I've said it before and I'll say it again: I think you need to be able to sell a soaring ballad to be considered for that ranking, and so far ballads are Beyonce's WEAKEST area. Remarkable technical consistency

No, it's a pretty bland album, tbh. There are a few gems like Schoolin' Life and that other song Satch put me on to...which escapes me at the moment.

If you want to listen to a good Beyonce album, listen to B'Day or Dangerously In Love. Then listen to 4 and you'll see why it is so bland.

I think JHud's come close that that sort of gut-wrenching abandon, but her technique is so spotty that sometimes I wonder if it's even intentional (lol)

A part of me feels that Beyonce's never going to deliver her iconic ballad, especially given that she already thinks she's done so with "Halo" (lololol)

Bolded: Well, even Christina is consistent.

I don't know if they are her weakest area, but I do know that she has ballads and that she sings them well. I think that maybe your belief that she's an emotionally bankrupt, amoral, uneducated, and uncultured singing automaton colors how you receive her ballads. I agree that she doesn't have anything with quite the same bombastic emotional appeal as something like Didn't We Almost Have It All or Without You, except perhaps Listen, but I don't agree with your conclusion that this is disqualifying.

Change of subject for a moment. What do you think about this:

She's only made some headway in Canada, hasn't released an album in like six years, but clearly has at least a modest amount of talent:

"Give It To Me"
"Allison"
"Boom"

I'm kind of annoyed at a lot of little things, though... She doesn't really have any identity - it's all cribbing from other artists in both sound and style. There's always some weird or unfortunate production choices on these songs (stuff like "Headphones" or "Brand New Bitch" that I didn't bother linking to are genuinely terrible). "Give It To Me" blatantly and liberally borrows from Springsteen and the Pretenders. Most of her videos

At least "You and I" has a good-looking man in it...
