Oh that's right no network passes. But I can still play it online with ps+ in Australia if I import overseas! right? ( just trying to be sure)

I think that's a safe bet as long as you have PS+ already.

If my Japanese PSN account is any indication, the PSN stores aren't available at the moment. I got a "this service is not available in your region/country" message when trying to access it from the US on my North American console. I really hope this means that it's just not ready yet and not that Sony is implementing some kind of store region locking.

What is the quality of in-game voice chat like?
It's something that always annoyed me with PS3.

The quality is fine on par with Xbox 360 expect I have terrible echoing problems. My friends all comment the same they can hear themselves echoing during party chat no idea how to fix it I've tried a few mics

That's okay, I don't plan on playing it until the console is released here (29th) so the store would be up by then.

Is there a higher percentage of people having PSN connection problems than of those who are not? Outside of the first night I've had no issue logging in or playing online. It's pretty much all I've done since Friday morning. The store, syncing trophies, downloads (game or patches) and Twitch streaming have worked for me every time without fail.

No problem logging in, playing games, streaming, using the store etc..

My "not working" options are the "What's New" menu
Facebook profile pic stopped working and reverted to PSN pic
Certain option take some time to load like Account details, social media linking options, etc..

I hope this improves, I personally think it's a big deal for online gaming especially on a next gen experience..
I've read that xbone trumps ps4 on this.

That "What's New" isn't working for me either but I dismiss it as an issue since it doesn't impede my gaming. The rest you mentioned works for me flawlessly.

This gets asked a lot. Apparently nobody has a clue haha

Phooey.

Also, I go :) a little whenever I watch things install from disk. Watching the status bar go and the size transferred go from 11 gigs to 15 gigs in a second or so is pretty sweet. For a second pre launch I was worried that games might perform a little worse during install while moving all that data, but boy was I wrong. It's so fast.

So does anyone actually have Warframe working? Mine patches to 22% and then hard locks the PS4, requiring me to pull the power plug.

Why didn't you put a goddamn power switch on the PS4 like on the PS2 and PS3 so I could just switch it off instead of having to pull the goddamn plug, Sony?

Warframe is fully installed for me but I haven't played yet. The farthest I got in was to the title screen so the PS4 would start downloading the patch. I shut the PS4 off for the night and it was ready to go the next morning.

I played it for a while, but it loads so slow and matchmaking takes forever.

Anybody using the PS4 on a monitor? What's an easy way to get sound to my crappy old PC speakers, what kind of adapter or whatever do I look for?

So overall I've had a pleasurable experience with the PS4 so far. One issue though... My profile name is showing up as my real name, and not my user id... Even if I change it in Profile Settings. :/ Can this be fixed on SEN website proper? Or is it not changing over on the PS4 because of PSN issues galore? I thought I selected the right option when doing the startup wizard, but apparently not. :(

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
What's with the PlayGo thing? I haven't been able to use it once this entire time. Not with Contrast, or Blacklight, or Flower, or Sound Shapes, and not even with Fifa. What's that smaller secondary file almost all of the games have to download?

Didn't get to hook up my PS4 until late last night. I was anxious after reading about so many failure stories. I even have one of those Hongfujin Yantai China September 2013 systems from Amazon that seems to be so common among reported defective units.

Well I've put it through its paces last night and for several hours today. No HDMI problems. Downloaded all the available free games (including PS+) and their updates. I also download COD:Ghosts and its huge update, and played that for a couple of hours. Didn't have any crashes on any of the usual suspects. Even Warframe updated without a hitch. UI did get slow at times while I multitasked with Music Unlimited playing in the background. But I never had a stall or need to reboot. PS camera worked fine with Playroom, and facial recognition and voice commands worked fine. I was able to connect through the PS App on my iPhone, though there doesn't seem to be much you can do with the app at the moment.

The physical console itself is so much sexier in hand than behind the plastic kiosk case. It's probably my favorite console design ever, so far. Also, I haven't noticed it making much noise at all while playing. Looks like I got a good system. I'm relieved.

Lastly, I've been reading so many negative comments about COD:Ghosts and how shit it looks, but I must be easy to please because holy shit the native 1080p graphics looks so damn better coming from the PS3. I have my Kuro set to display Dot-by-dot and the graphics are so crisp, it's like looking at a PC game. Native 1080p for most games this gen is going to be so nice!

edit: Forgot to mention I had no problem accessing the store or getting booted to the UI. I was able to browse and download things from the store just fine. Though, I couldn't find the download list or anything similar. I guess Sony still hasn't provided us a convenient way to browse/sort/search our download libraries for easy redownloads. Hope they sort that out. Shit's annoying. And while the UI works fine as far as I've experienced, it's pretty barebones and uncustomizable. I'm eager for system updates.

Disappointed to hear about the hardware issues but doesn't seem to be too catastrophic. Online getting slammed is par for the course. I guess I should be grateful it comes out later here.

I think those files are patches

Pulling the plug, under any circumstance, doesn't sound good. Warframe downloaded/installed flawlessly for me. I jumped in a game to check it out; haven't played since.

Yea, fighting with the sword is really shitty in that game.

If you have any other headsets, like phone ones they work great as well. I'm using my iPhone 5s headphones that has a mic on them. Been using them for game and chat audio, I think they sound great and the mic works great!!

iPhone headphones/mic work on PS4?! That's awesome (the mic doesn't work on Vita).

Installed and patched on 1st try with no issues. Been coming back to it here and there throughout the afternoon.

Protip: you can use your mic (even the cheap one that Sony gave us) to do voice commands in the Dynamic Menu.
PlayStation.
Battlefield 4.
Start.

Profit!

Pretty cool.. I hope they expand this functionality in the neat future.

Okay GAF, I got my PS4 and will soon be setting it up. I have a few questions first.

Should I just jump in and enjoy or do the update first? How long is the update?

Should I use the HDMI cable that comes in the system or use one of my own?

Can I still use internet functions without the update?

LOL Apperently, non-gamers still think the systems are backwards compatible. I kept getting questions like "What are you gonna do with your PS3?" "Can you sell me your PS3?"

So is there any way to quickly mute your own mic if you are using the camera? I would like to have it as a backup when i'm talking with friends, but a total off toggle forever would be fine.

The hacky work arounds i've found involve plugging in the included headset and muting that using the hardware switch on it (and thus losing speaker and clean portability) or creating a party and just being alone in there so no one else will hear you.

Your real name always appears on your own console. To everyone else, it's your PSN ID (unless you've accepted a Name Request from them.)

I don't have a PS4 until the 29th, but from watching videos of the OS, I think there are a few immediate improvements they could make to the layout - mainly to move away from that long list

1) have everything in content heading/folders.copy the TV/video layout of a heading icon with a grid underneath so you can easily see content as you browse across.

2) folder for 'recently used' which collects the last games/apps you used, in order of most recent at the top. This would be the folder in focus when you press the PS button. One press down gets you immediately to the last used app.
2a) alternatively keep the flat list for recent items, but limit the number to 4-5 so it doesn't take too much scrolling to get to other stuff

3) have a Games section showing all your currently installed games so you can easily find them. Alternatively, change the library icon so it shows installed games first (not apps) and that could do the same job - needs to be moved forwards in the list

4) have a Favourites section and then let people add games/apps to this, kind of like the Xbox 'pins'

5) put video unlimited in the TV/Video section. I know it's your service Sony, but don't take up a headline icon when many people may not use it.
5a) as soon as there is more than just music unlimited, make a music folder and put it in there

6) let me sort those folders by name, most recently used etc. in the case of TV/Video, give me an option to hide uninstalled apps that I don't want to use or don't have the subscription for, or at least move them to the bottom of the list so my installed channels are first

I'd have the layout something like this

(Playstation services) live from Playstation | recent activity || last used (default focus) || favourites | games | TV&video | music

Man I was really excited to get a PS4, but know, honestly... I'm bummed down. First it was DOA, then the rubber on the sticks goes bad like in a few hours. Too many problems. I've already been in this situation with the Xbox 360 and it went straight down bad: it lasted 10 months only.

Although might not be as bad as Amazon reviews make it look like. Well, who knows, I hope Sony clarifies things a bit with official statistics and diagnosis.
