PS3 Home Official Thread

Finally got in awhile ago, and there's just so many people, I couldn't find one GAF'er. I also remember trying the arcade in Woll's old GAF clubhouse before it closed, and it didn't play. Coincidentally, my own Namco arcade game doesn't play either... yet, when I go to Japan's Home, they work. So I guess it's region specific?

Thing's I wish they would add to US Home:
-Easy ability to visit other region (like a train station), besides logging in on another account
-Easy way to send a Good Grief, already came across fake digital thugs fighting
-Day and night cycles, that would be sweet
-More buildings like a Medieval Times or something. Maybe even an amusement park
-Multiple movies at the theater and some real content besides commercials and twilight
-Trophy bucks... because I don't feel like paying .99 for a pair of pants.

(I remember complaining to in another thread about being nickled and dimed and was told I was being cheap. :lol Well we'll see how this "charge for knick-knacks" thing goes).

EDIT: I'm so burned out from Home right now. Is that a good thing?

First of all, they need more free content in this thing. People really need to be able to personalize themselves.

Where were you last week when I was making this point and getting micro transactions explained to me by home fanboys?

I was playing video games instead of walking around in a virtual environment looking at virtual items for sale.

They screwed that up. The first batch of clothes and accessories should have been free.

Then the next wave of trendy clothes could have a fee, that way, new comers could have at least something to change into, and then decide later if they wish to pay for some new button down shirts or whatever.

EDIT: Nice Heather, Kay. Something for those Home-o-erotics to chase after and woo you with running man dances from behind (and the occasional asl) :lol

As far as options go, they just launched, it's not like the NXE avatars are any more full of options.
on one hand, this is a beta, on the other hand, this thing has been being played by at least a chosen few for fucking ages.

NXE is a fair bit more expressive. They're not as encompassing as Mii's are, but at least you can get a rough facsimile.

In Home, you can't make: Old people, fat people, kids, poor people, people with beards, and more.

They should have at least had more things to make yourself standout. It's just really creepy right now.

Alright so US got Far Cry 2 and Uncharted spaces, Japan got Siren and Everybody's Golf and Europe got nothing :(

boohoo :/

I think they split Home into different pieces. The wardrobe will probably become more interesting when Dress is released.

The character model is indeed too restrictive. Hopefully if the infrastructure turns out to be ok, they can focus on stuff that matters to gamers rather than all the backend optimization.

SecondLife could only handle low 6 digit number of users. If Home can outdo that, it's an achievement in itself but no one would probably give them a pat on their back. These are hygiene factors. They need to focus on the end user content (e.g. Dress, arcades, awards, meta games, etc)

Their marketing literature indicated that Home is only available for age 16 (18 ?) and above. They are probably afraid of degenerating into SecondLife style of (kiddie) pr0n. So no kids.

It is possible to make old people. I have seen one running around. :)

Poor people are us right now since we have a limited wardrobe.

Facial hair is not varied enough. The problem with the character model is not because it lacks option. It's because it takes too much effort to make something really different. They need more templates.

You aren't missing much, if the Far Cry and Uncharted spaces are anything to go by.

Why can't I fish off my balcony?

gotta say, I was not disappointed by the program, once I got in. Sure, there's not much to do now; but what there is kicks ass. I loved all the different little diversions and distractions, and it's closest thing to a real "virtual life" simulation I've ever seen. I like my tiny apartment, but would like it more if it wasn't identical to everyone else's. Like, I wouldn't mind living in the broom closet or something and pounding angrily on the ceiling at the hipster scum parties going on upstairs.

The real draw here, for me, is the unlimited room they have to grow on this concept, if the thing takes off enough to make that feasible. The sky's the limit on the number of interesting things that could be done with the medium, such as gathering places for people to talk about real issues, virtual galleries with free admission to check out artwork, hell even parks with stone circles to sit in and listen to someone do some storytelling over mic.

On the transaction end, I scoffed to learn that they actually expected me to buy anything in the game with real money. At first. The military jacket grew on me tho, especially at the price point of 45 cents. I've dropped more than that in the couch today, I'm sure. Even though I'm pretty broke, it seems like a pretty reasonable price structure and I might even patronize it at some point if I can score a PSN card. The summer house available for purchase now really didn't appeal to me, but if they release a haunted house or private island in the sky, count me in.

I tried making a guy to resemble me, but then I realized it is hard making a Filipino dude.

So I said screw it and made a girl :D

I thought I was the only one on GAF who chose a different gender :lol

At this moment, there's a fat guy with a fro running in circles around the female avatar I just made. Not saying anything, just running around me, over and over again.

That was probably me!!!:lol

I was getting bored until I got 16 shadows at echochrome and got a bunch of items, it seems no one gets echochrome, its arcade was the only one empty :lol

Great pics minty, it would be so much better if you could actually visit that area instead of looking at it from a balcony.

Almost 30 big mouths, each one talks in it's own fucking language, each one has it's own restrictions. I don't know ...

I wanted to take some pics of the central plaza and other locations but ppl wouldn't leave me alone. Things were getting a bit creepy ;<

It took me like an hour to find someone willing to play Warhawk with me.

Within that time I saw a barely talking female character get hit on by several different dudes, and then hear one of them tell another one to back off cause she's his over his mic.

I am... not amused!

How'd you get the games? (Is that your personal space?)

Make a Japanese account then download the Namco beta. After the Namco beta download finishes, play it on your primary account you'll eventually get prizes in each of the games. So far I received a t-shirt, sweater, and two arcade machines.

I like this a lot more than I thought I would.. I've been playing bowling and pool for the last two hours with friends :D

Although I am disappointed, because I remember seeing more things like being able to put videos in your house and pictures.. and we can't even do that yet, on the release day!
Also, I remember seeing this huge trophy room, which I haven't seen yet.. but it's all good.

This is the style they should have used for Home characters.

Nah, they should have just expanded Mainichi Issho and everybody and their friends can become different Toro and friends.

But they all move even slower than Home characters, it would take forever to get anywhere.

Yeah, I wish they would have went the cartoony route of Minna no Golf or Mainichi Issho rather than the more realistic style.
