Protesting the Inauguration of Donald Trump

Where are you at? You've convinced me lol, we can go protesting together

I think I only convinced myself in the process of reading and replying to this thread! Didn't mean to jump down your throat with that first response there.

Whats up with people NOT watching the inauguration ? This is akin to Obama's inauguration, when many I know said "Fuck that socialist Obama, I don't want to listen to anything he has to say"

It feels so one sided to me, very "us against them". While I do think Trump is a piece of shit, not hearing what he has to say is pretty ignorant.

Trump is very insecure about the entertainment aspect of his inauguration. From the D-list performers scheduled to whatever the eventual ratings will be. I'd like to not give him a view based on that alone.

Second, his fucking voice and delivery. I can read his words when necessary, but I'd like to avoid hearing and seeing him speak whenever possible. If he says anything new or noteworthy we'll all likely read about it regardless. I've heard enough from him verbally for the last eighteen months and frankly, I've already had enough.

The man has the biggest platform the world and won't ever shut his loud mouth. You already know what he's going to say or more likely will hear about it after words. People aren't protesting because the partisan side they are on demands them to. They are protesting (by denying him ratings and piss him off) because they believe him to be a vile man not because he happens to be a Republican (which he barely is)

I have a bad feeling that bad things are gonna happen.

This.

He has been democratically elected, Americans have to respect that and try to win back in four years if they're not happy with him.

I wonder what the reaction would have been, had Ms. Clinton won the election and republicans decided to protest.

You want us to just sit back for the next 4 years while he and his administration alongside the newly strengthened GOP cause damage that could (will) last for decades? This doesn't even have to be about how half the country didn't respect Obama the past 8 years, if this was any other Republican candidate (Aside from Cruz) you wouldn't be seeing the fear that Trump is causing on this level at all. He is incompetent, thin skinned, a liar, a crook, and now the most powerful man in the world. Hell, more people voted for Clinton anyway, if that doesn't tell you that maybe the system needs to be at least looked at idk what else to tell you.

The only, I repeat ONLY thing you can compare to Obama's initial presidency is the Not My President thing and that is because those exact words were used against Barack the Islamic Shock. I was fine with the message, but hated the words.

Now on to your post, at this point it is very hard to listen to people who support a man who is racist, sexist, a sexual assaulter, a misogynist, an imbecile, a buffoon, and an internet troll. It is hard to listen when this man puts people who were deemed too racist for the 80s and 90s in positions of power. It is hard to listen when stupid decisions are made BEFORE his inauguration, sorry if I won't listen.

I hope he's a good Pres, but I ain't hedgin my bets.

We already saw that when President Obama got elected. It's kind of ironic how so many people were expecting Republicans to be the ones to riot, and then it didn't exactly turn out that way. It puts the "holier than thou" "how dare Trump suggest that his supporters might riot" concern posting in a different light.

We've got a lot of work ahead of us.

America just doesn't have a culture of protesting, by white people, when it comes to the government

I was watching CNN and some former European leader mentioned that he's shocked millions having been marching 24/7 since the election at Washington DC, something that would've happened in a France or any European nation. The president lost by 3 million popular votes and there is now support that Russia successfully disrupted the election process with a clear favoritism towards Trump lol. There were those NYC protests that lasted a couple days, as I predicted it would fizzle the second it got a little cold

For me, ratings. I'll listen to what he says, but not live. His TV exposure good or bad is what got him there in the first place, I'm not adding to that.

How do ratings work?
I dont think you watching it live is going to add a tick in how many people watched Trumps inauguration.

Wearing all black is a really good idea.. I think I'll do that to work as well. I'm also attending a protest/march in my city the following day.

What a backwards attitude to have.

Mmmm a sweeping "fuck white people" generalization. good stuff lacy green. white people suck /s

She's one of the more popular feminist activists on social media/youtube right up there with Anita Sarkesian and Amber Rose. Not just "some lady"

I'll be doing what I did for the past 4 inaugurations....protecting everyone's right to protest, no matter the issue. I hope everyone going stays safe. There are a lot of people out there looking to stir shit up on both sides of the debate.

Ordinarily I'd say it's probably not worth the hassle, but you just know how much the very idea of it would get under Trump's skin. That in itself would make it worth it.

dumb tweet

Why are you using the word "riot"? This thread is not about rioting.

I might check out what's happening at the US Embassy in Prague. They got an inauguration party. Maybe I should sign up and see how it goes. The leader of the embassy is a cool guy.

"The inauguration of Donald Trump"

Fuck me, I'm not going to believe it till I see it. Twilight Zone stuff indeed.

Will Putin be there? (lol)

Apples to oranges on what are going to put boots on the ground in DC regardless when discussing Clinton to Trump.

You're talking about people currently prepping to protest a man who has advocated stopping immigration for specific nationalities, stop and frisk, internment and has an amazingly awful record with women.

Versus what?

A moral indignation against a potential threat of supposed corporate greed? What realistically would people be protesting if Clinton passed? Certainly not against the potential threat of their civil rights being shuttered. Seems like a shitty line to draw when you're comparing what might have been versus what will be in two days.

you guys sound EXACTLY like all republicans did in 2008 :\
(And again I HATE Trump)

Fuck em.

They were against Obama because he was a secret Muslim socialist that was going to bring sharia law. Trump beat the racist birther drum.

I'm against Trump because the GOP is going to tear down progress and civil rights out of hatred and spite. Anti global warming, anti regulations, but make America great again.

He's not my president and I don't care to even listen to anything the other side wants to say. Us vs them.

What exactly about Trump's character leads you to believe that he will say anything poignant during his inauguration.

I should remind you that this is the same man that just spent this past MLK weekend whining on Twitter about a civil rights leader and throwing shade at a sketch comedy show.

I'm not watching the inauguration, I'm not seeing the televised death of decency in the country.

I'm not calling him "President Trump" either. I got plenty of names. Orange Asshole, Comrade Cheeto, Lying Shitsack, Ill-tanned Manbaby, Thinskinned Fuckwad, plenty of extremely descriptive names I can use. He's not my president and never will be.

This eerily reminds me when conservatives refused to call Obama president.

I don't support Trump, but this kind of attitude isn't helping anyone.

If Trump has something to say, he will say it on twitter. His speeches are barely comprehensible, as he can't express a coherent thought of more than 140 characters.

There's also a big difference between your two examples. "Fuck that socialist Obama" is an objective lie with no basis in reality. Most reasons for being disgusted with Trump have to do with things he has actually said, many times, over and over, and his own well documented lies.

Also, there are legitimate reasons to not view Trump as legitimate based on actions he and his party have taken combined with him losing the popular vote, plus the advisors Trump has surrounded himself with and strong circumstantial evidence that he could be an actual traitor beholden to a foreign power.

The only reason for questioning President Obama's legitimacy was based on a single racist lie, heavily promoted and popularised by the current president elect.

There's really no legitimate "both sides" comparison, imo.

I won't be watching the inauguration to start. In fact I think I'll get the cliffs notes on all of his conferences and addresses after the fact from print news. I want to hear his voice as little as possible these next few years

My goal too. I don't want to hear the man's voice before the first presidential debate of 2020.

Edit: I'll be in the thick of the DC Women's March on Saturday.

Trump draws the line with me for his anti-Global Warming stance.

I can get over people having political differences. But what I can't tolerate is someone who is spreading anti-science BS.

So him being democratically elected takes a back seat to the fact that he's willing to lie about science and take part in destroying the planet.

I'm not interested in helping anyone.

What the racist fuckwads were doing against Obama was out of closeted or overt racism. What I'm doing is reciprocating Trump's vile hatred and a general desire to maintain my mental health. I'm not gonna entertain anyone's bullshit, not even someone who managed to weasel his way into the presidency via hatred and corruption.

He antagonized a minority group that I'm a part of for political points and destroyed the conversations that were happening at the time.

Fuck.

Him.

Yes we need to respect the sexist bigot who will cause untold pain to minorities such as myself and set American progress back by years, if not decades.

Oh wait.

No we fucking don't.

No one needs to respect Trump, you just need to respect the democratic process even when it throws up an unbelievably shitty result. And then work like hell to counter whatever his administration does, to win the next elections and to make your country better.

It's definitely not about respecting Trump.

(EDIT: I'm not saying don't protest him and his policies - by all means do so and loudly, I'm just saying don't protest the fact that he got elected and will be inaugurated.)
