PS2 platformers?

What are some good ones? I'm looking for a new game to play and I can't figure out one to get. I looked heavily at Sly Cooper 1 because I like the 'sneaking' gameplay element, but the reviews I read varied from awesome to average. I didn't look hard at Jax or Rachet because those games seem a bit too kiddy.

I'm looking for a game that's not too linear. I would like some wide open areas I can explore. I would also like something that's got good length and/or replay value. If possible, something that doesn't have repetitive action. Price is of no concern, but the cheaper the better. Does that platforming game exist?

I didn't like Pyschonaughts or Prince of Persia and I own God of War.

Thanks!

Don't worry about the Psychonauts thing and welcome to world of the really cool platfformers:

MUST-PLAY
Sly Racoon
Klonoa 2

PLAY-AT-YOUR-OWN-RISK
R&C 1
J&D 1

DON'T PLAY
People seems to complaint a lot about J&D3...but since I haven't played it I won't say anything.

The Jack and Ratchet games are actually not that kiddy if you give them a chance. It's like equating Shrek or The Incredibles to kiddy - after watching, you come away from it with a much different experience than a child would.

i think maximo 1 is the best ps2 platformer, but it's very linear (which is part of it's old school charm).. it's also pretty difficult. It's my favorite but it may not be your cup of tea.

It's all about perfect jumps and timing your attacks properly. there are a lot of hidden chests and things like that in the levels but they are not wide open. The levels are pretty much going from point A to point B and surviving the obstacles required to get there. It's fairly lengthy for a linear platformer because you'll do a lot of level replays.... probably something like 15 hours for most people, unless you get obsessed with getting 100 percent or something in which case you could spend a lot more.

So I should play Sly first? (I can get it for $11).

What are the differences between Jax and Rachet? they seemed pretty similar to me...

I personally think Sly Cooper is probably a more of what you'd call 'kiddie' game than any R&C or Jak 2 &3. Sly is easier and more lighthearted than those games

Ape Escape 2, Klonoa 2 and Jak & Daxter are the best (near) pure platformers platformers of the generation.

Well, when I mean "not too linear", I mean something like Mario 64 and not something like the original Crash Bandicoot.

it's not as linear as crash bandicoot, but certainly more linear than mario 64. If you played much of psychonauts, you could compare the levels of maximo to coach oleanders level, except with more difficult platforming/enemies... especially once you get past the first set of levels.
