Odd. I'm just using the Connect to PS4 Directly in the settings, so I dunno what's up. Not a big deal.

I've been using wifi for remote play, works like a charm. Stepped onto the front porch to smoke a cigarette, still worked and not any noticeable latency (Assassins Creed IV), although i do have a beefy router (asus nc66ac with merlin firmware). So if you are having problems, consider investing in a new router.

When I woke up this morning and stumbled out of the bedroom for coffee, I realized my PS4 simulates the warm glow of the living room fireplace I never had.

I've tried to download Contrast at least five times, and it always fails about halfway through. Even worse, the system thinks that it had downloaded it successfully, and is ready to install. I have no option to resume download; I have to delete and start over every time.

First night I didn't put leave it on standby because I thought the light would be too bright for my room. Turns out it's not at all. I think the PS3 red light was more noticeable, though that's probably because it was on the front.

I'm a little concerned, are the What's New, and other sub menus not showing up for anyone else. They worked on day one, but have since disappeared. Is this just something sony disabled to help with network overload, or do I have a software problem on my end?

Disabled due to network overload.

Hey NA Gaf, I got a question for you.

So I know you can plug headphones directly into the controller and output game sounds. I have several questions regarding this.

1) Can you additionally connect a mic or is that the same plug?
2) How is the quality?
3) How do you adjust volume?

Thanks guys.

Honestly, Sony has known for months that they had over a million preorders. How was their network not prepared for this launch? I expected a little downtime/bugginess, but it's starting to get annoying at this point that days after launch some network features still aren't available.

Only thing not working for me is the what's new section. Everything else has been running smoothly.

What's the quality of the party chat like? Comparable to Xbox or better?

The sound quality is on par with xbox 360 and the ease of use with the party chat function is as well...my biggest issue has been you can hear yourself echo pretty bad when using it though it can be a bit annoying

Just unboxed my PS4 and getting ready to set it up. Quick question for anyone who knows...

If I hook up the PS4 to my TV with HDMI, and have an optical audio cable going from my tv to receiver, will the PS4 output surround? I just got a 360 awhile back, and it didn't work with that set up, so I had to connect it directly to my receiver. I don't have anymore room on the receiver, and it takes a bit of work to move everything around, so I wanna avoid the hassle of testing it out if I could.

The limiting factor is the TV here. I've not seen a TV that will output surround through optical from an HDMI input.

I've always had mine setup this way and it works perfectly. All my consoles are input to my 50" LG Plasma thru HDMI and output through optical to my Kenwood DTS reciever. Supports all Bitstream Dolby and DTS HD audio. Just make sure that you set your PS4 to Bitstream as I'm pretty sure Linear PCM can only pass through HDMI.

Anyone else having issues loading The Playroom? It's telling me I don't have a license for it.

I'm logged in as the original "User1" that I later signed into my PSN account with, so it's the only account on the system.

Anyone else having issues with the codes they received from games and the system?

I'm currently unable to redeem the 7 day PS+ codes that came with Killzone and with NBA 2K. Also unable to redeem the Music Unlimited code.

I can't get the Music Unlimited code to redeem but it's not the redemption itself that doesn't work, it's the fact that Sony never let me used my CC on PSN since 2007...it NEVER worked. And since you need a CC to get the trial going well I'm fucked.

I might go buy a 20$ prepaid card just to set that up and then use the card for something else.

So... what are your thoughts on the console? Could you give us a kind of 'review'? :D

Sure.

The controller:
-Incredibly comfortable. Feels like your hands are being "filled in" by the longer, thicker grips.
-Flat surface around the dpad and buttons is much more comfortable than the graded surface on the DS3.
-Sticks are shorter, which means less strain on the thumbs to stay on the top, also much better deadzones and precision.
-Triggers feel like someone rubbing your belly while feeding you grapes.

System:
-Design is absolutely beautiful. By far the best Sony design.
-Buttons could probably be bigger.
-Disk drive is hidden by the top and bottom plastic pieces which means I have to look for the slot when I'm putting games in.
-Quiet.
-Small.
-Feels solid. Solid construction, weighty.
-The glow of the yellow standby light at night is like a reminder that I have a PS4.

OS:
-It's basically what I want: fast and minimalist.
-Missing major features from the PS3 that I think need to be in there. The lack of ability to pause downloads is bizarre.
-Needs folder support.
-PSN shitting itself is ruining my take on the Library, Store, and What's New areas.
-I love how it background installs and downloads things.
-It needs to be clearer about when it has downloaded a patch and is ready to apply it. PS Vita is the model here (it shows a downloaded patch icon).
-It needs suspend/save ASAP.
-Friends have signed on/Friends are playing this game notices are missing. These are on PS3. Where are they on PS4?

Games:
-Battlefield: Beautiful. So smooth. Campaign is meh so far.
-Calladuty: Beautiful. So smooth. Campaign is meh so far.
-Killzone: Beyond beautiful. Smooth. Campaign has ups and downs but mostly downs for me so far (my least favorite KZ but there is some neat stuff).
-Asscrud 4: Good!
-Knack: Still in the plastic!

I want to buy NFS.

I don't believe the PS+ trials stack. I entered a 7 day code and wasn't able to get the 30 day code working. My plan was to go through those before using my 1 year code.

anybody think places like Target might have PS4's in stock today? I know it's Sunday but was just wondering.

Not sure about Target, but Gamestop might be a good bet, actually. I was in there on Friday, and the guy said that the preorders that weren't picked up go out to sale for the general public today.

Well, might have been a good bet at opening, anyway. My local place is probably sold out again, now.

Sony really put together an amazing piece of hardware here. It really is small, quiet, and runs coolly. I love how smoothly all of the sharing stuff works. The controller feels great aside from one thing - I think they could have angled the handles out more. Even just a few more degrees would feel more natural. I really hope they release a patch for Knack that lets you lock the frame rate. I'm having a great time with the game and it looks really good, but the weird frame rate makes motion look juddery. Allin all I think this has been a great launch and can't believe we'll be getting stuff like Drive club and Infamous early next year.

I did this last night playing Killzone, and it's one of my favorite features. It's awesome being able to plug in headphones on the controller, and not through your TV. (you can sit wherever!)

The quality is great. In fact, I wasn't able to listen to KZ very loudly at home on my TV, and as a result had doubts about the game's audio. I plugged headphones into the controller, and was completely blow away with what they did with the audio in the game. Leagues above previous KZ games, and the music is fucking awesome.

I adjust my volume on my headphone cord itself... didn't check if there was another easy way - I assume you can turn your audio down in individual games.

This is seriously annoying me too. I put in a bunch of preorder codes (amazon killzone pack, cod map and badge, bf4 battlepack) and they never showed up in my cart to download on day 1. I went to check the download history on the ps4 and I can't find it at all. I then checked the dl history on my ps3 and re downloaded the cod codes but killzone doesn't show up. When I tried the code again it obviously said it was used. Anyone know where to find your download history on the ps4 store?

About adjusting the volume through headphones, every game has a sound options menu accessible from inside the game AFAIK. Itcould be better but it's OK for now.

1. Same plug, so if you wanted both you'd have to go with a good set of headphones with the built in mic.
2. Very good, but loudness is an issue for me. Playing Resogun I'd like to really crank it up but even at max volume it isn't loud.
3. Pushing the PS button brings up the menu to adjust headphone volume.

Thanks a lot for the impressions. I mostly play with headphones so that's a feature I really like.

I'm almost done with COD. It has it's ups and down but overall, I really don't know what is going on other than me shooting guys.

As for Assassin's Creed 4, I loved the beginning but once I got to Havana, I quit caring again. Same ol' AC as before as far as the story and it still feels like a giant tutorial.

Trial codes don't stack. They are only for first time PS+ or Music Unlimited users.

Okay, so...this is a little disconcerting. I've went into "Test Internet Connection" twice in the last ten minutes because my connection has been messing up, and it hard froze both times. Had to physically unplug the cable.

Umm....

The fact I can get system audio through the headphone jack on the controller is kind of a game changer. Easily the best, least talked about feature.

I can't put it in standby. Not risking an electric hortage. I'm sure even powered off it can damage but more so at standby #TeamPoweredDown

You guys actually put it in standby mode? I just turn it off completely.
I disabled most of the standby functions except for USB charging. That'll come in handy to be able to charge the controller at any time whether the console is on or off. Especially since the battery life ain't too good now.
