Can anyone tell me what's the difference between Linear PCM and Bitstream?

Bitstream is where the system outputs HD master audio or whatever. Linear PCM decodes in the system,

Linear PCM is the way to go

So, I just got NBA2K in the mail and whenever I try to start the disc up I get "an update file is downloading. Do you want to start the application now without updating it?"

So, I've been waiting for 15 minutes now and there's still no update downloaded. Can I check the percentage of this update anywhere?
Yes in the download list. It right next to the friends list i think.

Not sure if this was posted, but I was curious how much bandwidth the streaming to Twitch used, this what I found.

Data-rate being used for uploading/streaming to Twitch on PS4 for each quality setting:

Best ~225 KB/s
High ~165 KB/s (Default Setting)
Medium ~112 KB/s
Low ~70 KB/s

Interesting! That sounds super manageable. Twitch streaming just might be a thing for me when it comes time for a PS4.
The wait is killing me :(

Ok, after 3 days using the controller, I thought I'd share an educated and level headed thought about it:

This is the best controller ever made for gaming,
in my humble and insignficant opinion
.

Thanks to whomever gave the industrial design and ergonomics teams at Sony a proper budget this time. They have created something remarkable.

Alright so I am finally getting my PS4 tomorrow. It is being held hostage by UPS right now. Came into town @ 10am and they will not let me pick it up due to processing or some BS like that. But I get it tomorrow and then I am off Wednesday and Thursday so perfect timing anyway.

I will be taking my PS3 to Best Buy tomorrow and getting the 100$ gift card, so I have a question.

Which games to get?

I am thinking Knack will get purchased so I need another one. The ones I have my eye on are ...

Killzone
Battlefield 4
Need for Speed
NBA2K14
Assassins Creed 4

Which one of these do you think will be the best? Best showcase game? Most replayability? Which one has the longest shelf life you think? Will I get 100 hours out of anything here? I'm so torn!!

I think it's amazing when it comes to controlling games, and the precision it offers with FPSes is the best I've ever had.

But for some reason the way I hold it kind of hurts my left hand?

Get Killzone for graphics/showcasing what the PS4 can do, AC4 for replayability/ a long singleplayer to get lost in(great graphics too), BF4 for your multiplayer fix (it's amazing when it's working), and NFS or NBA if you're into those genres. Both are fun, but NBA looks jawdropping. NFS is a really good racing game though.

I'm already at 15 hours in BF4, 10 in KZ, and close to 40 in AC4(not even half way through the story)

An opinion as that is as subjective as it gets. Being able to see open parties is already making the PS4 much more connected to my friends than on PS3 or Vita. Then you have the ability to see the What's New section and see what your friends are doing or go into individual profiles and catch some of their activities and see if they are streaming. It's as cohesive and entertaining to see what my friends have been doing or streaming or taking screenshots on top of other news in the feed.
Well I'm looking forward to this then. What's New hasn't worked for a second for me and I'm praying the no notifications for friends online is just a launch issue. Get all that working and I'll be satisfied.
Darn I used my psn plus 30 day trial on my old account by accident. Ugh.
PM me and I can give you mine.

bish gets all the credit :)
Apparently Jeremy Lin (NBA player) got a PS4 from Sony in a crazy case with his name tag on it.

Do we know of any other celebrities or sports stars getting one from Sony?

Yeah this is right in line with my thinking which is why I am so freakin torn! lmao. I really want them all to be honest. May trade in my PS3 games to Gamestop to try and pick up another one for 3 retails and then all the downloads.

Does anyone know if it's possible to change my Gamertag? I have a feeling the only way is to restore my PS4 and sign up with a new PSN account.

Thanks.

I have a question about streaming. The area I live in for the moment has terrible internet options. What would be your recommended minimum upload speed to reliably stream from the PS4?

I just got my PS4!!!!!!!!!!

Brought it home and had to battle through being tired as frack, hungry as frick, and excited as freck to get going on my PS4.

Now just to preface this, I was assisting a friend and his busted PS4 yesterday, so my setup was a bit in disarray with various things unplugged. So I whip out the PS4, find a spare set of HDMI cables out of a bunch I bought a while back (didn't wanna use the supplied one), plug 'er into my TV, switch inputs, power on and... nothing. :(

I got the white LED, but the TV was displaying no signal. By this time I was doing a combo of eating dinner and trying to troubleshoot, so to be honest my mind wasn't entirely on the subject at hand. I rolled my eyes at the thought of having to troubleshoot this, so I got to work power cycling all my devices, holding the power button, trying various HDMI ports... nothing worked after 15 minutes.

Then I decided to try out my PS3 connected to the same TV... oddly enough it was giving no signal too! All my other devices worked fine. So after a few more minutes I finally stuck my head behind the TV to get a better look AND... much to my chagrin I discovered that instead of plugging my PS4 into the TV, I had somehow, someway managed to work it out so that I plugged my PS4 into... my PS3! lol

Well suffice it to say these two devices mysteriously didn't want to work well together :) So now my PS4 is fully up and running and downloading games. YAY PS4!!!!!!!!!!!!

heh, in my defense, all my HDMI cables look alike, and I hadn't realized my PS3 wasn't plugged into the TV, heh.

Ordered a PS4 from K-Mart today and got free next day shipping. It'll be here tomorrow. Take heart those who didn't pre-order, stock seems plentiful enough if you stay vigilant.

Got my PS4!

Not gonna lie, the system UI is a bit disappointing thus far. It's fast moving around but lots of waiting when you want to do something. Parts of it are fairly unintuitive. Took me a while to figure out how to log in to a different account (log out is under power? wtf?). The background music and sounds in general are great though. I only spent about 15 minutes with it thus far, so I still have a lot to learn and maybe it will grow on me over time (and hopefully Sony updates the UI more aggressively this gen -- I'm all for added features like they did with the PS3, but it was still the same UI from beginning to end).

As someone who didn't own a PS3 it's annoying that I seem to still have to install games (let alone the notification kept popping up multiple times that Killzone was ready to install). Why can't that just be done automatically as a part of the download process?

The typing with the controller is actually really accurate. I was impressed. I wish the keyboard would be bigger because it was a little too easy to accidently select another character with my sometimes shaky hands. Is there an option to make the keyboard bigger that I missed?

As for the controller itself, it's okay. Big step up from the DS3 I will say. I've used both next-gen controllers before this, but was saving judgment until I got one at home. I do like the XBO controller more. It just sits more comfortably in my hands and all of the buttons feels more within my reach and I think the triggers are superior in the xbox controller. My hands just feel stretched going for the share/options buttons and it feels almost too big in the hands (really wide). I haven't played Killzone yet, so I haven't gotten much use out of the sticks yet, but I don't like the way my thumbs rest on them when I was playing with them. With all of that said, Sony did step up their game and DS4 is overall solid.

Picked up Knack, Killzone, Resogun and Contrast with PS+. Decent selection to start. Can't wait to play them shortly! My girlfriend wasn't really interested in any of the PS4 exclusives unfortunately but hopefully Knack will be good and change her mind.

Haven't set up my Vita with it yet, but that is definitely on my To Do list for tonight as well!

*Edit* Also, mine seems quiet so far. I sit about 10-12 feet from my TV and couldn't hear it at all, but I was only in the system UI, not a game yet. As for the update, I assume it went smoothly. My girlfriend set it up (I went home to play with it on lunch break) so I can't say first hand how it went, but she didn't call me with any problems so that's good.

Killzone graphics are way too distracting. My eyes can't make out anything because of dat next get sheen

I have 2 accounts, my main Australian one and a US one. Downloaded a few things from my US account since EU PS4 store doesn't work and from what I can tell, you can't play all the content on the console, it's restricted to each account. There was something about a main account during the initial setup, does it have something to do with that?

Fooling around with making the rgb mode full in the video settings to get a nice detailed contrast on my tv. I believe it is my led samsung smart tv, but I am getting some minor flickering in some of the black levels on screen. Anyone who has a similar tv know how to fix the problem? It may be the "dynamic led mode" Could it be the hdmi cable? I tested the system on my computer monitor and everything looked great.

This feels like the most casual, calm, un-hyped console launch in my entire history of console launches (going back to SNES 1991.) I'm sure it's just me.

I started playing Killzone on Friday evening after work, and last night before I went to bed I had completed the campaign twice. I wouldn't call it "short," I literally played it all weekend except of meal breaks. I loved it, I think the reviews were way too harsh. Today I left the office during lunch to pick up a copy of AC4 (haven't bought a game on my lunchbreak in years) and am about to head home and crack it open.

Alright, I was able to snag a PS4 and I have a few questions.

First off, I found a year of PS+ for $40. Will this work for the PS4? I'd much rather spend $40 once for a year than $15 a month.

Second, is there anywhere still offering the B2G1 deal still, or maybe on Black Friday? I plan on getting BF4 on digital download (I assume this is possible?)

Also looking for a deal on a PSV2000 ... if there still is one somewhere. Preferably in colors? lol

Haven't owned a Sony console since PS2 so I guess I'm a noob.

So I redeemed by Killzone preorder DLC from Amazon and I'm not sure if it downloaded. How would I check if DLC is installed? If it isn't, where can I go to find my download history?

Edit: I evidentially redeemed the code but it's not in my install history. Just need the download history area I guess.

Yes the ps+ will work. FYI gamestop is doing a $30 year of PS+ on black friday.

I dont know of any games deals any more.

Hold the PS button to quickly pull up the options to close applications, power off the console, put it in standby mode, or to log out.

I wasn't even aware of this, sure enough I got a code from Amazon. I can't find anything about it or describing what it gives you... what is it?

This may have been asked already but I havn't seen it: I tried using the party function on the vita and play on remote play but it closed the vita's Party app, and my mic wouldnt work plugged into the vita to use it through the ps4's party system. Is there something I'm doing wrong here or does this functionality not exist yet?

I just got our second PS4 in(1st was DOA) and We are loving it so far. Last Gen me and my son were Xbox guys but made the switch due to all the crap Xbox pulled.

First thing I was worried about was the controller because I was a huge fan of the 360 controller but the DS4 feels great. It has a good weight to it and just fits in my hand great.

The UI has a ways to go but it is simple and quick to find what I am looking for.

I have played Killzone, 2k, Madden and Need for Speed. Killzone and NFS look awesome and play great. So far I am happy with the launch lineup. It has a little of everything except an RPG and they have more than a few titles I am interested in next year.

Finally the feature that should get more pub is the Vita remote play. My son is playing 2k right even though I have the football game on. It makes life easier with the family room tv and he gets to play no what is on.

Overall I am impressed with Sony and what they have put out even though I had a defective one playing it now feels like 400.00 well spent.

Hmm, there are three OWL skins available at the PSN Store...

BTW I think download history is under Notifications.

That's the problem. I redeemed it but it's not showing up there.

Here is the DLC description from Amazon:

The Amazon Video Games team thanks you for purchasing 'Killzone: Shadow Fall' for PlayStation 4. Your purchase has qualified you for the 'Shadow Pack' pre-order bonus.
