Let Miyazaki make the game Miyazaki wants. Fuck checklist development.

Yup, leave the game making to the Legendary Big M

I have not played ds2 yet, is it really bad or just not as good as demons and ds1 animations?

The player character animations are somewhat worse (mainly the running, most attacks look on par with the rest of the series), the enemy animations are for the most part good, boss animations are generally very good. This isn't an exhaustive list; there are probably a few animations that are legit bad, but I'd say for the most part they're just not as good as DS1 rather than straight up terrible.

DeS animations in some instances were the best. For instance with curved swords, the R2 combo (R2+R2) looked badass, especially how the character would play with the sword after the attack.

Also the ultra greatsword class absolutely sucks d*** in Dark Souls and even more in DkS2. Just what happened? How did they go from the godly Dragon Bone Smasher move set to such poor move sets.

What the fuck. I don't understand this post.

What is there not to understand?

The walking animations have been downgraded unfortunately.MC walks/runs as if his/her feet are sliding on the ground. For some reason when you wear some specific leggings this looks even worse (like the Varangian leggings for example).Enemies sometimes are coming to you as if they are floating, and when you do a parry the enemies go from standing in front of you to lying down in the ground as if there are no frames in between. Also sometimes when enemies jump from ledges it looks really bad as if they are animations from a PS2 game.
The movement in general doesn't feel to have the weight it had in the previous two games (regardless of equipment burden).

It's not as good as Dark's and Demon's animations. The walking in DS2 is still floaty. They didn't fine tune the steps and the walking speed and thus it looks a bit like the character is partly floating over the ground. Which really bothers me since the other games had a more solid/grounded feel. Then we have some really weird enemy animations. Looks at the way this creep is walking. Animations in Dark Souls 1 were no way near as bad as this.

Then the little things which just make it apparent that more care and polish has been put in the animation of the first Dark Souls.
Example: Besides your walking speed your running/walking animation will change depending on
-which gender you are
-your equipment burden
-weather you're holding a spear or a sword
-and wheather you're holding it in one or both hands

An insane amount of care has went into the animations of Dark Souls 1. The stuff above is simply not present in the sequel. Proof enough for me that another Team has developed the game.

Edit: Damn grammar

Wow that really sucks, especially the walking animations which were one of the things that I really loved about the series. Hell as soon as I saw the beasts webms it was first thing I looked at and I could not believe how awesome it looked. That swag

Dark is waaaaay more polished than Demon's in the animation department. That's generally what happens with a sequel on a significantly grander development scale.

There are some truly shoddy transition animations in DeS, especially with weapon attacks. Then you have things such as the player's joints behaving funny on uneven surfaces, a lot more clipping issues, etc. All of this was immediately apparent to me after an hour in DeS.

I would say that, from DeS to DS to DSII, From have gone down a more "realistic" path of animation. Compare the rolling and running from DeS to DkSII; that explosiveness is all but gone, replaced with a more momentum-based model. I would call it neither worse, nor better - it is simply different.

EDIT: I probably would agree with DSII having worse movement animation overall. It is sorely missing some nuances, but it does improve on a number of things.

Pretty sure the run animation is different depending on gender in DkS2 as well.

Shit, I haven't played Dark Souls in a while and don't remember the Greatswords. My main weapon in DeS (including the play through I just did, about three years later) is always the Meat Cleaver (though that was technically an axe I guess). Nothing else feels as good to me anymore, lol. Did that kind if thing get nerfed?

I dont understand why people are so hyped over this?

Graphically the PS3 could do something similar and what we have seen it looks like it doing nothing different to lots of games before it.

If people are fans of demon souls and are just hyped because there is a sequel then I understand that.

if a sequel to a game with slightly better graphics is what gets people excited for current gen games, and thats what we're getting, then i'am going to be disappointed. Next gen should be more then just straight sequels with slightly better graphics.

Basically out with the old and in with the new,a new gen should have new games to, and this game does not look new.

are you excited for those Halo games?

also, Souls games have never been about the cutting edge graphics. you're just completely off the mark here man.

You do realize From Soft has never been lauded for their technical prowess right? Besides the look of the Souls games is not what draws its fan base in. Its the world, gameplay, and lore.

This game looks a noticeable step above what we got last gen so I doubt many would complain that it doesnt look "Next gen" enough.

Also we are not sure what this game has in common with Demon's, if anything at all. Id keep your lambasting of sequels in check until we have more information.

This game doesn't look like a straight up sequel to Demon's Souls but rather something different. More like a spin-off. It may even play differently.

And why do you make such a deal out of graphics? Barely anyone here got excited for the graphics of this game.

Besides, have you played any of the Souls games? If you played Demon's or Dark you would understand why people are so excited for a new game by Miyazaki.

I'm glad you're able to determine that from approximately 20 seconds of scattered footage. You don't know what changes have been made yo the mechanics. What if there is a fully fleshed out coop mode? There's so much none of us know and yet you come in here and declare this is the same game with prettier graphics...

That is kinda of my point it works both ways.

Meh, Neogaf must have a lot of ''from software fans'', .

Of course neogaf has a lot of FROM fans ( it would be better to say Souls series fans since FROM other games won't even get a quarter of this hype .)
It's a hardcore series ( still is even if sales gone up) and gaf is a hardcore forum .

The same could have been said for many of current crop of "next gen"(current gen) games when revealed, on either platform.

Yes and no. The excitement has more to do with who is making the game and less to do with what has been seen. What has been seen has merely whet the appetite of many to see more. To utterly dismiss the fact that people are excited to see what Big M is doing with this title and to reduce it to a prettier graphics argument while preaching it is more of the same is nothing less than trolling. More people are talking about the possibilities of what could be with this title and many are hoping it is different from other souls titles in general.

Great thread derail dude, that part about calling everyone out for being defensive of From Soft, then everyone proceeds to needlessly defend From Soft was great.

You know what? You're right... Fuck this game. I'm gonna go play Ryse and KZ: shadowfall, because who cares if the game is boring...

The souls series is fairly unique and is, in my opinion, the best thing to come out of last generation. It's not like we're getting worked up over "just another shooter" or something of that ilk. We're looking forward to the upcoming game from the brilliant imagination of one of the best game directors out there.

And while this may appear to be similar to demon's/dark souls, the change in setting, time period and the introduction of guns looks to shake up the formula. So what if it'll play similarly? Boohoo. I don't see many criticizing the last of us despite sharing a lot of uncharted's game mechanics.

Hummmmmm... jealous?

It is fine not understand the hype ;)

People are hyped about this, the same as people were hyped for Dead Rising 3. Even though it had arguably last-gen graphics, framerate, and gameplay it still sold quite a bit.

Why should people get hyped about anything if everything we see is a 2-minute trailer anyway? Have you ever got hyped about a game? Because you sound like nobody should get hyped about anything.

if a sequel to a game with slightly better graphics is what gets people excited for current gen games

How could we even know about the graphics from those clips? And this game isn't even supposed to be a sequel, but a spin-off

We aren't hyped about the graphics, we're hyped about the fact that From Software's A-Team is making a game
