Protests against Trump in NYC and other cities

Haha here comes the "you lost get over it" posts

Brexit 2.0 indeed.

Actually, this does differ from Brexit in one way... in this election the majority lost.

As for the protests, I say good on them. As long as it's non-violent it's their right to protest. Trump's a misogynistic, racist bully, I could get behind protesting him.

You did jack shit to stop Trump and you fucking know it.

I fucking did. I voted in both the primary and the election, and my parents/I drove people to the fucking polls. And we still lost! What the fuck else do you want me to do?

I'm a black Nigerian immigrant who knows if Boko Haram ever pulls a 9/11 my ass is going to be gone even though I'm a naturalized citizen living her for fourteen years. I will scream and fight every step of the way, along with voting. Protesting and Voting are both my god-given right.

Sad that none of these protestors listened to Hillary and Obama's message today about the beauty of America's democracy. The war is over. Trump is our president elect. We must accept this and unify in order to get things done and be one.

America's democracy is a broken mess. There is no "unifying" under the elected GOP government, we are powerless while they ruin our lives and our futures.

The only positive I've taken from this is that this country is up for grabs between volatile groups - and I don't want to raise my daughters in a place run by a guy who thinks women are his playthings.

I'm gonna make as much damn money as I can and GTFO of here.

I guess people are the one not accepting the results.
#rigged

I had a hard time upon waking up. I was really angry. I had an argument with a Trump supporter friend of mine who did not even vote for him. She voted for Johnson. But she did say that a lot of people voted for Trump only because the hate Hillary. I also know friends who voted for Trump because they do not like Hillary, but they never expected Trump to win. Well guess what fucko, votes add up and if half the country had the same though guess what happens.

Anyways, it's over now. I'm good. I accepted it. He's the president. It is what it is. All we can do now is try to survive and do better in 4 years.

Nobody came out and say "I choose Trump as the president!!"...the people chose him. People actually went to the polls and voted. While these people go out and rant, all the people who voted for Trump are laughing their asses out.

You did jack shit to stop Trump and you fucking know it. You want some fucking change? Then go vote in the local elections. FFS we've lost big fucking time. Instead of wasting time protesting, we should be focusing on how to rebuild the DNC and Democratic party.
You can do both, man.

I'm supportive of peaceful protest, but this will accomplish nothing. Trump isn't magically going to say 'Hmmm... all those protestors in states that didn't vote for me anyway came out to complain. Guess i"m going to give up and hand it to Hillary now!'

When the time comes, protest the policies. Protesting the results of an election won fair and square is a waste of effort.

Alot of people are saying we won't have unity with this president. Why don't we wait and let him get to office and see how it works, not giving them a chance is showing opposition to even see their official offer.

Yes, unity is going to come from the party that ran on and was rewarded for unprecedented obstructionism. The party that racially antagonized the first black president for years about his birth place. The party that is now lead by a kkk backed candidate that ran on hatred and rolling back civil rights of millions of people. The party who's VP believes in torturing people to convert them from homosexuality. And global warming isn't real.

Yeah, just give them a chance.

The tea party held rallies and protests, were organized, and methodically took the country from the ground up. I wish we were that organized.

Then perhaps its up to the Supreme Court and Legislative branches to change the system but to demand a change of the system based on an unpopular vote is disrupting our system and will create a larger issue.
Well, when else are people going to be most motivated to push for a change in the system then when it has just failed them? The Supreme Court and Legislative branches aren't going to make any changes to the EC anytime soon, especially with the incoming Republican SC, Senate, and House, so it is the responsibility of the people to make sure that their voice is heard and to push for change. 63% of Americans support doing away with the electoral college (and that's from well before this election).

It can still be a powerful statement. Seeing the bodies, seeing the volume of people against him, is more emotionally resonant than reading numbers off a list.

How surprising, people don't actually understand protests. Not like Black Lives Matter didn't prove to us that there's no right way to bring up the issues you have publicly. Fuck outta here.

This seems so stupid to me. Your candidate, if you voted at all, lost the electoral vote. Do your thing I guess.
I voted Clinton and was sick to my stomach all day over it.

Shouldn't they have done this like 3 days ago if that was what they were after?

Should've could've etc etc. The civil rights movement should've happen in the 1800s. The fact is, people don't move until they are pissed off enough. There has to be an impetus to get off their asses. And the fact that a moron like Trump got elected is impetus enough.

MARCH MARCH MARCH.

And do it again. and again. and again.

... or do like a lot of people in this thread in their narrow sighted view of protests are suggesting and accept your fate and lay down. And then ask yourselves again in 2024 why everything still sucks and why no one has a voice and why corporations pay their way into power.

You can't rebuild or change a political party without social movements. To build those you need to protest and the sooner everyone gets started on that the better.

This is naive. I wonder how many of these people voted..

Time for unity as Obama and Hil said

Obama and Clinton need to insure the peaceful transfer of power, without that we're done as a nation.

The rest of us? The rest of us can protest all we want. It's not our job to make sure Trump takes office with the nation behind him, that's his job.

You do know she had more votes

He won fair and square. People have to get over that and start planning on the midterms and local elections and then the next presidential race again. Time to hold the dems in office accountable and make sure they do not bend over like they did when the GOP had the 3 branches under W. We have been here before and we know how to take it back.

Good for them. I hope it doesn't stop after tonight.

Peaceful protest is inherently democratic and a powerful statement.

A lot of people said Occupy would accomplish nothing. But it at least brought the issue of money in politics to the forefront. Do you think Clinton would have even had a policy against Wall Street without that movement? Did it pay off? Obviously not. But the issue is out there, it's illuminated and it at least has a CHANCE.

Who gives a crap. Let these people come together and vent. (and it's always the right time, those policies are coming and we can't do shit to stop it)

He is project to win. He hasn't actually won, election isn't concluded until mid December.

The EC has never gone against the vote, and the US has never before elected a cartoon villain... and yet here we are!

Protests are democracy

You're right. There are multiple levels of a democracy.

I'm sorry, do you have a problem with them using their right to protest as a nice "fuck you" to our newly elected national embarrassment? You think that is somehow hypocritical?

Did I say that? I'm just interpreting their message.

You do know she had more votes

I don't know how this is relevant what I said but I'll bite. It doesn't matter that's not how our election system works.

In my town its the opposite, we have assholes launching fireworks in celebratory fashion.

Ugh, in a Blue state but live in a Red District. :(
Last night once it became clear Trump was leading, beyond pushing wind and a storm through the trees, came the punch of rifle fire in the air.
