PS1 Appreciation/Collectors Thread of Ugly-Ass Polygons

Very nice.

Got this gem today for free super hyped.

would you be interested in flipping it for a 20$ profit? ;D

Congrats!

**Is there a good list of JP-exclusive (or PAL exclusive, for that matter) PSX games? I've looked around and there are some good threads on the matter on different forums, but it's usually really shooter-heavy, and the games that aren't shooters are the same handful over and over. I'm interested in some lesser-known action/platformer/puzzler/adventure games.

No I wish actually. Wife's uncle died and this was sitting in his collection along with a ton of sport games. No idea if he even knew what he had.

Sorry about the uncle! At least a great game like that didn't get trashed or given away. :)

Speaking of which, I'm pretty happy about this $20 purchase that showed up today.

Zanac X Zanac

Nice list. I'll add in a few more PAL exclusives that I bought recently: Space Debris, V2000 and Viper. Also have Terracon and Hybrid too.

Space Debris is pretty awesome, amazed it never made it over to the states.

Zanac X Zanac was released on PAL?

Either way, it's not a PAL exclusive. It came out in Japan.

It wasn't.

Also some good PAL titles that didn't come out in the US and not listed:

Megaman X3
Megaman Battle & Chase
Parodius
Rapid Reload
Vib Ribbon
Wipeout 3 Special Edition
Klonoa Beach Volleyball
Kurushi Final
Hebereke's Popoitto
Yattaman Time Bokan
Trash It!

Are the Rockman Complete Works really rare? Can't find anything other than Rockman 1 that isn't in the neighborhood of $50, including Jp sites.

Yep, they're rare alright. You might want to try Console City to check prices on Amazon Japan. I've gotten lucky on some deals through that site. Of course, this all depends if that seller is willing to ship overseas and doesn't charge crazy shipping costs.

Good luck on the hunt!

The games came out and they were later re-released as part of the PSOne Books line. Keep that in mind if you care about not buying ugly Greatest Hits reprints.

I can't imagine them being too rare, Mega Man anything is just hot right now.

Thanks. PSoneBooks is actually the only cheap ones I've seen. Other than that Rockman 3 is expensive and I didn't find anything else.

Outside of nice packaging and PocketStation functionality, you can get the PS version of all those games and more in the US-released Mega Man collection.

Granted, the PocketStation is hella cool.

On the back of the spine-card is written "please put it into recycle paper bin"

oooooh Sony......... :D

is XL the best version or Wip3out is better ?

I got Galerians off a friend today. I know it's supposed to be pretty crappy, but it seemed interesting enough to give it a look.

I just recently found out something I can't believe I never knew: there was a 3rd Iron Soldier game! Iron Soldier was one of the few excellent Atari Jaguar games, and #2 was released on the Jaguar, its CD add-on, and the Nuon - all virtually dead systems.

Iron Soldier 3 was a Playstation game. I never knew. So I picked it up, and damn, it's awesome! The upgrade from Jaguar visuals is amazing, of course, but even by Playstation standards, it looks pretty nice and runs well. I'm a fan of the series, but I think even someone who isn't would love this fun, simple mech game.

Finished an update to my recently-updated PS1 Game Opinion Summaries list, so now there are images and video links for some games: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=503389

Actually Iron Soldier 3 was originally a Nuon game, but yeah, it got an (obscure) PS1 port. I would imagine the Nuon version probably has slightly better graphics.

So I finally got my lazy ass around to taking a screen of my collection, and figured I would contribute to the thread. I am saddened that I can't seem to find my copy of Breath of Fire IV, not sure what happened to it, I may have to pick up another copy off ebay :(. Quite a few of my cases have been roughed up over the years, and I may need to replace some of them. Also need to see if I can get a case for Metal Gear Solid, since it was given to me from a friend without its original case. Thankfully though, most of the game discs are in excellent condition.

Courtesy of coming across this thread a little over a month ago, and seeing some awesome collections, I have been working on adding to my own collection. Here is a pic of some additions i've made in the last month.

sezXvBf.jpg

First thing I worked on were the Guncoms and Point Blanks/Time Crisis. Still have my old tube TV I bought right before the PS2 came out, and have been enjoying some classic light gun action with my two older kids. They both love the point blank games, which are imo, the best light gun games out there.

Also took the suggestion of one of the posts here for the Acii Grip one handed controller. I recall PSM (such a great mag btw) really raving about it back in the day, but I never grabbed it even though I have a lot JRPG's that it was designed for. Tried it out after I got it, and its really awesome, I shouldn't have waited so long to get it.

Even though I have a pretty good start there are a good number of games I still want to grab. Probably work on replacing my BoF IV (still a bit miffed about that), and getting Mega Man Legends 1 to complete the MML games. I really really want to get Tales of Destiny, but man i'm not seeing many that don't usually go for about $100. I really love ToD too, but man..its hard to justify that much on a game, especially one released so long ago...but i'm sure i'll break sometime. The PS1 is definitely special to me, and I have been having a ton of fun adding more games to my collection. What an amazing console.

I must ask: how is Iron Man X-O? I remember it getting mauled in reviews, but I'v always been curious to play it.

Also, glad to see that you picked up Vagrant Story.

To be honest, its really really rough, wouldn't be worth getting unless you can find it for like $5, even back when I first played it, I didn't much care for it, its a stinker. I know it was another one that I got from my bud, because I would be a bit upset spending full price on that one lol. Loved vagrant story back in the day, but I think I only gave it a weekend rental and never completed it. I am actually kind of surprised I didn't pick it up back then considering I was a super Squaresoft fanboy, and hell anything they released at that time was a sure fire good to great game. Its one I plan on playing through soon though.

I don't see Soul Reaver, you might want to work on that. But you do have Blood Omen so you get points for that. :D

Very nice collection.

Thanks. I have Soul Reaver on the Dreamcast ,so I think I will let it slide from my PS1 collection :). I actually have never played Blood Omen! I've seen a lot of praise for it so i'm eager to give it a shot. I am starting to get to the point where some of the ones I want to pick up are getting higher and higher to nab, things like Persona 1 and 2, Valkyrie Profile, and ToD. Thankfully, there are still quite a few that are not as expensive as those, but man I really want ToD :(.

When I was in Japan I picked up that and the Japanese version of Bust a Groove (Bust a Move). A couple dollars (or yen) apiece.

I prefer my PS1 rhythm games to have smoking, drinking and Hell, thank you very much!

(there are also n-bombs in the Japanese lyrics for Bust a Move which I'm not exactly saying are a good thing but hey... freedom from censorship, a curiosity piece... and actually more authentically hip-hop culture...)

I think JP Parappa is stupid cheap still too. I think im gonna go that route (no I still dont have Parappa).

ive got it as well, you get a neat poster with it! Vib Ribbon too, both of which are still cheap as you said

+1 for uncensored content, and damn i wonder if JP bust a move is expensive now?

Wow even though I own many of the games that are in the last pictures in P version, I dig them more in NTSC-U. If I wasn't so expensive the shipping from USA I would buy more there.
If anyone knows a store with reasonable shipping prices to Europe please tell me. I have not tried this forum but it seems more focused to the new than the retro.
