Lol yes the US is the only country with freedom because you can call for women to be raped in front of high schools. Every other western country basically is just a hell hole without freedom because they have hate speech laws.

I'm mentally ill. I've been to a mental hospital. If my illness progresses to the point that I'm standing in front of a high school telling children that they deserve to be raped, I pray that a stoned 19 year old woman hits me in the head with a baseball bat.

The definition of mental illness is flexible though, reprehenisbly cuntish behaviour is not listed as a disorder in the DSM but maybe it should be. The disorders in the DSM are literally just voted on by a bunch of psychiatrists anyway so it's kinda arbitrary. I'm not trying to stigmatize sufferers of mental illness, far from it. If depression is a mental illness then I'm a sufferer myself. I'm trying to say that battering people over the head is not something to be encouraged or celebrated. I'll drop the language of mental illness though since it's obviously quite inflammatory language. I'm not trying to equate the preacher to people who suffer from schizophrenia or bipolar or anything else. Though I do think he is delusional, arguably all religious people are but that's besides the point. I'll just say that the preacher is sick, seriously. Yes, he was abusing the kids and yes he needed to be stopped -- preferably by the police who could issue a restraining order. But the guy is still sick, he's a victim of religious extremism and one way to prevent problems like this from occurring in the first place would be to educate people about religion.
The authors of the DSM 'invent' mental illnesses all the time, only a few decades ago LGBT people were considered mentally ill, now these days particularly energetic kids are ADHD because they can't sit down for 8 hours in school, so they get sedated. I'll drop that terminology though and just say the guy is sick. Obviously he needed to be stopped and what he was doing was harmful. Battering him shouldn't be celebrated, dude could've been killed, that's not tit for tat. Guy needs to be scheduled mandatory appointments with an LGBT counselor or something. Let him develop a friendship with the counselor where they advise him and try to improve his life and stuff. He comes to respect and rely on the counselor then boom, the counselor reveal they're gay and he has to rethink his opinions or something

Literally WBC is legally allowed to go to your funeral (well on the sidewalks around it) with signs that say God Hates Fags because there's no law stopping them.

The school failed and the police failed tremendously. Those kids should have been forced to disperse within minutes. Put a pot of water on the stove for 7 minutes and guess what - it'll start to boil too.
Now one of their 19 year old students has ruined the rest of their life. Internet props isn't going to scrub a felony assault from her record.
Applauding her actions simply encourages the next impulse-driven young adult to ruin their life too. But as long as we get to see it on the internet for our entertainment, it's worth it, right?
Maybe consider that angle before publicly supporting her actions. Your likes and shares aren't going to get this girl a stable career once she gets out of prison.

I remember back when I was in college (at a very liberal school with a massive LGBT population), we would have anti-gay protesters show up all the time with signs like this. The freshmen would get riled up, but all of the older students held the conventional wisdom that "they're trying to get someone to hit them so they can sue the school."
I wonder if that was truly the case.

I have thought plenty about this. I believe my freedom to not be shouted at by hate preachers should take precedence over someone with a "You deserve to be raped" sign standing outside a school. Thankfully western Europe agrees.

"I prefer freedom" says dude on a country that has enacted the Patriot Act, one of the worst infringers of freedom, and seemingly not many Americans gave a shit about those freedoms.
Apparently "freedom" means "free to own guns" and "free to be a bigoted asshole" and not much else.
I'd argue telling children they deserve to be raped should not be protected speech. Shouting fire in a crowded theater and all that. Regardless, it's not an either-or; it's open to interpretation and nuance like everything else.
