There really is no generic pop song like Roar at the top of the charts (in iTunes and Billboard) right now. Is this a good thing for it or a bad thing

It's why a song like Blurred Lines is utterly demolishing radio, why a song like We Can't Stop is still #2 on itunes after all these weeks, and why nothing Gaga creates these days has a chance in hell of cracking the top 5 after her initial payola, let alone going #1.

Sorry to bump in, but how can you judge Gaga's new era before even hearing the first single? Afaik that Aura demo isn't even confirmed to be from Artpop? (or I misunderstood things, if so I'm sorry).

Also I can hear that Roar is a well crafted song, it's obviously going to be successful. But I find it so flat, it never really picks up for me. I usually like Katy Perry's songs (except Wide Awake, that song was pure boring shit) so I'm just a bit disappointed by this one.

Blurred Lines isn't even generic at all (whoever said that above). It's slaying because of it's R&B elements, production, and because the video had naked people.

O now you reaching for the stars tonight

ARTPOP will be an EDM/Dance album. It's already behind the trends but that don't really matter since she'll put her own twist on it

So THAT'S why Gaga helped out Marina. Stealth promo for ARTPOP confirmed.

No! Bump in all you want. :)

I could end up being wrong. But for some reason I can't shake the idea that Applause is going to be this busy pop number with beats and inane lyrics flying from every direction.

I'd love for her to prove me wrong though, and stage a return of the Gaga that knew how to craft songs that were straightforward and completely irresistible.

Have you girls posted the first PRISM review? I havent checked the last few pages...

Oh well here goes:

This afternoon, I was invited to a small listening session of Katy Perry’s new album “Prism” in North Hollywood, CA (Thanks, Todd!) and I heard ten songs (the final version may contain 13 or 14). I am not allowed to give a full review, or even close to one, so I hope this article stays up.

I have always respected Katy Perry as a person and — for the most part — as an artist. She never touched me in the way Madonna, Alanis Morisette, Bjork or even Prince has. Needless to say, that has all changed with “Prism.” It is an epic album that not only redefines pop music, but will turn Katy Perry from a superstar into a history-making megastar. Madonna will always be the Queen of Pop, but Katy Perry will definitely be making a similar impact that Madonna did with “Like a Prayer” and “Ray of Light.”

The reason that Katy Perry succeeds where other wannabe pop queens fail is because she is not trying to be another Madonna. She is using Madonna’s influence to create her own path. Some may find similarities between some of the songs on Katy’s album and Madonna’s masterpiece “Ray of Light.” But I found the album to be more in line with Alanis Morisette’s “Jagged Little Pill,” the best album of the 1990s.

I am not allowed to mention any of the songs by name. My favorite song is one in which Perry looks back at a relationship and blames herself for the ultimate demise. It starts off slow and builds to an emotional climax. A lot of the songs are about love and Katy refuses to play the roll of the victim.

I can talk about the first single, the rock-electronic infused “Roar,” since it will be released Monday. It is certainly is a great and powerful song about self reliance and self empowerment, but I found other songs on the album more deserving to be a single. However, “Roar” is a safer choice since it doesn’t steer far away from Kerry’s past hits.

There is a reason why a cocaine addict named Lady Gaga has been releasing pornographic videos, faking hip injuries to cover up for bad ticket sales, and sitting still while her fans tweet cruel messages to Katy Perry. Gaga’s album has, so far, generated negative buzz. ARTPOP was supposed to be the big album of the season. Needless to say, “Prism” will jump all over it. It’s safe to say that the album will see Perry become a Grammy goddess as well.

Yeah I understand the concern. I really hope Applause go back to a more radio friendly sound, I guess we'll see. The lyrics we got are pretty meh but if the production is good they won't really matter.

I don't know why but I am somehow doubting the journalistic integrity of this preview

I don't get it.
Are people literally incapable of praising Katy Perry without bringing Lady Gaga into the picture?

That preview was fucking drivel.

Brave and Roar sound much more similar than Born This Way and Express Yourself imo

But Sara Bareilles vs Katy Perry isn't nearly as exciting as Madonna vs Lady Gaga so no1curr

They're two completely different songs. The ONLY similar thing is the drumline you hear, but even that is extremely simplified in Roar.

Melodies: completely different.

Chorus structure: completely different.

Katy should be dragged through poop filled dirt for this.

The next Thiefoncé.

She'll get away with it because it's not like Lady Gaga vs Madonna, sadly. Even though it sounds wayyy more similar to Roar then BTW did to Express Yourself. I guess if you are already basic people don't care if you continue to be basic.

kii @ the entire planet dragging BTW for sounding like EY.

At least Katy's lyrics sound nothing like Sara's and the beat is different after a bit too. Not an entire carbon copy of the song. Which BTW was clocked for.

Y'all stay trying to tread over that line thinking no one will clock y'all for hypocrisy.

Not to interrupt the endless accusations of plagiarism, but this remix slays my soul to the core. Such an underrated song tbh

Heard it on the radio the other day, scrambled to find the sauce. Thanks YT <3
