I tried the default settings with the v8 supercar on Bathhurst in the community event but they didn't work well for me.
I'm now using Super GT's settings and they are much better:

I just tried that event, and all I can say is: respect to those with times under 2:10! And double respect for those using pad!

That community event is only for this weekend. After that you'd have to do time trial, which is set to January (Australian summer with much hotter track temps).

Their stream is a paid subscription service, although on the broadcast today I heard them say the race is being televised in 91 countries, so there's a chance it could be on one of your local TV stations...depending where you are.

Everything without wall-crashes and spinning out under braking using a controller is a miracle lap in my book. I imagine braking in those Mount Panarama corners when your car is bouncing around with that little trigger throw to be absolutely brutal even with ABS on.

I´m doing the challenge, but i haven´t posted yet because i want to find a working setup for this car, so i´ll comment on that.
I´m at 2.06.099 which would be good in any challenge, but considering Gaf has a bunch of aliens racing, it´s still not enough.
I´ve noticed both the top times are using the stock setup, which i´m guessing is the stable one.
I´m making some tweaks to it, and i´ll comment more later.

I was using the 'loose' setup.
It's not that surprising, to be honest. We at LFO Club, with a massively lower pool, have our fair share of aliens as well.
I'm at 2:07.620 now (default setup, real assists, PC with a wheel). My potential is in the high 06s, but I seem to be unable to nail that one perfect lap. 3-4s away from the aliens sounds like my usual wall.

I put the default setup (whatever "reset to default" is. Loose?) back on and immediately went quicker. It's a scruffy looking thing, so hopefully I can find at least a few more hundredths for Mark. I pick up a bunch of tenths every time I have another go, but this one felt like my end is drawing closer.

Oops I completely missed that this was an actual in-game community event. I set it up as a time trial =/ You can cross my time off if that gave me an advantage of any kind.

Tarmac over 50°C in January Australia from the TT-mode might have made you slower even. Can't be much of a difference... either way, if you're not right up there with our local Aliens (doubt they like that term much ;D), your time should stay.
I'm usually pretty quick with a pad, even the last few community events at Knockhill and Sugo I was in the top 300-400 times, but my first clean lap in this one was 2:19...
I think I need to turn assists on for this.

And you should be applauded for having the intestinal fortitude for posting your time; many shy away if they don't post a World Record. As Big posted, it's about having a go and learning where you can improve and not crowning the fastest driver.

Ok cool just wanted to be fair. May give it another go now and see if I can get anywhere below 2:10 like I wanted.
Chase cam would probably get me there because I'm faster that way for some reason but I just don't have half as much fun in that view.

heh thanks. I play for fun. I am stubborn, so no assists/aids and xbone controller. I know many of these competitive racers need to go 20+ laps to really set good times but I like to play a few laps and then try something different (track/car/etc). I just played two laps on the Hotlap Challenge #1 and used a ghost 30+ seconds better and just hit 2:30.209 so if I kept going I could probably improve a ton more.

This challenge is no joke using a controller. Coming from having some great races in the Cayman Cup and some random custom GT3 races where I have been going toe to toe with the AI at 70-75% I thought I found some controller settings that were fantastic.
Then I tried this challenge... 2:16 as my first valid lap. I'm playing with the authentic assists setting but it feels like this car has no assists at all. I think I'll call on some help from the engineering guy, this car oversteers like a pig, might need to soften the car up a bit. I'll probably just turn on some TC and SC to be honest, I think I'm currently going round the track at half throttle for about 50% of the time. Must go under 2:08 with a pad, I will not be defeated.
Anyone looking for some controller settings, use Super GT's that I posted above, but be prepared to be humbled by this challenge.

Just hit 2:23:801 after a few more laps using SuperGT's controller settings. I was using JJohnson4848's settings before.
I don't think there is any shame in using sc and tc for this, or any other challenge tbh.
You might argue it's not realistic, and it isn't, but then again neither is driving a car with an inch of plastic nub.
FWIW, it tried soft and hard slicks, the soft are way slower, probably needs some setup modification, and a single shot lap to get the best out of them.
My original goal was 2:14, WR +10s, so I was happy enough to go sub 2:10.
After 9h playtime (PS4) I can tell that most of the cars suffer from snap oversteer like it was on PC1 . While it somewhat works to go round it by softening the rear there are cars clearly not affected by it at all. For example a stock Huracan GT3 can beat a tuned R8 LMS even while being slower on the straights.
Another thing is that I can't match my times from PC1 so far. A GT3 car should be faster than 2.27 at Spa or 1.53 at Monza :/ But yeah it might be the driver.
BTW the DS4 setup posted few pages back works pretty good.

I am way slower in PC2 than ever was in PC1, I am nowhere near as competitive online, the controller setup is bizarre, at times way worse than pc1. .
Hang on - I thought this was one of the things that SMS said was DEFINITELY fixed in pCARS 2?
Cars are supposed to be much more analogue and progressive this time when exceeding lateral grip?
It's a controller thing I think. Some cars don't play nice with a controller right now while others feel great.
I think the physics are better, but the controller is, in many cases as bad, if not worse.

Having messed around with it with a controller for the last couple of days i would say that it's easier to control most cars with a controller than last time round but your times will be slower. I don't know how that's possible but it seems to be the case.

There's a setting for that, controller damping. It's set so high by default that it's impossibile to control the car. It's a slider that goes from 1 to 100, in pcas1 it was an on/off switch. By default it is set to something crazy like 68 or 70. I play at 7/8 max, otherwise you'll lose ton of control over the car.

Managed to get to improve into the 2:07's with a gamepad, authentic assists on PC. Messed up the final turn which cost me a tenth. I don't think a 2:06 is possible for me.
I bought a used Rift to use with this game. After getting it to run at 90+ fps on my overclocked GTX 1070 and 1.2SS i found out it isn't for me.
I'm having trouble getting over the pixelated picture.
I don't like how it's uncomfortable (compared to not wearing a headset).
The heat and marks on my face after 1+ hour of driving is not exectly brilliant.
It was really immersive in the beginning, but you kinda get used to it, and then just focus on the driving, if you know what I mean? I'm not even faster with the Rift.
Nah, I'm selling it again and going back to my 1440p 144Hz IPS G-sync screen.
Maybe I made up my mind to early, but I don't think it will change.
Hopefylly next generation HMD's will up the resolution and comfort while reducing the weight.

Tried a few more times and managed to get a 2:18:844 time with a Xbox One controller on the PC. I really don't like the controller at all. Feels way too loose on the sticks compared to the Xbox 360 controller.
A few more days and I should be getting my new Thrustmaster T300 Alcantara wheel, can't wait. The controller has no feel or weight to it so you constantly drive on the defensive worrying about losing control and spinning out. I tried the Super GT settings but it's still hard to get any sense of feedback plus the vibration is pretty much useless even at 100%.

I spent the best part of Sunday on setting the Cayman that I could lean on it without the worry of snapping mid corner and I'm still not there yet. And then you drive a Huracan or a TS020 and they don't have that problem at all while being twice as powerful(or more).
There is something going on on the PS4 in general with the physics engine.

If assists were allowed on this challenge, 'authentic assists' on a V8 Supercar would indeed mean 'no assists at all'.
I disagree with these statements...
It is not unreasonable for 'snap oversteer' to exist. There seems to be multiple definitions of the term - lift-off oversteer, snapping back the other way during an overcorrection, or just 'unexpected' mid-corner oversteer of any kind... in any case, I've not experienced an issue with this. There were some odd oversteer characteristics in the original, and this has been (largely) solved. Cars behave with a neutral balance and will bite back if you drive them too hard. I think over-the-limit tyre behaviour on race cars remains too forgiving - or in other words, 'snap oversteer' should be more apparent, not less.
I just compared the Huracan and R8 with 'default everything'. The R8 had a slightly better front end (the Lambo tends towards understeer a little more), but they have generally similar handling characteristics, and were very close in performance.
I tried them both at Spa - they both did 2:20.6, with plenty more time to find. This seems about right.
It is miles better. I also reworked my 'Top 5 VR sims' piece and put it at number 1.

It did it on PC with a wheel. It seems like you dislike the gamepad support, but you are effectively criticising the physics - which are separate things. As far as I know, the PCARS2 physics engine is identical on all platforms. I understand the console versions didn't get the loose/stable setup presets, but this has little effect on the the inherent balance of the cars. I would be surprised if the Huracan and R8 handled differently on PS4...
It is. If it wasn't you couldn't do rallyx. I don't know why someone would say otherwise, but it is the way it is. It seems anybody can say anything negative about PC2 without further proof and bam!, it suddenly is a fact!
