine or Magneto for example)

Well, we'll know in a few days

Ironically, a dedicated assist slot would ensure that a far larger amount of characters than would normally be possible will eventually make their way into the game.

Yeah, that's a good point.

The idea itself is interesting. One of the things that made me salty back when MVC1 first came out was the inability to use Colossus and Jubilee. I kept hoping you'd be able to unlock them by beating the game, but notta. Looking at it in retrospect, the idea of non-playable assists was actually a pretty cool idea. I just wonder how it'd be accepted in todays Marvel.

MvC1 is one of my favorite games ever....

but yeah even with that I think 2v2 is a bad idea.
but capcom gonna capcom.

YEAH NEW GAME.

<capcom capcoms it up>

FUCK.

Capcom: why didn't it sell well doe?

Capcom pls

Yup, all we can do now is hope for the best.

SFV sold poorly due to it's lack of modes. It's gameplay is really good.

People will get over 2v2 if the gameplay is fun. Hopefully they launch with more modes or if not the price it accordingly.

This probably hasn't been in development for too long which means the roster ain't that big and that 2v2 makes more sense than 3v3 (at least for now since I fully expect this to be a 'service game' that will grow with occasional updates)

Well I haven't done a roster list yet so I'm gonna make one and I can copy and paste it when ever I need it. This will be my dream roster with the bold with the characters who I think have a solid chance of being in it.

Marvel
1) Spiderman
2) Venom
3) Green Goblin
3) Wolverine
4) Rogue
5) Magneto
6) Doctor Doom
7) Deadpool
8) Taskmaster
9) DareDevil
10) Iron Man
11) Captain America
12) Hulk
13) Squirrel Girl
14) Punisher
15) Hawkeye
16) Gambit
17) Sentinel
18) Cyclops
19) Phoenix
20) Apocolpse
21) Scarlet Witch
22) Nova
23) Mystique
24) Red Skull
25) Captain Marvel

Capcom
1) Ryu
2) Chun Li
3) M. Bison
4) Claire Redfeild (REmake2 ver) (Any RE main we haven't had yet with MvC2 Jill like moveset) (Hunk would also be cool with a MvC2 Jill moveset but Claire is my fav so)
5) Chris or Leon (Chris MvC3 moveset)
6) Wesker
7) Nemesis (or power type character like Tyrant)
8) Mega Man X (Classic Alt)
9) Sigma (As much as I love Wily, Sigma would be a better fit and the games need more villions)
10) Strider
11) Captain Commando
12) Morrigan
13) Regina ( Dino Crisis)
14) Samonuske
15) Gene (God hand)
16) Phoenix Wright (with real Edgeworth alt)
17) Viewtiful Joe
18) Arthur
19) Dante
20) Vergil
21) Haggar
22) Dante Masamune
23) Frank West
24) Rathalos (or Monster Hunter)
25) Amaterasu

A lot of folks talking in here probably never even played much TVC. Game is fucking phenomenal. 2v2 is legit fun. Heard the same bitchin on MVC3 when anything different was announced for roster or systems and now after 7 years all they want is more of what they are currently more familiar with again which is now Marvel 3.

Sit back, see what they got to offer, and take the game for what it is when its announced and stop demanding it be some other title. Marvel 4 will be Marvel 4 just like how Marvel 3 was its own thing and TVC was its own and CvS was its own etc and so forth.

To be fair though, I'd want the Skullgirls Ratio system to accomodate fans of both 2v2 and 3v3 team building.

No, it means more highly requested characters would make cameo appearances and be ruled out for DLC.

As long as they are using the slot as a dump for previously playable characters, I think its fine. There are a ton of characters that are kinda one-note & would make great assists spread across both the Marvel & Capcom pantheon. Not every character is going to make a fully playable character.

Yup, all we can do now is hope for the best.

The thing that I can't understand is why they are being such a dick with all these iconics characters. I mean, X-Men are getting some books next year (Gold/Blue team, Weapon X, Generation X, Cable and so on) so they keep making stories and new things for them.

I don't understand their logic that much.

I think it'd be neat if the game had either a 2v2 + assist or 3v3 mode and you could toggle between them. Let the community choose which mode gets picked up for competitive play and the other one becomes a fun side mode if nothing else. Call one mode "Modern" and the other "Legacy" or something like that.

But this wastes potentially good movesets, ruins the possibility of good assists from playable characters, ruins the possibility of stuff like happy birthdays, and will make the fans of those characters complain even more than if the character was just excluded.

So why

I can't already see the "Capcom betrayed us" posts if there's a MvC that's 2v2 and has no Wolverine.

Some have argued that they don't mind catering to existing fans, but they don't want to make new fans. Also keep in mind that if the ban ends up impacting MvC4, it was likely because the license was regained while the ban was in full swing (hence why I'm hoping for a renegotiation to occur for DLC if the worst-case scenario happens for the base roster). If Capcom manages to dodge the bullet, then they must have better negotiators than I gave them credit for.

Look, I am not saying this isn't a good point, but

Essentially you're saying I get to watch the Marvel community eat itself alive like the Smash community does and that sounds amazing.

But TvC is better than MvC3

raw

The logic is it's better to invest resources in characters that returns across the most mediums than invest resources in characters that only return on a few. Marvel gets more returns from properties that they have full rights to (movies, comics, tv shows, merch, etc) than from those they only have partial rights to. It's not just them being dicks, it's them being a business (which goes hand in hand with being dickish).

We still don't know for sure that no Xmen are in btw. That was an initial rumor that was walked back. I think there will be fewer Xmen characters but likely at least a few will return. My bets would be on Magneto and then some incarnation of wolverine (either modern X-23 Wolvie or Old Man Logan).

I went back and watched some videos of me playing Marvel 3 and was reminded how shit the day to day netcode was and it makes me sad.

SF5's netcode was pretty good. Hopefully they'll have learned something.

Technically yes, but no one wants their request to be relegated to that role in-game.

Could you imagine if Mega-Man only made it as an assist?
