Protesting the Inauguration of Donald Trump

"Both sides tho" is probably one of the most irritating things ever, to be honest.

Which is probably why people are so quick to do it in threads like this.

I'm not watching the inauguration, I'm not seeing the televised death of decency in the country.

I'm not calling him "President Trump" either. I got plenty of names. Orange Asshole, Comrade Cheeto, Lying Shitsack, Ill-tanned Manbaby, Thinskinned Fuckwad, plenty of extremely descriptive names I can use. He's not my president and never will be.

You have my sword. Fuck him. I'll never acknowledge him.

Will be working from home in order to avoid protests or assorted shenanigans in the long commute home.

I expect to get drunk and spend the night in denial and distractions, with a tinge of dread.

After that I'll be ready for the fights ahead.

I remember when conservatives called Obama a socialist, a Muslim, and many other horrid things and kept shouting "Not my president!" .

I remember because I happened to see such protest in my first visit to the US back in 2009.

Right. I think my larger point was, if you support Trump, own it. vehn said he/she was going to cheer on the president. Fine. Have fun. At least they own it. I'm so tired seeing people that continually remind us how they don't like Trump or support him, taking the high ground in threads that are perfect for it. You don't see them posting in threads where you out right can't defend the shit Trump does. It's just the ones where they feel they can look better than a liberal. Meanwhile they never call out Trump or any conservatives for the shit they say daily, but if random neogaf user says something ridiculous it's "see guys, both sides are the same".

If you're gunna protest why not protest by getting involved in local elections and trying to change things? Trump barely won and he certainly didn't win by majority. GET. INVOLVED.. NOW. Before the next elections.

Why not both, basically. I'll do both as I think they are both worthy actions. You're not wrong though, but then the kind of people that take to protesting are likely the kind of people that will vote. Passionate folks.

Here, let me assist:

whoops, I posted some whiny ass little bitch from 2012 not accepting Obama as his president.

Weird, it's like he vocally protested the very conditions he was elected under (which he was mistaken about at the time of his tweet), and yet we're not supposed to call him out as a giant fucking hypocrite? Huh, funny that.

I'll be watching it after the fact so I don't contribute to ratings, since he actually cares about that shit.

Lol thank you. Yet he'll call the protestors a disgrace and UnAmerican. Just you wait. Piece of caca.

Why can't people do both? Like a lot of people plan on doing...

That is just about the most passive way to "distance" yourself from something, if even that much could be said about it. I mean, even the headline of the article you linked qualifies Trump's statements as not disavowing the anger of the white nationalists' message, just the content. What does that even mean?

I don't want the Orange Elitist to win a second term. Republicans are already plotting what they'll do with unlimited power. You should be afraid. People like Cruz and Pence are the future of the Republican party.

Fuck em.

They were against Obama because he was a secret Muslim socialist that was going to bring sharia law. Trump beat the racist birther drum.

I'm against Trump because the GOP is going to tear down progress and civil rights out of hatred and spite. Anti global warming, anti regulations, but make America great again.

He's not my president and I don't care to even listen to anything the other side wants to say. Us vs them.

and this country will always stand divided :(

How many of you protesting are getting paid by Soros?

/s By the looks of this thread I wouldn't be surprised if the whole inauguration turns into a fist fight.

Also here is what to expect:

I'll wear black to work but otherwise I'm sitting this thing out. I've been embroiled in politics enough the last couple of years, so I'm tuning out for at least one day.

Also, I'm not keen on attending any protests. I live in a large city and large crowds are an invitation for trouble, especially regarding this topic. I admire those going out there, but my survival instinct tells me to sit this out for now.

I'll retweet some dumb ass Trump tweets as I'm sure there will be a million of them going around. As in tweets mocking him. Not his actual tweets. Although they are pretty much "dumb ass Trump tweets".

This.

He has been democratically elected, Americans have to respect that and try to win back in four years if they're not happy with him.

I wonder what the reaction would have been, had Ms. Clinton won the election and republicans decided to protest.

I can't believe people still think that the US is democracy. Spoiler alert: it's not. It's a representative government or in other words a republic. The last election actually demonstrated how undemocratic the US government system is. If it was a democracy Clinton would be the president and not Trump.

And this 10x. The fact remains that a lot of people didn't vote and I am willing to bet that a lot of those people are on GAF too. Younger people need to start to become more motivated with politics because it's not just going to affect them, but many people.

A candidate that I want didn't win = The US is undemocratic.

Right.

I think it would be a bigger protest if nobody showed up.

Not even Donald.

It wont surprise me if Trump just asked for his attorney to show up instead.

"Donald cannot attend this inauguration ceremony today. Instead, he has chosen me to read this boring 5 hour long speech he prepared talking about the importance of the Trump™ brand and why you must invest in Trump™ infrastructure."

Will someone who is going to this shitshow please bring a huge print of that 2012 Trump tweet?

Right.

Well I'm one to say that what happened WAS democratic. It's a damn shame, but it is what it is. It's the same system that's been in place for a very long time now.

That said, I don't have to agree with it an that more people voted against him further strengthens my resolves that many share my beliefs on this man.

Soros and Evilore are footing my tab at the local gay club. Cheers boys xo

Yes really. That's literally the alt-right sentiment. "This is our country. We aren't racist we just want you to go to your own country."

That's not enough to say that Bannon is anti-Semitic though. All the things I heard about Bannon being Anti-Semitc are allegations at best.

A candidate that I want didn't win = The US is undemocratic.

Right.

The funny thing about it is that it was Trump who bitched and moaned about the electoral college being a scam the whole way through the election, and that it should be done away with. Yet that system is what won him the election. He's been pretty quiet about doing away with it since.

As i mentioned in another thread, down here there's a large of expats and retirees from the US and they're organizing their own protest this saturday:
Trump ‘Backlash’ rally coming to Ajijic plaza

While thousands of activists are mobilizing across the United States in support of the Women’s March on Washington set for the day after Donald Trump’s inauguration, Lakeside Progressives for Action are winding up for a parallel Backlash Begins rally to be held Saturday, January 21 in Ajijic.

The march on the U.S. capital city is aimed at putting the incoming Trump administration and other elective officials on alert that a rising coalition intends to push hard over the next four years in defense of human rights and social justice issues.

The grass roots movement was spawned by the president-elect’s divisive campaign rhetoric that fueled open sentiments of bigotry, racism, white supremacy, sexism, homophobia and xenophobia among sectors of the U.S. electorate. Participants in mass marches planned in Washington, D.C., other major U.S. cities and points around globe will also speak out against Trump’s stands on trade, immigration and climate change policies and his choices for key cabinet posts.

The local Backlash Begins rally will start at the Ajijic plaza, 2 p.m., followed by a march to the waterfront Malecón for several short speeches and a symbolic protest act. The event has already been authorized by local authorities who will provide security and emergency medical support.

The call is out for volunteers needed for support in logistics and communication tasks. Contact organizers through Lakeside Progressives for Action on Facebook.

I do believe the Electoral College should be dissolved, or at least reworked in someway.

We aren't a true democracy when it comes to picking the president. That is a simple fact. Otherwise Hillary would have won by 3 million votes.

It's an attempt to give small states with less voice, more of a voice.

I'm not sure that's exactly fair either. More people in this country wanted Clinton. We are all in the same country states be damned. So I agree, the system is not a perfect democracy. But, it is what it is and he won fair and square (considering the system not outside influences and what have you, that's a different debate).

Now I protest and hope he causes his own demise. The angrier he gets, the more likely.
