PPSSPP 0.75 released

I want an internal resolution option. That's all I need.

This is on their to do list.

They realize the importance of being able to disassociate the window size and the rendering resolution of the emulator for a variety of reasons (performance for lower end machines and additional image quality via downsampling for higher end machines)

You'll just have to make do with 2xSSAA for now.

I haven't really tried PPSSPP too much, but I wanted to ask something; I recall seeing some screenshots where there was an option to use the xBR filter. Is this automatically in PPSSPP, or does this filter have to be added to a location? I only ask because xBR is a wonderful scaler for 2D pixels. <3

EDIT: Also, I'm using my PS3 controller, and I can't reconfigure it for PPSSPP. Even if I have it acting as a 360 controller.

Havn't kept up with the emu scene and it's good to see a PSP emulator getting some good progress.

Been too lazy to turn on my PSP and yet I want to finish off the games I have. Since I'm on the computer all the time this may become a decent alternative lol.

It's an option in the texture filtering category. You can select from a variety of upscaling sizes and filters. You can read more about how it came to be here.

If you have it running as a 360 controller, it should work and be mapped automatically.

Double doh! I didn't get a more recent build of the emulator, so xBR was MIA. I also didn't have the right setting for the controls. Sorry for my dumb questions!

Oh, I have one more question! Does the emulator handle DLC at all? I have some for Valkyria Chronicles II, but if I recall JPCSP couldn't handle it because it was encrypted or something. That was a year or two ago when I looked into it.

Recent revisions have an interface to fully reconfigure either XInput emulated controllers or Direct Input ones, by heading to the controls dialogue box in the options menu:-

Just click on the button you wish to rebind with your mouse and press the appropriate button on your controller to rebind it.

It totally does. DLC support varies from game to game though. Just try it anyway.

Not a dev, just a glorified tester with a keen interest in the project lol. Always checking out the github page for new issues to report and fixes to try out. :D

Game is partially playable at the moment (with v0.7.6-1200-gce2d3dd), but there have been reports of users in the ppsspp.org forums unable to get past the second level on Android.

Always be checking back for newer updates! Fixes are coming in pretty rapidly these days, I suspect the devs are preparing a newer stable release soon, it's been a while since 0.7.6. :D

I'm looking to use it on PC. When I tried it, I seem to have the same result as what I read when I googled. No background music (it's a music game...deal breaker) and some textures weren't showing.

Edit: You can see an example of what I'm referring to on Youtube under PPSSPP/Patapon 3.

How does one actually try it?

Just like on a real CFW'ed PSP, you'd place the DLC content in the relevant memstick\PSP subfolder of your game.

The actual subfolder would vary depending on the game.

For example, in God Eater Burst's US DLC missions, you'd make a subfolder called GAME, under the memstick\PSP folder and then place the folder containing GBE's DLCs (ULUS10563) into the GAME folder.

So the final path would be (yourppssppfolder)\memstick\PSP\GAME\ULUS10563

Start up GBE, load your character, and the DLC will be detected and loaded.

It's that simple!

He's a bastard but I love him.

Just a hunch that there's very little audio buffering going on in the current builds?

No audio enhancements whatsoever. Still in the phase of making sure it plays properly in most games before thinking about those enhancements (like interpolation, etc)

Gotta go fast. Ambientmystic, how's MoHun now in terms of audio? Pretty much the same?

If by the same, you mean most audio and BGM except for sound fx now plays properly and consistently, then yes.

Older builds had issues wherein the BGM would fade when you transitioned to a newer area and then disappear completely.

The missing sound fx is still a mystery, as most games had sound fx working way before the BGM thanks to the atrac3+ native implementation into master.

That kitchen issue (unresponsive game after getting your felyne chefs to cook a meal for you) was also solved ages ago, and it was no coincidence it got rectified when the disappearing BGM issue was also rectified.

The intro cutscene also plays nicely now, it used to have issues displaying the video, and you could only hear the audio in the background of a black screen.

!!! By same I meant almost no audio played. HERE I COME!

Monster Hunter almost runs fine on my HTC One. Just some weird stuttering and bad framerate in spots, that goes away for a couple of secs when you pause/unpause?

Works perfectly (video and audio) for me on Windows 7 64bit using v0.7.6-1403-gf99caad-windows-x86. Started a New Game and all that.

What platform are you on and what version did you try the game on?

Same OS, same version as you with that sound .dll downloaded and installed..

Should I disable any of the options that are ticked?:

Start new game, quickly followed by this:

Disable VBO and Mipmapping. Also, (just for this test) disable 2xSSAA.

Make sure you're also not using any Texture Scaling (xBRZ etc) for this trial run.

It should work with the settings as in the screenshot (taken right after the opening cutscene from a New Game) below:-

EDIT:- It seems like you're crashing right when the game is trying to initialize the intro video. A log file would be helpful to diagnose the exact cause.

To make a logfile, double click on the Log.bat file in the ppsspp directory which will launch the emulator in logging mode, then run the game, start the new game, and let it crash.

Head to the User\Logs subfolder in the ppsspp folder, grab the logfile and then upload it to pastebin so we can see what went wrong exactly.

Also, it'd be helpful if you could click on "View Problem Details" dropdown arrow located in the "PPSSPP has stopped working" box and then take another screenshot, so that we can see the module at fault for crashing the emulator.

Nope..just the same, crashes as soon as it starts a new game.

Oh well, it could be to do with what GPU/driver settings and/or audio device/driver issue I have on my PC.

Not sure if I have the patience right now to try and narrow down what the issue is.

Thnx for the help anyway.

No probs. It would still be a great help for the project if we could get to the bottom of why the game doesn't work on your system exactly.

Refer to my previous edited post for the logging procedures whenever you feel up to it.

SOLVED!!!!

looked at the crash report as you suggested and guess what i found, the usual suspect:

Fault Module Name: atioglxx.dll

..sigh, ATI and their sucking OpenGL drivers, given me loads of problems over the years, so I went into catalyst control centre and disabled Advanced Catalyst AI.

and this is the result:

Arq.png

..spread the word, it doesn't like Catalyst A.I being enabled, at least on my card, so it's worth suggesting to disable it for some people having problems with ATI cards.

Hope i've been of some little help to the project, and thanks for your help again.

Interesting.

This is not the only game that hates Catalyst AI set to anything higher than Off or Low. AFAIK there is another game reported in the forums (Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 1) that causes a major memory leak (inevitably leading to a crash) and slow ass video playback when Catalyst AI is set to High/Advanced.

Thanks for reporting your findings, will definitely make a note of this in the forums for devs to be aware of.

Are you using RadeonPro as well? I know that tinkers with DLLs and such for application profiles, maybe that's applying something that conflicts with Catalyst AI somehow (I wouldn't know for sure, but figured I'd ask anyway :)

Edit: It's only doing it for one game, though? That *is* odd. I wish I actually knew what Catalyst AI was supposed to do :/

This game and Persona 1. AFAIK.

Damn, Peace Walker runs at 60fps with full sound on my computer compared to 5fps on JPCSP. Unfortunately it just hung after completing the tutorials.

Good jobs everyone. Cookies for all.

Also this EMU has the best system menu out there. Kinda console-like.

Oh and question, how do i get a memstick set up with this? Some games act like there isnt any space available for a save game. Am i just supposed to use savestates?

Yeah, that's due to a currently unimplemented PSP function in the emulator. Noted and known issue.

Hmm, theoretically speaking, the "virtual" memstick emulated by the emulator (located in the ppsspp\memstick folder) has a total size of 4GB, which should be more than enough for any amount of save games, since PSP ISOs or CSOs can be located and loaded from any location on your device/PC.

Which games are complaining about the lack of available space? It may be bug/issue onto itself, I don't think that's intended behaviour.

Was trying ultimate ghouls and ghosts and at the start it says it needs 400kb to save and if i want to continue anyway.

Ouh that game? It doesn't save anything (not even system data) until you go in game, progress a bit and do it yourself lol. That's normal behaviour for that game in particular. (like some games do)

It shouldn't, however, say you have insufficient space.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but is there a way to take screenshots in the emulator (other than Windows PrintScr key and pasting into Paint)?

Well, pretty much any game screenshot software will work. E.g. MSI Afterburner (it's free).

Built in? Not at the moment, unfortunately.

If you're on Windows 7+ you can always use the Snipping Tool (for windowed mode).

On another note, PPSSPP finally supports built in VSync for Windows with build v0.7.6-1414-gd220e55 !

Why is this significant?

Well, while NVIDIA users could always force it on and get it to stick in their own Control Panels for this emulator, it was always rather hit and miss for AMD/ATI users (sucky OpenGL support ftl).

Best part is that it automatically switches OFF when you engage turbo/unlock the VPS/or if the VPS drops below 60! Adaptive Vsync ftw!

:D

Isn't there already a pretty decent PSP emulator available or does my mind play tricks with me?

You must be thinking about JPCSP

They were trailblazers in PSP emulation, but PPSSPP is a much better emulator in terms of performance (designed to work with mobile android/iOS devices) and the sleek UI.

just tried Peace Walker. seems great performance wise, but i noticed that if you use fullscreen with it, the performance tanks. It goes to 30 fps, even though the graphics card usage doesn't really change.

Birth By Sleep works pretty well on this git build. It's not perfect, but I'd still rather play it like it is than play it on PSP.

At it's worst, it drops out background elements, and the blur effects are messed up.

But at its best (and it's at its best more than it's at its worst) it looks fantastic.

In fact, aside from a few very minor visual glitches, when not in cut scenes, it's pretty much flawless.

EDIT: Here's a short gameplay video, for shits and giggles.

Thanks for screenies. It's one heck of a gorgeous game built with assests meant to be rendered in HD or higher, thats for sure.

Just beat the game (At least, on one character), and I'm happy to say I didn't encounter any game breaking bugs. I did have some minor issues with performance on the Peter Pan level, when being bombarded with cannonballs. It would cause the audio to get distorted, but other than that, it wasn't bad.

Here's some more screens. I'll just link them since they spoil the last level.
