PS4 Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

So is there a guide to the various colors for the PS4 side LEDs?

So far I have seen solid white, glowing white, solid blue, glowing blue, and solid orange. But I can't really tell what they mean aside from solid blue = on, solid orange = standby.

yeah, this is really unintuitive..

from what it looks like:

a) you can't download DLC without first downloading/installing the game.
b) after you download the DLC, it updates the download/install file/package directly

someone else can maybe confirm, but if you want to delete individual DLC or such you no longer have that choice. You now have to delete either the entire game/cache (though this doesn't affect your saves)
I accidentally cancelled the free fall map dl at first. I have the digital version and like you said, there is no option to redownload dlc. I just tried to redownload the game and it downloaded the dlc map. It said that it couldn't download the game cuz it's already installed but it downloaded the map just fine!

Hey guys sorry to bother all of you with this, especially in this thread, however it is the most active one for all things PS4.

I ordered a PS4 from Amazon as soon as some stock popped up on launch day, to ship to Australia.(Fastest possible shipping, which they auto picked DHL Express)

Some others on a Australian forum ordered 2-3 hours later then me and have got theirs already and some will be receiving it tomorrow.(everyone is posting their tracking info)

Amazon:
Latest Event: Phoenix AZ
Package received by carrier – November 15, 2013 12:00:00 AM

DHL/Amazon Chat:
Friday, November 15, 2013 Location Time
1 Shipment information received PHOENIX, AZ – USA 00:00

As seen above, I contacted Amazon chat after DHL told me they only received the Shipment information, not the package itself, rep confirmed it, still assured me 20th November delivery date.

That was 10 hours ago, my package has still not been given to DHL, I doubt very much it will arrive in Australia by the 20th of November.

I'm devastated as information is confusing me, Amazon website says it has given the package, while the Amazon customer service confirmed they had issues giving the package to DHL.

Here is the kicker, same goes for my Assassins Creed 4 order, that one is the same as PS4, stuck in Phoenix and not budging since the 12th which was the shipping day.

Anyone have a similar experience? My hype is dying here, almost like Grinch stole my present.
My copy of Killzone is lost somewhere in Phoenix too. I had exactly one shipping update (package received by carrier) and then nothing. Purchased on the 11th, was supposed to get here on the 15th, and then nothing. Amazon refunded my purchase and gave me a $10 GC to help pay back shipping on another copy (couldn't even buy it from Amazon, because they have a 1 per customer policy currently. Had to buy it from a marketplace seller). Not sure exactly what's going on in your situation though, as I'm in the US.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
So last night I bought Need For Speed Rivals from the PSN store. It downloaded overnight (along with the other 2 games I purchased) and installed, but it only seems to have done a portion, as after playing the tutorial I'm taken to an "Installing Game..." screen. Is it still downloading? It is going EXTREMELY slowly, about 1% every 5-10 minutes, with 55% to go. It doesn't show up in my downloads list. Is this something that will happen in the background like other game's downloading/installation? Or do I need to be in the game on this screen for the download/installation to take place?

Yes, the initial download is just 4 gigs for NFS, the whole game is around 18.

And welcome to the awesome world of slow-as-hell PSN downloads. Don't ask about it here though, people will just say "mine is super fast you're doing it wrong".

I get about 500k/s from PSN on the PS4 from Time Warner in Brooklyn. Steam, iPhone, 360 all max my connection out at 6MB/s.

Don't know if it's servers being hammered, but I'm getting some painfully slow download speeds. e.g. just started downloading KZ:SF update (85MB) and it's taking 30min on a 20MB connection, what. Never had such issues with the PS3.

GAF,

I've been browsing many of the next-gen topics and trying to take in everyone's thoughts/opinions. I'm not biased towards Sony or MS, it's just really difficult choosing between the two consoles.

2 things made the 360 my console of choice. XBL and the controller. I thoroughly enjoyed my 360, it's games and switched over to PS3 after my 360 died for the 4th time. For the past 1.5 years, I've enjoyed catching up on Sony's PS3 hits.

Yesterday I had the chance to use the PS4 and loved the controller. However, can anyone shed light on the online aspect? Is it more cohesive and thought out like XBL? Is it easier to see what my friends are doing and join them? I felt so secluded on the PS3. XBL really, well at least for me, it really felt like a cohesive system. It was easy to navigate, and I knew that my friends were always within reach.

At the very least, it's an improvement over how the 360 worked in terms of joining games and being in party chat. It's so solid, trust me.

Very interesting i thought everyone was getting blazing fast speeds.

I wish they'd surface more of that information though. I bought 3 games last night (NFS, AC4, Killzone) and left them all downloading overnight. Everything else finished and installed with no issue, but the problem with Need For Speed seems to be that for that last 14gb you have to leave the application running. I hope that was just poor implementation on EAs part, and not a sign of things to come.

in theory yes you can, however it is new and buggy! I noticed -when it was working- I clicked on a friend's profile, it showed what game they were playing, and it had like a "Join them!" button. I didn't try it, because I don't have their game, but ever since it's been so buggy I haven't been able to see what friends are doing.

If this is the major thing you are looking for in your console experience I may hold off purchase until all these issues have been ironed out.

Xbox 360 had options to watch netflix together and stuff like that, I don't know if PS4 will (or does?) have any functionaltiy like that, but there is party chat, and the online experience does seem to be integrated with the friends list to a point so far.

The PS4's screenshot feature needs to be faster. It takes the screenshot at least a second or two after the icon pops up. I would expect it to be instant like the Vita's.

Very interesting i thought everyone was getting blazing fast speeds.

I downloaded DCUO which is a 22~ GB download, and it downloaded & installed in what seemed like less than an hour, and my internet speed is supposed to be 18MBS ...

So I'll just say it was an hour then that means it downloaded at around 6MBS... well my math might be totally screwed, but I was totally happy with how fast it downloaded lol

Edit: I'll also mention during the whole thing, I was hopping in and out of online games and streaming netflix back and forth. So compared to the PS3 it seemed like black magic to me.

So far online has been a good experience. The UI is cleaned up and a bit more streamlined. I'm coming from being primarily a 360 user (I have a PS3 as well). Party system seems fine, I've not joined a game as a party yet, we just chat. I will say that the Social system to accept friend requests is a drawn out process:

get notification of friend request
hit PS button
navigate to the notification
Select notification to have it bring you to profile or requester
View request
Accept request

More drawn out than hitting the Xbox guide button and accepting. Then you need to do it all again if they want to request real names.

I thought there was a "Follow" system in this too like the X1 will have... not found it yet though.

yeah this is something i would like added. When i get a new message i wished it would just pull up the message when i hit the ps button.

And they really need to force dev to support inviting the whole party into a game and keeping them together. I can see this being a problem for matchmaking but its something that needs to just work.

Is there a way to get larger screenshots (ideally 1080p)? Right now I'm sharing via twitter and the max I can get is 1024x576 and pretty heavily compressed.

Edit: Nevermind. It looks like appending ":eek:rig" did the trick. Still pretty compressed though.

I'm coming from 11 years of XBL. I'm not feeling like I'm part of a big community when on the PS4 like I felt on XBL. I'm not even getting notification of when a friend comes online.
Maybe I just need to get used to where things are and be patient that things will run better in the weeks to come. Just doesn't feel as intuitive right now.

ugh. After playing the ps4 all weekend. I love the system. But

I did not like KZ. The multiplayer lacks your traditional modes and it was completely dead last night

Knack was too slow, after 4 hours i could not get the hang of it.

Then i looked at the releases of new games. Nothing

Nothing i want until maybe infamous, but then nothing until june.

I think i am going back to my ps3 and waiting until the gakai network is up and tested, and more released games.

ugh.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
Quick question, what type of cable is the charging cable? I want to buy a longer one from amazon or monoprice.

Is it USB to microUSB or somthing else?

DietRob

Mini usb.

Are you sure? I thought PS3 used Mini and PS4 used Micro. The longer cable I bought for my PS3 controller won't fit the PS4.

Edit : Yep, Verge says "Since the DualShock 4 now uses a Micro USB port, you can juice the controller’s rechargeable battery with a smartphone or tablet charger, or even hook it up to a PC."

You were really close to getting an invoice for $7.06 DM :p

Anyone can recommend a good TV to purchase to get the most of the PS4?
It seems that mine is dying. Screen flickers a lot, sounds cuts sometimes and eventually, the screen always turn black; at first i feared it was my PS4, but now it happens even on my PS3 and WiiU :/

This may be a stupid question, but Is there a way to display when your friends get online? I haven't noticed it while I'm either in game or just browsing the UI. I have to keep checking my friends list manually.

This is a bug I believe. There is no option to turn this off or on right now. Once they get it fixed I hope there are options to turn it off however. I prefer to not have them pop up.

OK. Just making sure. Messages pop up just fine, but friends being online doesn't

Do we have a list of upcoming games? I'm almost done with Killzone and CoD and it looks like I'll keep playing Resogun for the foreseeable futrue. I'd like to see what's coming in the next month or two.

Greatness truly arrived when I played through Killzone's reveal level and realized it looked even better in the final game. Upgrade total for once! ;)

Is there any way to bypass when you turn the system back on, and it asks which user you are, me or new user? I would like the default to be me and bypass this selection, is there a way to do that?

Tiny Brains and Escape Plan are downloadable and come in the next couple of weeks. I'm not sure about anything else in November. The only thing I know about in December is Doki-Doki Universe.

So is there a way to save your login information on a website? The browser is pretty good, but it logs me out of twitch. I want to save that info for when I want to watch dota but I have to re log in every damn time. Annoying!

Greatness has arrived!

Unfortunately it did so in a tight ass box with 0 extra padding in it. I didn't even get one of those shitty air bags on top and because of that the ps4 box is dented in several places. This is not off to a good start...

the good news is that the ps4 is levitating within a cardboard box itself. so you should sorta be safe.

Anyone with Injustice, can you confirm that the PlayStation 4 gets really loud from booting the game to when the logo appears? Knack and Killzone don't do this, just Injustice, it sounds like the disc drive is going absolutely crazy!

Anyone with small hands having issues with the ds4? My right hand feels perfect with my palm fitting into the controller when I press the buttons. My left hand does not feel that great. I feel like my thumb is stretching in a weird way with my left hand when I use the sticks. It might be that the sticks are harder to push so it might be a muscle issue. Did it take anyone a few days to adjust to the new controller? I'm hoping eventually it will feel great.
