PS Vita TV coming to West as Playstation TV, $99

It was a good idea to ditch the Vita name, you don't want to confuse customers, and if they market this right and get PS Now off the ground they can paint it as a $99.99 streaming system that plays PS3 games.

Sony really dislikes the Vita. Won't even call it a Vita TV when it runs on Vita OS...

Dissociating it from the Vita brand is the best approach they could have taken.

Atolm has it right. If they want retailers to stock it in decent quantities, dissociating it from the Vita brand is probably a necessary step.

I still don't think it'll sell, but hey, with PS Now support, I could be wrong.

Nows I gotta give the systems library a more serious glance. Still can't think of a single game out for it that I'd want (retail-only!!). PS Nova when?

btw Can it play fanslated PSP games like Type-0 like the Vita proper apparently can?

I can't help but feel like they're sending PSTV to die if they don't figure out the UI issues the Verge, Engadget, etc. reported in their reviews (mainly, it's a touchscreen interface transplanted to a giant screen without touch capabilities) and the weird Vita pseudo-compatibility. Like, who is it really for? Is it aimed at families as, say, a competitor to the Wii Mini? (Do they even sell the Wii Mini still?) Or AppleTV/Fire TV, which probably have more elaborate ecosystems for media at the cost of worse game ecosystems?

They could throw us a bone and allow multiple accounts on this one.

And on Vita as well as an extension, since they use the same firmware.

In fact, with the PS4 allowing multiple accounts and not PS TV, I hope more people will start asking for multiple account support when they realise this (since PS TV is also being marketed as a Remote Play extension for PS4)

Can I get the Japanese games on it too? If so, might bite.

The japanese Vita TV is locked to approved Vita TV games so its possible the EU/US versions will have locking only to regional releases. I guess we'll have to wait and see if they push a firmware update to them to increase the playable game list.

I don't need one, but I'll buy one. Just to make you develop more Vita games, Sony. (though I know I won't change anything)

Really excited for this. Checked the compatibility list, and the japanese versions of every vita game i'm interested in is compatible. So if the western counterparts aren't already, they probably will be. Looks like i won't have to buy an actual vita now.

I was on the fence to get another PS Vita 2000, but seems this is the final nail to thr PS Vita coffin. Playstation TV, is too late to the scene. Should've arrived here ages ago to North American shores.

The Japanese version only allows you to use Japanese accounts with the system so we have to wait and see if they change how that works when it comes to the west.

Helloooo Hakuoki! Get on this Aksys, unless its just the same exact story mode for the 4th(?) time~

Does it allows for multiple accounts like PS3/4 or is it just 1 per memcard like the Vita?

Why does this mean the Vita is dead? Wouldn't it translate in more support for the plataform?

The Vita name was very unfortunate, good riddance, too bad its too late to change its name to PSP 2.

I wonder if this will count against your PSN account since you can only have 2 Vita's activated per account? Or is it something considered completely separate? I already have 2 Vita's.

I would assume that it works just like the Vita.

I'm happy with my Fire TV as my streaming device, but I might be interested in this to play some old PS1 games, as well as PS3/4 games via PS Now (if that's truly an option). I've never had a PS3 and don't really feel overly compelled to buy one (nor a PS4) since I'm not really big on games anymore, but I wouldn't mind getting to try certain titles I've missed. I can't really think of any Vita games I'd be interested in, though, to be honest. :|
