PPSSPP 0.75 released

Well after trying out other games to see if they ran better there seem to be more audio bugs in ones that had decent support before.

it fixed the game audio for djmax black square and clazziquai but now when i start a level the interface isn't there

Give and take proposition. It's always a give and take.

If you wanna help out, you could always make/contribute to an issues page on the ppsspp github site. Those hardworking folks barely have time to check GAF for feedback, they either check the ppsspp.org forums or the github page.

The latest orphis builds (as of 0.7.6-799) of PPSSPP now make Gods Eater Burst (US) somewhat playable. Such a massive amount of progress for this game in a short period of time.

It went from Black Screen to in game to somewhat playable in the space of a few days. The issue the game had with detection and loading of previous savegames has also been solved.

Gundam Vs Gundam Next Plus save/load issues have also been dealt with in the same revision.

Is it possible to play through a game on the emu and then transfer the save file to a Vita and continue the game?

Yep. Depends on the game though, some games still have save/load issues which are being tackled by the devs.

Apparently different games utlize different modes on the PSP for saving and loading, which they're still coming to grips with.

State your game of interest and I'll be able to tell you whether it's possible or not.

I'm guessing this has something to do with the BS save encryption being tied to the FW introduced to later games.

For me it would be Persona 3 , Persona 2: Innocent Sin , Knights in the Nightmare and Final Fantasy 4 complete.

Yes, to the Persona games on your list.

Yes for Knights in the Nightmare, but I wouldn't recommend playing the game itself on PPSSPP until they iron out the ingame freezing issues

A confirmed no for FF4 at the moment until they fix it.

Having the same issue with the new PPSSPP version as I do with all the other emulators while trying to run Grand Knight History. Plays the intro, fade to black, hangs.

If anyone gets it working on this, or anything else, could you please post your method/settings. I would appreciate it as it's the only PSP game i'm interested in playing.

They've done it folks!

As of git revision 0.7.6-926, you don't have to use OpenMG/SonicStage nor oioitff's build to get Atrac3+ audio anymore!

Just download the latest revision from Orphis, and download this .dll from oiotiff here, rename the .dll from MaiAT3PlusDecoder.dll to at3plusdecoder.dll, place it in your PPSSPP folder, and you are good to go!

To recap:-

1. Download latest revision from Orphis

2. Download atrac3 dll from oioitff's google docs site here.

3. Rename the .dll file to at3plusdecoder.dll

4. Place .dll file in your latest PPSSPP folder.

5. Enjoy at3+ music and voices without relying on OMG/SS or oioitff's builds anymore!

Great news! I might actually try messing around with this emu now. Yes, this was entirely what was holding me back from trying it.

It still has that distortion in it but it works! I'm thinking it's the mono audio that is distorting since most of the music is fine while dialogue is choppy.

Just to temper some expectations, the implementation is not perfect, meaning that certain games, as mentioned above will have audio distortion, for example, Black Rock Shooter's BGM.

If it bothers you, you can always disable audio for those particular games until they fix it.

It's still pretty much a work in progress, as always.

And..... right after the at3+ audio has been made functional, the dev team continues its feverish pace and finally, FMV cutscene support is now implemented into the master builds!

That's right folks. PPSSPP now natively supports video playback in games!

Update your git builds to the latest one (v0.7.6-1025-g230d0b3) now!

EDIT:- Keep a copy of an older working build too. Just in case. This is still a WIP after all.

Interesting, I didn't even know a PSP emulator was being developed. And on top of that, it seems to be compatible with Android devices. Thanks for the info.

Music was working in Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, but still not one sound effect. FMVs didn't work for me, either.

So close, but yet so far.

Nice to see development is so rapid. Emulation truly allows games to last forever instead of being locked to dying hardware.

Holy shit, I've been waiting for monster hunter to work forever.
60 fps all day, just missing a few sfx. Beautiful.

Pretty sweet they were able to deliver updates not requiring all those sony installs now.

Imo this is their most impressive achievement yet.

JPCSP had the video support built in for quite a while, but always required those multiple Sony dependencies (+ at3tool.exe) for atrac3+ audio, even after many years of development.

That's great to hear! Do you know if the AT3+-type stuff is able to be built in the non-x86 versions? As in, iOS, Android etc.

Here's a question. What's the interpolation for the audio? It seems fine but kinda ratty on the high end and the depth is poor. A lot of sounds also pop out as too loud or too soft - maybe that's just the games I play?

Second, are there going to be more effective post-processing filters later on? The one available now is blurry and has those dreaded green outlines. Even sprites are tolerable for me on PPSSPP without filters, but the options would be nice.

There is currently no audio interpolation, this will be added when I have time or when someone else bothers to. So "ratty" is just as expected :)

Post processing effects and similar luxuries are obviously going to happen but not the main focus right now, the emu is 7 months old and is still quite rough in many ways. There is currently no post processing so I'm wondering if you mean texture scaling? That normally shouldn't give you green outlines, and I know it doesn't in the games I have, although if a game is using color testing for transparency, it could happen. Which game is that?

The linear filter gives green outlines in tactics ogre. I was playing on an older build when I messed around with that option.

The texture scaling recently added is great, as is native decoding for the audio.

Don't bother with that game just quite yet. It goes in game, but the character models are invisible, rendering the game unplayable lol.

That happen in Star Ocean: First Departure as well which is weird since SO2 works really well and I'm pretty sure they both use the same engine.

Really thrilling to behold the progress on this project. I mean, I try to keep close tabs on the whole of the emulation scene, but there's just this certain sense of infectious optimism to this one in particular as it just merrily snowballs down the mountain thanks to the hard work of the various team members attacking this and that in turn as they can.

I can hardly imagine where it'll all be come year's end if the current momentum just so much as holds relatively steady---to say nothing if a few lucky breaks are caught in the meantime!

More rapid progress has been made in the past few hours or so.

The latest build (v0.7.6-1130-g2e7b971) now fixes quite a few games in various different ways:-

1. Tekken 6's and Soul Calibur's long standing issue of getting stuck at a loading screen with random numbers when savedata is present is now fixed!

You can now finally utilize your own savedata properly without having to rely on savestates!

2. Various games with stuttering audio in their FMVs have now been fixed.

FF VII CC and FF Type 0 are primary examples of the games affected by these fixes. Their various FMVs play perfectly with flawless audio now.

All thanks to the devs involved.

Where are the latest builds downloaded?

Edit: nevermind found it.

Some day Birth By Sleep Final Mix will be perfectly emulated in glorious 1080p.

Someday ;-;

They're getting there.

The overbright issue that plagued recent builds has been fixed in the latest revision.

Cutscenes and FMVs are fully voiced and synced now too. BGM's perfect.

There're a few niggling issues left to iron out, like shadow placements, the minimap, and the delayed transitional effect after passing certain events the game.

I was pretty excited and installed it and set it up, only to find out it doesn't work for Patapon 3. So guess I'll check back in a year or two.

There's nothing else I'm dying to replay on the PSP. I bought all the games I wanted to play for it back when I was big into it.

Ambient are you a dev on this too or just their PR person lol :p

Not a dev, just a glorified tester with a keen interest in the project lol. Always checking out the github page for new issues to report and fixes to try out. :D

Game is partially playable at the moment (with v0.7.6-1200-gce2d3dd), but there have been reports of users in the ppsspp.org forums unable to get past the second level on Android.

Always be checking back for newer updates! Fixes are coming in pretty rapidly these days, I suspect the devs are preparing a newer stable release soon, it's been a while since 0.7.6. :D
