Bionic, I know you hate Tom Brady but this is going TOO far!!!!!

I hate Brady not Boston!

Now if Brady and Jordan suddenly disappeared forever on the same day, I think I might be the number one suspect.

Either you or Peyton Manning and a few 90s NBA Superstars made a deal with a merc.

Yep. Sources say it's around Boston City Hall. Funny that yesterday, there was a bomb threat in DC, right on the corner of 15th St and Penn AV (Basically corner of Whitehose's block). It was a red Van, and said to be a "gasoline bomb" - whatever that means. I was on stand-by for the special report for that one and todays - and haven't followed up. I guess since I'm not on emergency stand-by - and was not on last night - none of them blew up...

At first a got a lil bit frightened but then I remembered that I live in the hood in Roxbury. Just like a famous comedian said. Terrorists know better than to waste there time to kill black folks.

The van was some guy who was despondent over a custody battle for his children. His van had several containers of gasoline, some wiring and light switches in it, and he threatened to blow up the van if he didn't get custody of his children.

Police sent a robot over with a phone, and after talking with the police, the man peacefully surrendered.

Out of curiousity, what was the last confirmed terrorist attack in the US? 9/11?

But conservatives sure do love to crow about how Bush is doing such a great job, because "NOTHING has happened since September 11".

Iran, brother. They'll come out before too long.

I'll be there next. If you want to positively insure that you won't be a victim of Ws Ms or Ds then go where ever Bush says they are. You won't find them.

Hmm... radioactive dirty bombs are not that dangerous really, especially if they are suitcase sized. It's unlikely that anyone would die because of one...

edit:
Starting next Wednesday, BBC2 is to broadcast a three-part documentary series that will add further to what could be called the dirty bomb genre. But, as its title suggests, The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear takes a different view of the weapon's potential. "I don't think it would kill anybody," says Dr Theodore Rockwell, an authority on radiation, in an interview for the series. "You'll have trouble finding a serious report that would claim otherwise." The American department of energy, Rockwell continues, has simulated a dirty bomb explosion, "and they calculated that the most exposed individual would get a fairly high dose [of radiation], not life-threatening." And even this minor threat is open to question. The test assumed that no one fled the explosion for one year.

I see. Thanks for the follow-up! :)

"Umm, they is treatin' us good and shit; we be chillin' and shit. I'd like to give a shot out to Ray-Ray and Big Steve-- send some Trojans and some Newport."

:D

On topic, I was speaking with my grandfather about these things the other night; I remarked, "It's amazing that they can so casually send young men halfway around the world to fight a 'war on terror', risking their lives, yet refuse to take even cursory steps to secure our borders, ports of entry, and airports/planes, which, imo, are bigger threats to our security than ICBM's at the moment." At least if they were doing both concomitantly, you could say that they were being consistent-- but they're not, and that raises a lot of flags in my mind about motive.

Unfortunately, given our government's nearsighted course of action in terms of foreign policy, and its unwillingness to enact sensible security reform here at home, another terrorist attack on US soil is an inevitability, whatever form it may take. And that's sad.

Homer (looks around proudly): Looks like the bear patrol is working.
Lisa: That's a spurious comment. By your logic, I could say that this rock magically keeps away tigers.
(Homer nods)
Lisa: But it doesn't... it's just a rock!
(Homer nods)
Lisa: You don't see any tigers do you?
(pause)
Homer: Lisa, I'd like to buy your rock.
(Lisa sighs and sells him the rock)

The intent is to cause mass panic (since most people hear "radioactive" and freak out) and major economic impact due to an area being "contaminated." Whether or not the contamination is actually dangerous would clearly depend on a lot of factors, but I can imagine people not wanting to live or work nearby out of fear.

What episode of The Simpsons involves the Bear Patrol? I think I might like to see that again....it never comes around in syndication. Was it from the good Simpsons years or the bad Simpsons years?

Season 7, so right in the middle of the good stuff. It was the one where Apu needs to get legalized.

Which is why you never see it in syndication since they just show the shitty new stuff now.

On seeing the tax bill for the Bear Patrol after the B1 Bear Patrol Bomber flies overhead...

Homer: This is an outrage, let the bears pay the bear tax I pay the Homer tax!
Lisa: That's the home owners tax
Homer: Well anyway I'm still outraged

Classic Simpsons moment before the descent into continual mediocrity.

Its an inevitability regardless. The country is far too large to protect @ 100% from small groups of people determined to kill themselves to further their goal. A man who doesn't fear death is very hard to stop. Considering the number of people outside and inside of the US who are pissed at american government sooner or later there will be a domestic or foreign attack on US soil. Anyone who believes otherwise is pretty sad.

Remember, Dirty Bombs will be clearly marked, with clear notations pertaining to the radioactive materials, and the cartoon-style dynamite.

Beware of large, talking, red concentric circles.

If the floating radiation block begins to speak directly to you, a single sheet of drywall will stop the noise.

WE CAN BE SCARED, OR WE CAN BE READY.GOV!

Well obviously it's inevitable "regardless", but the broader point I was making was that if we pursued more sensible foreign policy while simultaneously shoring up the gaping holes in our security, we'd largely eliminate such threats. This is the best we can hope to do as a people, and I don't feel we're going about achieving either of these objectives particularly well at the moment.
