Really loving the PS4 but I have a question for the A/V people:

I have a 50" Sony Bravia that is set to "Standard" Scene as the tv puts it. Is there a specific mode I should have my PS4 set to like " Movie" or whatever?

Technically, you should set it to "Game" (make sure to calibrate that scene). It pulls all of the video processing to decrease latency. I generally keep mine set on "Custom," as that's the one I've calibrated. The input lag doesn't really become noticeable to me unless I'm playing something like a Pinball game. At which point, I have to use the Game setting or it's nigh impossible to play. I'm on a 55HX929 Bravia (LOVE this TV).

Another dumb question from me, but my PS4 is still downloading games when it's in stand-by mode right? The FAQ made it sound like it would only download updates and patches.

yes, everything downloads, firmware, games, patches, dlc, etc, etc... it should download when you buy something over website as well.

I was bored at work today. I decided to compile a list of things that I think would make the system much better and feel more complete. I am aware that some of these things are currently in the works and will be added through a firmware update in the near future. Anyway, here it is:

My List

- Release dedicated apps for Twitch, YouTube and Google Drive

- Allow users to upload captures to YouTube and Google Drive via the Share button and menu

- Allow users to transfer captures to and from USB storage

- Allow users to format USB storage devices in order to store game installs and game add-ons

- Allow users to save screenshots as JPEG or PNG

- Allow users to capture video at 1080p and/ or 60 frames per second

- Enable and simplify batch selections via a single press of a button (eg. Selecting friends for party invites, deleting content, uploading captures, ect)

- Create a dedicated icon for local captures on the main menu

- Create separate folders and/ or sections for games, demos, music and videos on the main menu. Allow users to organize and sort said content, as they see fit

- Enable the option for users to view all content and information (games, media, captures, menu options, ect) in either a list or thumbnail format

- Allow users to navigate and interact with the main menu with the controller’s touch pad.

- Include all the Sound and Screen options in the initial console setup process (eg. Resolution, screen size, RGB, ect)

- Allow users the ability to pause downloads and sort download priority. This should also be made possible with uploads as well

- Require all developers to include detailed change log information in their game’s Update History

- Allow users to display their PSN ID on the main menu, instead of their real name.

- Decrease capture notification latency and make it easier for users to know when video capture begins and ends

- Require demos for all PSN downloadable titles (Users would essentially download the full game, but only have limited access until it is purchased). Games that are available in retail are exempt, but are still recommended to offer demos

- Enable the PS4 to automatically synch trophies online in the background, as they are unlocked

- Allow users to enable or disable various types of notifications in the What’s New section

- Give users the option to enable notification sound effects through the controller’s speakers

- Allow users to change the color of the main menu background. Also allow users to use custom wallpapers.

- Release additional pieces of music for the main menu

- Allow users to dim or disable the controller’s light bar

- Allow users to select favorites, “tag”, “pin”, “flag” and/ or add “stars” to items, for easy and fast access. (eg. Users can choose specific games that are played regularly or friends who they spend more time with) Also, create an icon in the main menu for all favorite items and friends

- Allow users to hide or delete place holder and/ or preinstalled content (eg. Play Room, Music Unlimited, Netflix, Hulu, ect)

- Include the controller’s battery charge on the top portion of the main menu. Also allow users to display the battery charge with a percentage instead of an icon

- Create and release additional avatars.

- Create a notification that shows when friends are online. Also give users the ability to disable this feature

- Allow users to set themselves as “Busy” or “Away” when online. Also allow users to create and save short, custom statuses as well.

- Enable MP3 playback on the PS4. Also allow users to play MP3 files while using applications (eg. Games, PS Store, web browser, ect)

- Enable content access via DLNA with PCs, media servers and other wireless devices

- Give users the ability to transfer content and media between a PS4 and a PS Vita

- For 3D TVs, display the main menu and all of it’s assets in 3D

- Make highlighted and selected menu items brighter, solid or given some kind of effect that easier to distinguish

- Give users the ability to configure custom Share button inputs (eg. Screenshot, Video and Menu) in addition to the two existing options.

i wonder if sending audio is even completely off. even though you can slide it to "0" i feel like it's still sending something over to it killing the battery more if the game has that feature. playing resogun that is. doesn't feel like it last.

Tested this today. Left my PS4 in standby, left my home for a few appointments and while I was out I ordered a game from my phone using the PS app. When I got home it was fully installed and the console was still in standby. Was really awesome.

What's everyone's experience with watching Bluray movies on PS4? On mine, the drive is considerably more noisy playing first 10 minutes or so of the movie as opposed to later on. The more it plays, the more silent the drive becomes. Basically the closer to the center of the disc the laser gets, the more silent the drive is.

Is this actually how every PS4 right now is doing this? Just a player software bug where it doesn't control the disc spinning speed correctly (I hope...)?

Almost everything on the OS shows your real name. As long as you have your privacy setting to not show people your real name, then you're good.

If you told it to not use your real name, it won't use it. Don't worry. Everyone but you will see only your standard PSN ID. It only shows your First and Last name on your own console. Which, yes, is confusing and I double checked with several people that they only see my PSN ID.

So, if you set your PSN ID to speedy, that's it, that's the only thing anyone but you will see and be able to search. Sspeevy weevy search doesn't return anything.

Also, please let me know now that you entered first and last name, and then went and changed it, does your recent activity screens still show the name you entered first?

I think ive played resogun on the vita more than the tv lol. Remote play is seriously the best feature of the ps4 imo and it really signifys next gen. Hopefully they keep updating it to make it even better.

Anybody knows if there's a way to mute the Pulse Elite when you're using them via the cable plugged in the DS4? TherE's a mute button on them but it doesn't seem to work since it's normally muted through the software on the PS3.

I heard NBA's install took forever, is there any idea why? I know it's 50gb and the largest of all the launch games but that shouldn't mean much. Knack was 37 and that took like 2 minutes to install.
