Why the long case?
Money talks and last I heard it was doing preyed well for being r rated.
I am going to continue to hope.
Though, I was amazed at the amount of people in my theater I spoke to, who had never seen the originals.

I really liked how we never knew more than the characters. And given that the film dealt with issues like the entire purpose of human life, that is how it should be.i don't see the motivations of the engineers as clear at all. there's lots of speculation by the characters but nothing definite laid out, which is my preference, really.
a crab lays an egg in your gut and out of it bursts a giant humanoid insect with acid blood and murderous instinct. Makes perfect sense. The problem is that while Alien has a clear explanation for the creature (the evolution makes sense from what we know about life),
Why were the engineers running and ended up dying at that door? Was it the black ooze and if so what creature or thing from the black ooze made the engineers afraid?

The issue is that the engineers are shown to do specific things (create life on Earth, do whatever they did on that planet, plot a course back to Earth). These things don't make sense in the context of the film, not as backstory or ultimate motivations.

I wish the engineer talked with Shaw and David instead of going psycho on some people he never seen before.
The best thing about Prometheus: it proves Ridley Scott’s still got it. The worst thing: it proves our worst fears about Damon Lindelof
He thought they were all repellent robot scum like David. His species' love of life made them hate robots.

do we know for sure any of this stuff? a lot of it is supposition fed to us by prometheus crew members who are flipping shit.
there are animals on earth that lay eggs inside other animals to breed, and there are animals that transform radically (for example from a caterpillar to a butterfly)
obviously it's been amplified for the horror effect, but there's nothing in it that conflicts with what we know about life
I thought something like this too. He's peaceful before he touches david. Then presumably he noticed the dude was a robot and flipped his shit.He thought they were all repellent robot scum like David. His species' love of life made them hate robots.
considering that the crew members usually have opposing viewpoints too, probably not. I think their ultimate motivations are still vaguedo we know for sure any of this stuff? a lot of it is supposition fed to us by prometheus crew members who are flipping shit.
We were never truly sure what David said to the last engineer, right? he could have said anything to enrage him, maybe nothing to do with what Shaw or Weyland wanted him to say.
It was a whole nother language he was speaking without subtitles iirc, so who truly knows? David did have his own agenda for pretty much the entire film.Wait...I thought he was saying something about stopping Weyland from dying?
I did not even think twice, seeing as though this was his whole intent.
My theory is they were running from that Engineer that stumbled and who got his head cut off. It would explain why he was so clumsy and also the goo found on his head later. He was infected and like Fifield, he was super strong and resistant. So what they did was cut his head off using the door mechanism similar to how they parked a truck on Fifield's head.

One person's world building is another person's " DUMB PLOT HOLES " I suppose.
I didn't mind all the stuff that was left unexplained because I eprsonally thought it added to the mystique of the whole thing.... seems other people are more eager to just have the movie beat them over the head with everything in it. It wouldn't make sense for the characters to understand all the shit they find so why should the audience know as well?
Bet if there was an active internet forum when Alien was released the posts online would look the same as these.
Maybe but those films (particuarly the first) don't explain shit either. Alien tells you nothing about the xenomorph, the spaceship they find it on, the eggs in the basement, the engineer dude sitting in the chair, the company, the computers, or anything else for that matter. You don't even really know what the thing killing them looks like until the end, let alone how it grows so quickly or what it's doing with anyone it takes.
Plus, at that point I think he knew he wasn't simply sick, but infected in a way that was mutating him. What was happening was physical at that point. He knew he couldn't be saved, so there was no point risking anyone's life in the interest of his own.
Yea, after realizing that David's intention was to create life of his own, to be a father, all the shit where he didn't remark on Shaw surviving made sense. It was all his idea, really. Weyland just wanted to meet the creators. David wanted to BE a creator, regardless of the costs.
What was up with the Face hugger ancestor towards the end of the film? I do not understand why they made that thing so huge.
Out of curiosity, are there any theories on how the more leathery eggs came into existence? Does Ridley plan on making another one?
Said it twice now. The script is terrible, absolutely terrible. But you just can't push all the blame on to it. He could of had a climax between the Jockey and Naomi. He didn't. He could have dropped something, cut something, added something, basically something to salvage it. But he didn't.
What other alternatives are there for him speaking to the engineers? David was the only one who could really read anything written by them in the movie. He had a lot of intimate knowledge and was known not to share that information with his fellow shipmates. There's a lot going on Therese could extrapolate a shit ton from.

2 years by himself gave him quite a compelling jump off point. None of the human characters in the film saw him as more than a tool, but they never made the connection that he grew to be so much more during their stasis. I'm not even sure Weyland understood.Ah, alright.
I love that they gave David the ability to think enough for himself to behave the way he did in this movie. I can't quite explain why I think this was a good decision, but it just felt superior to Ash in my opinion. I would never shit on the original though.
This movie sort of makes sense when you realize David had his own agenda.

I find it hard to blame David for anything. Almost all of the characters (except Shaw, who he kinda helps/saves in the end), treated him like shit.

The complaining about Noomi's acting is really annoying. The only character that got on my nerves was Elba.

Old? Ridley confirms it was Jesus' death that made the Engineers want to kill us.

Totally agree with you here. And the only thing I'd need to verify that, is if the aliens all piled up WEREN'T exploded from just the chest, but exposure from the black stuff. They were infected, so the 1 engineer survivor locked himself in that room.
They were trying to get to him. Would explain the lack of Xenomorph bodies/facehuggers/any other bodies inside the ship.

Only thing is, why did they fail to leave the planet? Last thing we see is one of them piloting, choosing to go to Earth, the others going to sleep. But then it looks like the ship never left and the pilot just went to sleep or left.
Yeah it's likely the same ones who go in the ship afterwards to leave right? It would explain why their bodies were not in the tomb room: they left afterwards.
