This is what I've been bitching about with GT and Forza for years. Authentic audio? Who gives a rats, make the audio sound exciting like there's a thousand wild cats under the bonnet screaming to get out.

Try the GT5 class and pick the Ford Capri. Oh my gawd, the sound is to die for as your motor screams at redline.

I posted my impressions of the audio and also some suggestions over at the Project Cars forum.

To have the option of exterior samples in the cockpit or a slider or two for engine/exhaust mix because those exterior sounds are absolutely mind blowing!

Also asked for adjustments to AI/player vehicle volume because at the moment I simply find it extremely hard to hear my car even when other cars are pretty far away from me.

Stephen Baysted, the Audio Director at SMS 'liked' my post which could be indication that those suggestions are hopefully implemented in the future..

Good work, Sal. More GAFers need to head there and contribute. The devs are watching and (it seems) are taking comments on board.

This is a no-brainer, imo. I wonder how much work it is to implement. Can't me too much, no?

There are a handful of things that are so absolutely maddening that I have no idea how they could have survived so much development time. A few quick examples are practice/qualifying time expires = instantly ends and flying laps don't count, and absurdly petty lap invalidation for going off-track if you clip some grass/dirt even if all 4 wheels don't go over the white line while on a kerb. That's still officially on the track, dammit!

In about 10 hours of play so far (PS4) I'll say it gets far more right than wrong. After the absurdity that are floating Superkarts and some invitational events of GT5 cars that have no downforce, driving a LMP2 around LeMans was nirvana. Weight, downforce and corner stability/car's center of mass all feel good. There are obvious graphic deficiencies and problems here and there but I haven't run into anything that immediately distracted me from driving.

Really wish there were a driving line option for "corners only" or "braking zones only". I've been spoiled by the red gear warning prompt in GT which has always been -just- enough help for me to keep the driving line off 100% of the time. Don't need that. Just an abbreviated driving line so I can better enjoy the track and environment. The Codemasters F1 games have this down perfectly.

Gen X

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
Yes, but it's an invitational with a specific requirement you have to reach before you get offered it.

Thanks cos I didn't want to do one in single race only to find out there is one in career. Any idea what class car it is? Love to see an only classic race with the GT40s.

Some of the things are utterly baffling, I keep finding new ones, this is a good un.

I was wondering why tyre temperatures and grip was changing from session to session, so a bit of research shows that track temperature is modeled, and changes, but there is no way of knowing what it is, just like the weather, there is no forecast, so you can't adjust your setup to suit.

And on the note of setups, the complete lack of being able to load a setup outside of the garage is bonkers as well.

Thanks cos I didn't want to do one in single race only to find out there is one in career. Any idea what class car it is? Love to see an only classic race with the GT40s.

LMP I believe.

Agree with all of this.

Power the wheel up and put it in PC mode, not PS3 mode.
Start your PS4 and load pCARS using the DS4.
After the splash screens, when prompted to hit 'X' to start, press the 'X' button (or its equivalent) on your wheel.
Use the wheel to navigate the menus and play the game.

Note, there are currently some issues. SMS and Fanatec are meeting this week to seek a resolution and update the game with a fix:

Your wheel, no matter what model, will probably get recognised as a Porsche 911 Turbo wheel.
Despite this, the game currently treats it as a controller, so the full suite of calibration and FFB tuning options are not available.
The clutch is currently gimped.
Button remapping is not saved.
Some other stuff I can't remember.

All of these issues are known and a patch is being prepared.

See this thread http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?21978-Fanatec-Wheel-support

Ah OK! Thanks for the startup instructions. I'll give that a shot.

So yeh, that GT40 is......interesting. I never knew a car could understeer while oversteering at the same time. Getting near the throttle in anything closely resembling a power band is a waste of time, you practically have to run one gear higher and short shift that thing constantly.

Ah great... the "Splanning to do" thread finally went public. Great stuff and I agree, people need to read that.

It should probably be in the OP too.

Yes, it was posted along with this.....

VERY soon the major control and frame rate issues can be solved. Then additional Single-Player (career/AI) adjustments can be introduced as well as some UI changes (font size etc.) and additional ONLINE functionality and stability. New content (I won't say anything specific) will be dropped in continuously (monthly?).

You are correct, SMS is going to support Project CARS 1.0 VERY well, "we are only at the beginning."

You'll see organized events from SMS as well as support for popular leagues. Maybe some cross-over co-marketing with real life motorsports (Audi driver Rene Rast and Nic Hamilton in BTCC are just 2 of the real life drivers that very much support the game).

Getting second never felt so good. Started 8th, made a great start and gain positions and was going to make a run at 1st but decided finishing clean was a smarter choice.

Placing nowhere never felt so good. All of my non-career single-player racing involves starting at the back of a large grid and trying to cleanly climb maybe five places during a ten-lap race. Podiums are for poseurs - being in the middle of a pack is where the real fun is..!
Yeah, this is awesome! It's a consensus to define a game sim or arcade, based on the physics aspect. But honestly, one thing I hate about games considered "arcade" is how much emphasis is put on winning a race to get money and progress your career. Most races on Forza/GT are 2-3 laps, you start at the back of the grid and you're expected to win, which means, you have to set up AI to be much slower than you, or you just ram them into oblivion. I'm perfectly ok with the physics in those games, but the lack of real good battles with AI in the career bore me to death ...

I love that in pCars, you can fine tune AI (hopefully they change the 10 increments in the consoles) and number of laps, so you can have a more realistic race, where you have to qualify, and actually work hard to set up passes! I consider this a sim, regardless of physics (doesn't mean pCars physics is bad in anyway, it's quite good!).

So as a person, who never ever drove anything with an engine. Also never went beyond some casual NFS level fun.
I got the game Friday along with a G27, and have been playing whole weekend mostly (95%) at Spa with the BMW M3 E30 Gr.A. Right away with Pro handling, only using the auto clutch assist.
And I noticed, somehow I did pull a lap with 2.44 sitting 13th at the time on the leaderboards. That highly surprised me.
So far I've barely touched anything but free practice and time trials, I'm actually still learning to drive if one can say that, because in 100 laps I only got 5-10 valid because going off the track even a bit... Now i can go valid laps under 3.00 most of the time.
This feels great. This game is great!!!

Yep, really surprised that the driving line options are 'full' or 'off'
I know about driving lines and where to position myself on the track, when entering and exiting corners but as I'm still learning the tracks I would still prefer to have the driving line on just for corners only to gauge my speed.

Is your driver a cat? Hahahah

There's a good reason for it. No need to wish death on people.

Standard practice for a racing game, any invalidation in the last sector invalidate the following lap.

Thankyou. Frustrating as hell though. Time to git gud.

He could mean a small cliff, with water beneath.

Not everyone can swim. And what about piranhas?

You are of course right. Cliffs are dangerous, kids. Better just stay in and play games.

LOL.

That's a good start, congrats :)

A little more formative experience would be, in my opinion, SMS Formula Rookie at Oulton Park.

Give it a try if you have some spare time. The cars are fun and the track being short is quite easy to learn, but technical and it matches really well with the little formulas rookie.

Loving the game so far on PS4....having huge problems in Karts handling on career mode but the other cars seems to be okay.
This game is about everything i wanted from forza and it never delivered...competitive championships with a true career, awesome tracks, weather and race time controls, good number of laps and customization (screw forza cars painting...).

Awesome game, just need to skip the karts.

Hello all,

I'm sorry if this is old news. I just picked this up and although I have enjoyed the little that I've played (kart one champion, haven't played online yet) there's a couple of things that cheapen the experience. It seems super minor, but it's fully annoying. Once a race is over and the info screen pops up, it does so in one place before correcting itself? and jumps into the centre? This happens maybe 3 times after each race when you go to the next screen/info box.

I haven't had the best look to see anyone else talking about this bug, just what would I google exactly? I'm having a hard enough time explaining it now, but I haven't seen it mentioned at all. Is it just me/my ps4/my tv/my set up? Or is everyone getting this? It does my head in (it doesn't take much)

Also, not really a complaint but the top left. Small blue avatar box. Can this be changed?

Ta for any info. Also I don't have many ps4 buddies if you'd like to throw me a bone. I believe I'm mr_lakitu

Karts handle like shit, they just do, twitchy little fuckers.

Some cars also really difficult to control compared to others. Cars with a lot of aero don't tend to be much of an issue, but some of the other race cars that are more mechanical grip orientated can be a handful.

Love the AI in this.

Had a close race the whole time and the cpu battled me for the pass in the final turns.

Never had this in forza or f1 really.

I'm not noticing any brake fade on the road cars. Shouldn't this happen like real life?

Project CARS actually simulates iron, carbon and ceramic brakes of various configurations. But in game the road cars are specified as if they were slightly track-prepped for the brakes. 99% of road car brakes are complete toast after only a few minutes of hard driving and representing this faithfully would quickly become a frustrating experience. Imagine that the cars have been modified with better brake-pads/-lines/-fluid and maybe a little bit of extra cooling to allow them to be just that little bit more suitable for being tracked hard.
Look at this SIMCADE BULLSHIT!
I jest

I have a newfound respect when I read about some of the stuff I wasn't even aware they were simulating; neat.

I've just left the Le Mans 24h race to go to work and put the AI in my place. The idiot has just crashed and smashed the headlights at night! Thank god it'll be light when I'm back hahaha

http://www.twitch.tv/azzawon

Taking some interesting lines that I would struggle to manage without spinning, too...

Haha, god damn, AI endurance racing and streaming is fucking brilliant! Thank you! :D

This is an amazing idea! Your AI has some crazy night vision.

Yep. People forget that consistently winning races is not an authentic motorsport experience for the vast majority of competitors. Games like Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport (with their reward-based progression) have brainwashed gamers into thinking winning is the only thing that matters, and often to the detriment of the entire experience. I've no doubt there are swathes of people playing pCARS who are quitting on the last lap and restarting because they're not leading the race, or racing with much weaker AI than is appropriate for their skills so that victory is assured.

These people are completely, entirely missing the whole point of Project CARS.

Nooo, the game got downloaded and installed overnight overnight, tried out a first race, solo audi r8 v10 plus in dubai with stock amateur settings and the car would steer left and right like a person behind the wheel is racing under the influence of alcohol. Had a hard time, edited the control controller settings as posted in a couple of pages before, chose the lykan hypersports and started a timelap session in norscheldiefe ,, everything was uncontrollable uncontrollable, the moment my finger hit r2, I just couldn't drive it on a straight line. Help me out GAF, can't wait to return back home from work to give a proper go

Man the AI in this game is delicious. They will fight for their spot compared to most racing games where the AI is like "no after you". I give it to SMS, they really know how to make the AI play a huge factor in a racing game, unlike most racing games where the racing feels like driving past Sunday drivers.

If you're a racing fan you'll want the wheel. Trust me.

I've been a huge video game racing fan since Gran Turismo 2. Never had a wheel until recently. No idea how I can ever go back to a racer without the wheel.

Get a solid force feedback. You wont regret it.
