Last night a friend asked me to go to his house to fix a problem with his laptop and when I arrive he was listening to a mix of One Direction, Chainsmokers and bachata while playing Call of Duty

EA really just killed the Mass Effect IP

I guess An*me games won

Let's be honest, Mass Effect and Dragon Age are basically JRPG masquerading as western RPG.

Wait "just another day" is in this playlist? It's probably the worst song in Joanne.

Thanks for this though, hopefully I'll find some bops.

Noooo JAD is such a gem, and IMO the biggest callback to her classic sound since maybe Speechless. Play it on your morning commute for maximum effectiveness.

Also, the new Miley Cyrus song is wonderful. Those summery vibes with that guitar in the chorus <3

Let's be honest, Mass Effect and Dragon Age are basically JRPG masquerading as western RPG.
JRPGs have fun combat systems and not too focus on realism. Mass Defect and Dragon Age have the typical conversation system of Western games, the combat system is too far removed from JRPGs and the actual RPG elements in Mass Defect has gone in the Elder Scrolls route of watering down the RPG systems so hard it makes it more a mediocre third person with some RPG elements. Dragon Age has it harder cause it went for a more action combat press A for awesome ignoring all the depth that Origins had. Also the waifu shit takes itself too seriously to be fun and the sex scenes are mediocre cringefest of HBO Vanilla porn with puppets.

Questions?

I'll give it a few more listens, but I'm not disagreeing with you yet! It's certainly a non-event of a song.

Also, Harry Styles' album is out, and from what I've listened by now, it sounds like he listened to a lot of Oasis, Ryan Adams, Kula Shaker and Snow Patrol. (edit: and Kings of Leon lol)

Malibu is not interesting even if it is pretty

Sounds like a leaked Katy Perry demo from back when she played guitar in cafes

Time to rank the 2017 pop leads:

1- Lana, LOVE
2- Lorde, Green Light
3- Gaga, The Cure
4- Miley, Malibu
Bubbling Under 100- Katy, Chained To The Rhythm

Well, the playlist for this week is now live, and as expected, the songs this time come from all around the world. Even though I'm sure this type of playlist may turn some of you off, since a lot of songs aren't in English, please give it a chance, and if you want to understand the lyrics, ask you fellow PopGAFfers for help.

This time around, I'd recommed using the Youtube playlist, since there's only one song missing there, as opposed to 4 on the Spotify one. In any case, the voting poll will go live tomorrow. Enjoy!

Oh Malibu is kinda great?
x10000 times better than dead pets

Lana has a new song called "God Bless America" and it's about the struggles of a Woman in America. From "I think space is more interesting" to this. Shook.

Is Miley an underrated vocalist? Her voice is pretty nice
Yes. Her fault imo. She was trying to bank on being a wild, hip hop powered mess and her emotional singles didn't show off her voice. She's definitely one of the best singers on the right songs. I can't imagine anyone not being convinced after hearing:

Maybe You're Right
Twinkle Song
Lighter
You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go

I even made a thread on this thought largely inspired by her vocals

Oh, is there someone else who likes Maybe You're Right? The vocals in the second half of that song really hit me.

I don't think she's one of the best singers, but I do think she's underrated for reasons like the ones you give. Certainly, she's much better than you can typically expect from a Disney Channel star, and I would put her in the top half, possibly top third, of the mainstream, radio-successful singers out there. I'm hoping this next album really leans into her comfort zone because I think her voice really shines when she's being musically authentic. (See her Backyard Sessions.)

I'm not sure if Miley will win the General public over but shes won me

Ranking the leads

1. Green Light
2. Malibu
3. The Cure
4. Love
5000. Chained to the Rythm

Really liked love when it came out but its not stuck with me and I can't even remember ha second single
The Cure is just a great pop song and as always gaga>
Malibu is doing it for me right now. May drop down as I've only just heard it but I'm really digging her vocals and the production
Green light is tied for my fave Lorde song with Magnets. Just makes me want to dance.
Chained is trash. Bon Apétit would top this list though

Whoever is producing HAIM tracks has them sounding like audio gold. It's like an older rock record. They have that oomph in the bass guitar

Also I already can't recall what Bon Appetit sounds like either

In any other timeline, I would have dragged Malibu but since we're in the Trump timeline with garbage like the cocksmokers and hagsey I welcome the unique sound Miley brings. Still not a fan of her constant throwing shit to the wall to see what sticks but eh

edit: nnnnnnnnnnn

i guess the promo is starting

I like you already! Give us a fave five pls

*waves* a pleasure. Love you all no matter who you're here for. :) My pop-centric top 5:

-Mariah Carey's glorious reign from "Fantasy" through "My All". There was no queen like Queen Mariah, before the Lord called that sovereign lady back to His side.
-Robyn, along with other hard-to-pronounce but excellent Northern European delights like iamamiwhoami and Tove Lo (Lady Wood was great pop: fast and to the point).
-Nina Simone, with that timeless, fierce mix of love ("Don't Explain", "I Put A Spell On You") and angry, righteous politics ("Mississippi Goddamn"). Filth Travesty/Tr*mp fans need not apply.
-Tegan and Sara, all killer no filler well-crafted pop. Didn't see that coming when they were first on the scene!
-Either Beyoncé for self-titled and Lemonade, or Solange for A Seat at the Table. Depends on whether I'm tolerant of Bey breathing into the microphone too much or not.

And finally, whichever poster was slaying me with those GIFs of Gillian Anderson as Stella Gibson from The Fall. Our generation's ice princess George Smiley. But why didn't they give us Jamie Dornan undies photos to even it out?

Outside of pop or outside of the Top 5 but still near and dear to my headphones: Massive Attack's creeping soundtrack for nights on empty streets, Gorillaz for the same, The Smashing Pumpkins for when I want to remember high school (right now, I don't), Maxwell's smooth-ass R&B for when I want to remember college (I do), Sade's ice princess greatness, Hot Chip for awkward dance parties,

And Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster, before she got too far into her own damn head. if you're going to make good pop, don't waste my time. Get in, slay me, get out.

Looks like there's some mess going around concerning the band PWR BTTM about one of the band members making advances towards minors, etc. shit like that. Some others are coming out and saying the allegations are true and bottom (kek) line is they're probably done. Which is a good thing since their new music was fucking awful anyway and nothing like their first album so bye pumpkin!

Shit. That sucks. New music wasn't good though.

Guess I'll always have "West Texas"...
