Preorder Quantum Break for Xbox One, Get Windows 10 version for free - also HW specs

I'd say this is why MS may not be that fussed about Xbox One exclusives being on Windows.

The majority of the games people truly care about will require a monstrosity of a PC when you can just buy an Xbox for a fraction of the price.

Do i understand that right, when i preorder Quantum Break digitally now, i get Alan Wake and its DLCs + American Nightmare?

Because the wording sounds weird.

The minimum specs aren't anything special.

If this is really all about increasing the appeal and usage of Windows, as Nadella said, then they need to make it easier to pick a Windows 10 laptop over an Apple for work and play. Games playable only on expensive laptops and desktops isn't going to win over people, so I think they'll make sure their games target a range of hardware options starting with Windows 10.

You do, yes. On Xbox 360 backwards compatibility. You get American Nightmare in a week or so, and Alan Wake and it's DLC around when the game launches.

Those of you who have pre ordered digitally on X1, are you ordering on the console? Just want to make sure that if I preorder this on the console that it will get me the Win 10 version as well. The wording is weirdly specific with "Xbox Store".

Word. Gonna preorder it through console, should be good to go. Hopefully.

Great move on Cross-Buy. So now I can play on my PC and my Son can play it on the Xbox. I am sure the pre-order limitation is just MS testing the waters. I am confident this will pay off for them, they just got my $60 because of this.

How can the minimum specs be a 760? That GPU is far better than the Xbox One's hardware.
Maybe it's for 1080p/60@Xbox One settings.

Well the phenomenon is not exactly unprecedented, they wouldn't have to research very far to see that people love cross-buy.

Damn and I just bought American Nightmare the other day. Well, I guess I will have a Code to sell or giveaway once they send them out.

Glad MS is doing this, I have a killer gaming rig, but also like playing games on the Xbox One, so them giving me both versions, plus Alan Wake BC and the DLC is an incredible deal. QB seems like one of those games you would want to play it through a few times. I have a very high end PC, but with recommended specs of a 980ti is making me think my 2xTitan X at 4k is not going to cut it.

I hope they get the PC code preorder bonus to us on release day. If we have to wait as long as we did for the Gears codes....ugh

as far as getting alan wake, the DLC, and american nightmare(Not interested in the PC version since my PC cant handle this game anyway) is it better to get it through amazon or best buy..best buy they have no clue in online chat what the game comes with, want to get all the goodies but all it says on best buys site when you pre order is
Quantum Break Digital Preorder Incentive - Xbox One [Digital Download Add-On]
not sure what that even is

Goodness, I know my 760 isn't a top of the line card but this is the first time I am considered part of the minimum requirements. Not sure if it's worth it to get it on PC in that case?

Alright so i have a 970. I should be able to get high settings at 1080/60FPS right? O and is this the first game to be asking for a 980Ti for recommended?

I was thinking about to buy an Xbox One, but my PC is almost Ultra settings (SSD, 4790K, 32GB RAM, GTX 970).
Sooooo... Goodbye Xbox One.

A console is not a PC and a PC is not a console? Did you really believe a Radeon 7770 in a PC would have the equivalent performance of an Xbox One for the entire gen?

If you preorder it digitally on Xbox one, you will get the windows 10 store code with crossplay to play on your pc gaming rig as well.

Best of both worlds for me =D.

They will prob continue the whole preorder on Xbox digitally to get the free windows 10 game code as well for other games in the future.

What's the difference though? I assumed it was just packaging... I think I also heard apps can only run in borderless window, but I'm not sure. What are the major downsides?

If it's a sandboxed app you probably can't examine or modify the files. Probably no mods, probably no ini tweaks and such.
If that is the case, those things aren't a major loss to me anyway. I enjoy the capability to tweak things when I feel like something has a deficiency out of the box. I'm hoping MS and Remedy have their pants on straight for this. I'm not saying this is ideal, but I don't think it needs to be a dealbreaker.

What about forcing driver level options? Normally you point those at an .exe, but I've never tried to see if apps can be added manually in a similar fashion.

still don't think you actually need 16 GB of ran to run this if you have a good enough GPU (CPU obviously). 8 GB is probably fine, but, you won't be able to run a lot in the background

Another MS ploy of shifting Win 10 down people's throats. I mean I get it, they need people to move to it, but damn are they desperate.

Also as for the specs, although I meet the recommended specs, this doesn't actually bode well. I mean look at the all the other games that came out in the last 2 years, majority of them don't actually have proper recommended specs. Many of which needed signifantly more to play the game at prettier than console settings.

Quantum Break? Hmmm.. 980ti/Fury X? Well I wouldn't be surprised that neither cards will be enough for 60fps, much less to say at 1440p.

Yep. My thoughts exactly.
QB being Windows Store only is what's putting me off big time. I'll take the usual "wait and see" approach.
RoTR Windows Store version is seriously lacking compared to Steam. *sigh*

They can be windowed. A problem is that they don't run with injectors, so programs like fraps are out. I think 'fullscreen' is technically borderless, but then it really locks down your computer so something like recording with shadowplay or overlay programs (steam overlay, msi afterburner, etc) aren't possible.

My 980 isn't enough? I hate PC gaming ;;

It's still going to look great. And this remedy, if they are asking for a 980ti, it's going to look stunning. I remember max Payne 2 looking great and running on the weakest of hardware.

Desperate how? Win 10 is doing great and has a great adopting rate.

I'm still curious what Ultra entails. Is it 1440p/60fps? Is it like Shadow of Mordor where you needed a 6GB VRAM card to run ultra textures? Is Ultra 1080p/60fps? Is Recommended 1080p/60fps? Or is it 30fps?

I wish devs would be a bit more descriptive of what each requirement entails.

is it 100% confirmed??? That would be a downer , especially after the news with the final blow to GfWL accounts

I think specs sheets in general are useless too. Basically all they say is: You need a reasonably good computer to run it, and a really good computer to run it well. :/

The Xbox One version is one you can count on having relatively solid performance. The PC version... it's hard to guess right now how any hardware will run it. I have a great gaming PC, but I don't have a 980 Ti. I'm sure my PC will run it better than the Xbox One, but given that until this morning I thought it was an Xbox One exclusive and I was planning on buying it... why wouldn't I take the route that gets me both versions at little to no cost or inconvenience?

How do you know this? Xbox One titles as a whole relatively deep under 30 fps using unusual or adaptive resolutions... that's not something I would call solid in terms of performance.

The only inconvenience of the pc version is the damn app format in which Windows 10 treats its games. It was horrible for Fable Legends, and this is why I was glad to see a Steam version of Tomb Raider, Xbox achievements be damned.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on them giving both versions for the price of one (that is if you pre-order). It's a good thing.

Isn't this the same for Rise of the Tomb Raider? What are people experiences with the windows store version of that?

Not good.
Not compatible with pc monitoring overlay programs (except one, iirc), and the patch arrived very late compared to the steam version (or has it arrived yet, actually?). It's also missing certain display/graphics options, apparently.

Isn't this the same for Rise of the Tomb Raider? What are people experiences with the windows store version of that?

It's not about whether the game works so much as the ability to mod and tweak files to taste or open up new options. Part of the reason PC gamers buy their games on PC is for the inevitable suite of custom gameplay mods, visual enhancements, and tweaks. Turning PC games into a console game experience isn't something anyone wants or asked for.

Can't mod it afaik
Can't use on screen displays (memory hooks)
Can't use sweetfx
Patches are slower to release than steam
Vsync always on as it's an App
