online you can get one, but I think only the very biggest eletronic stores actually have some physically on shelves. Where I bought my PS5, they have only Sony and Nintendo. Might already have happened there during Xbone era.

The entire gaming section at my local best buy looks depressing. They at least had a PS5 available (no xbox at all) but the software racks had about 10 games spread throughout racks obviously designed to hold hundreds for PS5, and the xbox section was even more anemic.

At this rate we could see a similar situation that Sega had in the west.
In summer 1998 Sega Saturn was completely removed from retail and Sega had no presence until Dreamcast's October 1999 launch.
The public may not have been aware of Saturn's poor sales, but they certainly noticed when Sega just disappeared for a year and a half.

At gamestop they gave me the option of store credit or a MasterCard gift card. I guess they stopped handing out cash. The store credit they offered was more, but I had some non gaming stuff I had to get.

I was thinking about that kinda, actually. Though there is a big difference here: when SEGA ended Saturn in the West, the time between that and Dreamcast they published NO games on console platforms, and while they kept up with arcade releases, arcades were in a big decline by that period.
Microsoft, at least, still have a regular release of games coming between now and whenever those new Xbox devices launch. Yeah they spent $80+ billion to have those games to publish, but they have them in the pipeline. What's more they're publishing those games on more popular platforms like PS5, Nintendo, and Steam.
So, they'll at least very much be able to keep themselves relevant in the mainstream gaming spaces by keeping their profile active on popular platforms. SEGA neglected to do that in the 16 or so months between Saturn to Dreamcast in the West, and they ultimately kind of paid the ultimate price for that longer-term.

General public gets consoles online, at store during special occasions (Christmas, birthday, Black Friday etc.) Facebook marketplace does extremely well with consoles.
And the ROG Ally "xbox" costing 999 USD will be a great deal, the ultimate cost benefit for this lunatic
