Prey (2017) |OT| Trust no one. Not even your shelf

Very cool game, but I get the feeling that if you explore thoroughly enough, you'll be so powerful that the challenge disappears. This combined with just getting to know your enemies means the tension and fear of the first few hours really wears off. Anyone else feel that way? I've got this feeling even though I went from Hard to Hardest.

Also, screw the
Psychocope add-on that allows you to see hidden Mimics
. What kinda cheat code BS is that? I'm not using that.

Also, does the game warn you when you're about to reach the point where
Turrets start to hate you
? Edit: found it on the status page. Strangely enough, it says I'm 'just below' the threshold, but in practice, I'm already in trouble.

I finally came back to this after taking a hiatus to play Destiny 2 and without any doubt, this is shaping up to be my GOTY so far (along with RE VII). I'm 15 hours in and I just
collected all voices samples from Danielle Sho in the Crew Quarters to open Deep Storage
. How many hours do I have left? I'm trying to do all sidequests as well

I'm struggling super hard with the game so far.

Combat is very... frustrating.

I have no ammo for guns that are not accurate and deals shit damage.

I try as much as possible to evade combat but I can't find all the codes and notes and items in the rooms if I don't clean them so I feel frustrated because I miss so much items and can't craft any ammo nor medkit.

I feel like I need so much to survive. I look at the Neuromod branchs of skills and I need them all to survive right now lol

Am I missing anything ? I'm not far in, I have to head to Psychotronics now.

Love em,

what's like the main criticism with this title?

It doesn't really take advantage of the open gameplay to give you a lot of variety and options for approaching encounters. It feels pretty limiting compared to a Deus Ex or even a Bioshock.

Psychotronics caused me to quit playing the game. I didn't want to do the alien powers and it meant not being able to deal with those ones that split and like shoot lightning at you. That's a real low point in the game honestly.

You're going to have to go back and get those items you missed. Before I went to Psychotroincs, I explored every nook and cranny of the places that were open for me, which turned out to be good because I would've been severely underpowered had I went there when the game told me too.

After you explore those area, cheese your ways into areas you aren't supposed to be in yet. If you have the level one strength neuromod and need to get into a place that requires level 2 or 3, you can toss things like chairs or small boxes into those larger objects and push them/glitch them out of the way.

If you have the transformation neuromod, shrink your way past those inventory cages in where you find your first shuttle door to get more items.

Pick up those extra guns you see lying around and recycle them.

Use the Gloo Gun to freeze foes and bash them with your wrench to save ammo. Or just bash them with your wrench if you think you can kill them that way.

Do side quests that are in areas you've been already as the reward is worth it, usually a pack of neuromods.

Load up on recycler grenades. A well place toss can kill most enemies instantly. If they don't die, they should be damaged enough to kill with the wrench.

After all of that, you should be strong enough or well stocked enough to explore Psychotronics.

Hmm I didn't go any alien powers and was able to kill every enemy in the game. Did you get the combat focus upgrade? It's not considered an alien power up and was very clutch in taking down late game type enemies.

Ok, so my first encounter with the nightmare might have killed all the enthusiasm I had for this game.

Just hide for now if you are not strong enough, wait for the timer to run out...I only killed one and it didnt even drop anything more then the thougher Phantoms...they are easily cheesed so they dont see you if you find a good safe hiding spot...lock those doors ;)

Yeah, the Nightmare is a pretty terrible enemy but as said already it can be easily avoided. Find a small room or somewhere to hide for a few minutes. I just hid from it and messed around on my phone for 3 minutes waiting for it to disappear.

Yeah, after trying to find somewhere to hide (in a new area I hadn't visited before) I gave up, turned round and return back to where I came from and waited the timer out.

In other news, telepaths are legit.

I picked Prey up from Best Buy on Sunday for $23.99 (with GCU). Thank goodness for backlogs keeping me waiting until now!

I cant wait to fire it up, after liking the atmosphere of the demo and hearing all of the praise.

After skimming some of the posts, and trying very hard to stay away from spoilers, it seems the difficulty can ramp up pretty quickly and unexpectedly. Any pointers to share for someone going in fresh?

Get a shotgun as soon as you can. Upgrade it. Slow down time, then introduce enemies to your boom stick.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.

Explore every nook and cranny.

The combat is not easy at all so you'll want as many items and upgrades as possible. If you run straight to objectives its a lot harder.

Finished it. If you scrounge everything and choose the right neuromods, you'll really be a god by the endgame. It's probably a real bitch to balance the later stages with gameplay as complicated as this, so it's no cardinal sin, but the absence of challenge at this point is of course still a negative.

Absolutely. On the one hand, I think it's great that you're rewarded when you explore and lvl up. Still, it gets to easy towards the end. There shoul have been some optional encounters with mini bosses that are undefeatable w/o all mods. They probably tried that with the Nightmare though...

The nightmare is pretty easy to beat with the right gear, too, unfortunately. At the end, I was just breezing through sections to get where I was going, thanks to extra high jumping and chipsets to augment the jetpack as much as possible. Enemies could still hurt me, but I had a shitton of healing and I could smack them into oblivion if they really got in my way.

Love the game nonetheless. That freedom in gameplay is delicious.

I'm around the 10 hour mark which I guess is halfway and I encountered a couple of Technopaths which absolutely wrecked my business. Used some shotgun shells and a lot of pistol rounds, it was barely dented. Threw a recycler charge which didn't even do 1/3 damage.

Promptly turned around and ran away.

haha, that's great. Make sure to scan enemies and check your research diary for their weaknesses.

Any tips on why I'm getting a 30fps lock on this on PC?

Was trying the demo on my new PC to see how it runs and for some reason it's locking it to 30fps. Doesn't matter if I set the graphical settings to very low or very high, it's allways locked at 30fps.

I’ll post more elaborate thoughts later (when I’m not literally playing the game), but wowzers! What a game this is! It’s got its hooks in me bad.

So it seems I was one who enter pyschotronics underpowered. I cleared it but never touched the game again after that since I reached some area that was just flooded with enemies and pure mayhem. Only running through and hoping was my survival route.

The experience back to back was so daunting I just never touched it again. I was enjoying the story too but I don't want to restart just to set an easier difficulty tbh. This may go forever unfinished.

Check your vsync settings.

I beat Prey today, clocking in at just a hair under 30 hours. I did a weekend marathon, but had no idea how much more gameplay I had left. I thought the game was a third shorter, but I explored everything, often going off the beaten path to explore other areas of Talos I, rather than follow the main story objectives. I’d love to to do a second play through, but I am exhausted (in a good way)!

I wound up placing both keys and placing the null wave transmitter, figuring that would yield different endings (to which I did save and reload to see both). My first ending was to blow the ship, with Dahl flying me home. I was utterly shell-shocked that the ending was a 10-second video with Morgan saying “I kept having the same dream.”
And then came the bit after the credits.
What a twist!

Arkane Studios has cemented themselves as one of my favorite developers. I loved the Dishonored franchise and to experience this gem has me yearning for whatever comes out their doors next. Bravo!

Im 25 hours in and nearing the finale. Running around trying to complete side quests.

Didnt think I would get this much playtime out of it.

Hate how long loading times are when changing areas on PS4 Pro, especially since I've been backtracking a lot.

Phenomenal game otherwise. I feel like I got to get to know the crew even though I didnt meet most of them. Brilliantly crafted level design, Talos 1 has been a joy to explore every nook and cranny.

Ive come back to this after months and Im really stuck. My save is in front of a locked door to Power Plant, I need a password for the computer. I am on a mission called Reboot. I backtracked for ages and cant find the password for this door. Checked guides but I dont see what I need to do. Anyone rememeber this part?

Try looking for a vent you can crawl through. It should be somewhere high on the right side of the door.

I was gonna forgive the game for the bullshit fucking mimics scurrying around and hopping behind me faster than I can aim or turn around, causing me to make a big gloo mess everywhere except on the thing I was trying to hit. And I was gonna forgive the game for the bullshit fucking bullet-sponge thermal phantoms that are impossible to kill fast enough before they can kill you. But now I just got to the microgravity bullshit fucking cargo tunnel with its garbage movement controls and all the bullshit little homing cysts that are impossible to avoid without them completely wrecking your shit, and I’m thinking now maybe the game is just mechanically not very good. If I ever see a microgravity tunnel ever again it will be too soon.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
So has anyone who has played this on PS4 gotten the No Needles Trophy? The trophy that requires you to complete the game without using a single Neuromod?

You should play it on PC. Controls were great with M+KB. I also dug the zero-grav environments. Newtonian physics are always fun to mess around with.

During a Bethesda Softworks event at PAX East, we met up with Bethesda’s Senior Vice President of Marketing Pete Hines to see if he could shed any light on this Prey situation for us. After taking an aside to talk about his own experience with Prey and how he recently went back to beat it quite recently, he finally gave us a slight tease regarding the game and any future news regarding it. Hines stated:

“As with a lot of stuff, we’re not a massive publisher that just churns out a ton of titles. We never have been. We really stick with our stuff after it launches, as we have with Prey.
Part of what you’ve probably noticed is that we’ve hired a new community manager, who’s been focused on Prey. She’s [Abigail] been awesome and has been doing a lot of fun stuff around April Fools’ and other things.
But yeah, I don’t think you’ve heard the last of Prey. I just couldn’t tell you precisely when you might hear more.”

Pretty sure they're going to tell us more at their E3 conference.
