PPSSPP 0.75 released

Oh man, P3P is almost perfect on my PC. My S3 isn't beefy enough to handle Tartarus, but it does fine with everything else (doesn't help much if I'm dungeon crawling at half FPS though). It's great that PSP emulation has finally taken off after my real PSP has fallen apart.
S3 has roughly the same specs as my Note 2 and it plays perfect.

Just downloaded this for the hell of it and tried my simplest game Corpse Party and works just the FMV Intro doesn't work for anyone who is interested.

Loads of games are playable with working video and audio as of the current 0.8-74 git revision.

You can find a comprehensive compatibility list here:-

http://forums.ppsspp.org/showthread.php?tid=1473

(actually slightly outdated, which means more games are actually playable on that list)

The Op should really be updated with the link to the build bot with all the latest revisions and maybe the thread title changed to "PPSSPP emulation and discussion thread" or something rather than having it listed as one specific version.

Well, it's not really an OT. Don't think OP has been here for a while.

Well, it's not really an OT. Don't think OP has been here for a while.

So would it be possible to make a proper OT for this emulator? Is it even permissible by the mods, given that we already have this "catch-all" thread on GAF?

We'd need to get someone unaffliated with project to start it up though, so that rules me out. I don't think blatant self-promoting is allowed on GAF, and is in fact a bannable offence.

I know but it's currently used as a catch-all style thread for anything PPSSPP related so seems like an OT would be appropriate is all.

Yeah, self promotion isn't allowed. I assume a proper OT would be alright for this similar to the Dolphin OT but if a mod sees this, they can let us know if one is allowed to be made.

I'm 99% sure it would be allowed, just PM any mod and ask. This isn't some random just joined junior who is shilling his never heard of game for money, its a PSP emulator/help thread and probably no one else here knows more about it better then you.

He's got a point, especially about the last part :)

Heck, there are so many examples of people who are "self-promoting" their whatever's on GAF and its never been a problem before, just go make it if your up to a |OT|, but probably don't call it a OT just call it something like PPSSPP general discussion thread or whatever.

Oh hi Durante 3 posts above, hows your DSfix thread.... just saying.

So whats the best way to compress iso files to get them as small as possible that will still work with PPSSPP? I know you can turn them into cso files but I remember way back with the PSP and cfw you could also remove dummy files, update folders, and even other languages files besides english that would all save huge amounts of space, I would like to try and compact my games as small as I can, anyone have a guide for this and what tools do people use. It's been so long.

Running PPSSPP .8 on n7, only tried Tactics Ogre so far; seems to be running alright.

nm, I take it back, on default, maps and units are blacked out lol.

edit - apparently hitting the save button got my map to show up. Weird.

posted on last page...

Tactics Ogre runs perfectly on PPSSPP 0.8, though there are some ajustements to do, namely:
- Uncheck MipMapping, or else you won't be able to read text at all during cutscenes and in the menus.
- You have to toggle Buffered Rendering (via F5) depending on if you are on the worldmap or the battlefield, otherwise the only thing you will see is a black screen (even if some elements of the UI and dialogues boxes are visible).

A tiny incremental update, v0.8.1 has been released on the main page.

This mainly resolves the crashes related to downloading the Atrac3+ plugin.

And... for bleeding edge PPSSPP orphis build bot users, I've a pleasant announcement for you.

The latest git revision (v0.8.1-37-ged47eac) has now incorporated the ability to play PSP/PS3 HD Remasters that I teased about several pages back and also, the ability to continue onwards in Danganronpa with the framebuffer to mem addition (since v0.8.1-20-g5fcd521)

To enable the frame buffers to mem option for now, start up ppsspp once, exit, then head to the ppsspp.ini file and change the FramebuffersToMem entry to True. It is set to False by default due to the massive performance penalty incurred by the option.

Enjoy.

How will PSP HD Remasters work? ISO or putting the disk into the BD drive?

How will PSP HD Remasters work? ISO or putting the disk into the BD drive?

Depends on the game.

(There are only 5 titles at the moment; MONSTER HUNTER PORTABLE 3rd HD Ver., K-ON Houkago Live HD Ver, Sora No Kiseki FC Kai HD edition, Sora No Kiseki SC Kai HD edition and Shin Sangoku Musou Multi Raid 2 HD Ver)

For something like Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD, all you have to do is:-

(taken from daxtsu's Monhun 3rd portable HD thread from the PPSSPP forums)

1Q. How do I get this game off my PS3?
1A. If you have a PS3 with custom firmware, use an FTP program to grab /dev_hdd0/game/NPJB40001/USR_DIR/CONTENT/EBOOT.PBP and put it somewhere on your PC/mobile, then just extract the ISO and run it.

Otherwise, I believe a PC with a bluray drive can do the same thing; just grab the 1.2GB PKG file off the disk and extract it using one of the many PS3 PKG extractors on the Internet.

After that, just use npdpc or mongoose to extract the game's ISO from the eboot.

The original Remaster Eboots are not compatible with PPSSPP.

Another quick (potentially sigficant) update from the build bot:-

v0.8.1-41-ge440fa6 incorporates the ability to lock the emulated PSP CPU frequency to whatever you want. (default being 1-333 MHz which varies according to game.)

This is useful in certain games to combat internal FPS slowdowns. A game has internal slowdown if you're getting a VPS reading of 60 but a ppsspp FPS reading of below 30 (e.g. 20 FPS).

Examples would be Ys Seven, Legend of Heroes: Trails in The Sky, MGS Portable Ops and Portable Ops Plus (all run at 20 Flips per second rather than the normal 30)

MGS Portable Ops internal slowdown:-
iViXjsQGhkxkm.PNG

To change the CPU frequency, head to Settings, System and tick the Locked CPU speed option. Exit the emulator and then head to the ppsspp.ini file, and under the [CPU] heading, change the CPUSpeed entry to whatever you desire.

There are a few caveats to this function:-

1. If you set it too high (e.g. 1GHz), your actual performance may be worse, as you're now effectively emulating a more powerful PSP. Requirements will increase accordingly.

2. If you set it too low (e.g. <111 MHz), games will start to stutter and graphics will get broken.

3. Certain games, like Tekken 6 for example, do not like this function at all, and will refuse to boot with the CPU Speed set to anything other than 222 MHz.

Experiment at your own risk (ensure that you backup a working ppsspp.ini file), and if something goes awry, remember, you can always go back to a previously working configuration by reverting to the previous ini file.

I personally use 666 MHz (2x the default maximum freq of the PSP) to combat internal slowdown in the afflicted games.

This should also solve it with Ys vs Sora no Kiseki then. Will have to give it a try later. That game will be fun once controller support is added, it's begging to be played with a GCN controller.

FFIV: Complete Collection says its playable, but the in-game dialog is missing from the text boxes. I just see big blue boxes with no words. Any suggestions?

I don't think that works on AMD cards. There's something you can do for NVidia cards to make it work but I forgot what it is exactly. Edit: Disabling buffered rendering.

A small preview of a feature to come... soon.

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD (previously only on the PS3) in glorious 1080p60 2XSSAA on PPSSPP and in English, thanks to Team Maverick's MHP3 PS3 fantranslation patch applied. Made possible thanks to PSP/PS3 remaster support due to be added in in the near future.

Please be excited.

It would be SOOO cool if they managed to get virtual LAN functionality going (like the PSPs local online). Monster Hunter...on the PC...with OTHER PEOPLE... gets my excited. One can dream.

Was thinking of whipping up an OT for PPSSPP. It wouldn't be anything special since I'm not creative lol. Or would anyone else like to do it?

Go ahead Sajjaja.

Just a simple one will suffice. Nothing fancy; a short description of the emulator, some screenshots, links to youtube videos of the emulator in action and a link to the main ppsspp.org page and the orphis build bot page for bleeding edge builds (for testers). Plus, maybe a link to the current compatibilitty list in the forums would be a good idea as well

That's about it I guess. Also, calling it the "PPSSPP emulation and discussion thread" just like Stuart444 suggested earlier on the thread without any specific version number appended to it would be a good idea as well.

Interesting fact: PCSX2 actually supported for online play for the original Monster Hunter back in 2008, sadly the servers were shut down shortly after the support was implemented.

It was very cool when it worked though!

Keep the OP simple if you plan to keep it updated with updates and other useful info, because huge image heavy OP's will ensure I will never recheck it again after the first time. I don't like having to reload 20+ 2560x1600 of showoff pics of Crisis Core, Kingdom Hearts and whatever other games whenever something might pop up.

That's true.

Plain .png image links without the img tags may be the best compromise for mobile/bandwidth restricted users.

You'll have to consider the fact that others will still be posting screenshots in follow up posts beyond the OP.

Can't avoid that first page clutter.

Well Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment crashes the emulator ("PPSSPP has stopped working" error) :/

First game I've tried that crashes the emulator, oh well.

edit: I'll try a newer version, since a thread on the forums seem to have it working though not perfectly

edit 2: okay, funny thing... I had the folder (that the game was in) in Japanese Katakana. I changed it to English characters and now it's not crashing the emulator. Weird bug.

Kinda fascinating seeing the hardcore development happening with the constant orphis builds being uploaded. Same deal with pcsx2.

Sure is. I usually refresh the build bot page 3 times a day just to see whether or not the latest commits from github have been pushed to the master build.

~Kinggi~, if you're interested in the dev side of things, you should definitely frequent the ppsspp github page. Have a look at the issues page and the pull request page in particular to see proprosed ideas and fixes.

Which settings would those be? I'm trying some different things and can't seem to get above 40 VPS

With a party of 4 on tartarus i bottom out at 30 VPS (each party member drops it by ~10). Occasional drops below that during battles. Going solo sits at a comfy 60, all other parts of the game are also 60. (Make sure you don't have any power saving features enabled and you shut down all background apps).

In the graphics settings I have this setup.

ON:
Hardware Transform
Vertex Cache
Stream VBO
Mipmapping

OFF:
Everything else

I tweaked with these a lot on an earlier build, they might not be optimal at the latest.

Another day, another upgrade for this fledgeling, yet up and coming emulator.

With git revision v0.8.1-125-gf5da5f4, the team has now merged in an internal FPS (not to be confused with VPS/Speed) limiter!

Why is this significant, you ask?

Games like the God of War series used to internally render up to 3000 internal FPS in the title screens, which lead to a subsequent VPS (speed) decline, now render normally at both 60 VPS and 60 internal VPS!

This means that they are now more playable on lesser hardware and mobile devices (with frameskipping)!

(To enable this new function, just head to Settings --> Graphics --> next page x2 ---> tick the force 60 FPS or less checkbox.)

Also notice that the VPS counter has been renamed to Speed for accuracy.

Rejoice!

Just tried 0.8! The progress is quite fast indeed. :O

I tried Crisis Core which was working real bad last time I tried and now everything is almost perfect. Mega Man Maverick Hunter X is quite a looker too but the in-stage SFX doesn't seem to work. Soul Calibur Broken Destiny works quite well too.

Is there a key for screenshots? The good old print screen doesn't work for me. D:

Ah, this is more or less what I was already getting. I don't really want to play solo and going through tartarus at 2/3rds speed is a chore for me. I guess I'll do the dungeon crawling on PC and transfer the saves to my S3 so I can do the other stuff.

If you're on the latest 0.8.1 git revision, the screenshot key is now F12.

All pictures taken will be in the screenshots subfolder under the main PPSSPP folder.
