PS4 Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

So the BF4 update came out and the PS4 is gonna tell me it's gonna take about 8 hours to download all 670 mb.

I thought this was fucking next-gen, you're telling me that I'm gonna have to spend my day off waiting on this piece of fucking shit download? It says I have 12.7 Mbps connection speed (wired also) and now it's just taking its sweet fucking time? 8 fucking hours. What. The. Fucking. Fuck.

Go drown yourself PSN.

Synced to European launch.

There's definitely something wrong with the PSN servers. My buddy that lives not even a mile away, on a different ISP, was able to download 1.51 at 2MB/s. Me, on the other hand, couldn't even touch my theoretical max of 2.25 megabytes with the FIFA 14 demo. Would have required over a day.

It took me literally a week to download Ghosts to my PS4. Internet where I live sucks.

It's happening: my Track & Trace code (to, well, track and trace your package) is in. Starting at 8 PM (that's one hour from now), I can see when I'll receive my package... :D

PSN problem, Internet problem, whatever, my day off is ruined.

So these Open DNS servers, they just filter bad internet and only give me good, fast internet? I dunno I might just make the switch to Comcast.

With the rest of the world joining on PSN on Friday what are the chances of PSN working properly? It's going to suck if we have another weekend of it breaking down like at launch.

So uhm, I sort of want a PS4 on launch day. I was getting one like half a year after release, but missing out on PS+ games and the rising hype level made me decide otherwise. I'm in the Netherlands, does anyone know of any retailer chains (preferably Limburg area) that have a batch of PS4s reserved for walk-ins on release day? No, I didn't pre-order and yes I'm stupid.

Probably gonna be the first time since PS2 that I'm not getting a new PS device at launch... And I thought I would be OK with that :(

Oh yeah! Apparently testing internet connection restarts the download back to one percent. This is great.

If you ever unplug your router or do a modem reset or change router settings I would always advise doing the internet connection wizard again so it gets acclimated to any changes.

Pretty annoyed that a week after receiving the system my analog sticks have small cracks in the rubber... is this common? My launch PS3 Dualshock 3s are all in great condition so to have analog sticks breaking down a week after getting the system is really disappointing.

If PS+ is a worry, you can add those games to your cart and check them out from the web store, no PS4 needed. Save them for when you do get a PS4.

I just let my nephews play resogun on the PS4 for an hour and a half or so. During that time, I fell asleep on the couch. When I woke up I heard this crazy loud fan noise. I went over to the cabinet and found that the PS4 was in standby mode (the kids had moved on to Minecraft on the 360) but spinning its fan at top speed. The TV stand cabinet door had been closed while it was in use.

Now, I think this is ridiculous. I have the PS4 in my TV stand in the single largest opening available. It's about 3 or 4 times as high as the PS4 itself and has a hole in the back to let hot air out. Up until now I have run with the door open but figured closing it wouldn't be too bad because the 360 and xbox one work with the doors closed without any trouble and have less room and less direct venting. The PS4 is probably my loudest system even with the door open.

Now, it was in so overheatted protection mode I guess and the fan was so loud, I could hear it upstairs on the opposite side of the house. After about 10 mins, it finally cooled down and spun the fan down.

I have to say that the heat dissipation of the PS4 continues to disappoint me. The unit runs hot and loud with the door open and nearly melts down if I close the cabinet door. I am wondering if this is the design of the system or if mine is defective. How is everyone else finding the noise of the fan. Do you have it in a TV stand cabinet? Are you able to close the door? Does anyone here have an xbox one for comparison? My XBO is essentially silent and my PS4 is annoyingly loud in the best of situations.

That's odd. I wonder if it was pulling warm exhaust air back in? You'd think if you have an open back to your unit, the it would pull air in from the front (how closed is it?)

Dude, you need to get it out of that cabinet. I can't even hear the PS4 when it's running, I'd be worried about the longevity of your console putting it under constant stress like that.

This is what it looks like. See all that room? See the vent hole? Where do you guys put yours? on top of the TV stand? The xbo is below the PS4 with way less room and runs near silently!

That's not a vent hole, that's a hole for the cords. Half of your "vent" is obstructed because of that.

Why in the hell do you have that hot ass modem sitting on top of your new console, smothered in dust and closed up to begin with? Common Son!

Details details. There's a hole there! That's more than the XBO has! :) How do you have yours set up? In an industrial rack with a ventilation fan behind it? Hahah.. seriously... I can't have it in a tv stand cabinet? Everyone laughed at the XBO external brick and large case. Right now, I am thinking MS had the right idea.

Hey guys, does anyone know when amazon.com will restock? The only way I can get a PS4 for a reasonable price is from them.

Just so you know ...Gamestop stores will be opening up midnight black friday which is thanksgiving night/Black Friday 12AM and they will have PS4's available for walk-ins. I plan on getting my PS4 that night in a few days. I have around 6 gamestops in my area and i called everyone and all of them said yes they will have non-bundle PS4's available for walk-ins..no pre-orders necessary.

Just wanted to mention this in case you live in the USA. I am in the Chicago area so i am not sure if this is true in all cities or what..since i live in a larger city maybe this is only for gamestops in larger cities? Not sure...

That's not a modem. It's a switcher box that is switching optical audio. I couldn't fit in anywhere else and it runs completely cool. Not heat whatsoever.

Mine sits on the same level, right next to my TV. In the open. You've got plenty of room there.

I have the same issue with my PS3, I just leave the door open while in use and close it when I'm finished. I'd rather that then my console breaking because of overheating.

So there's no ventilation for the other compartments? So all the heat from the receiver and the Xbone rise up to the PS4's compartment?

I have mine in a TV stand, sitting alone on the shelf, with no backing attached. The only section where I attached the backing was in the center where I toss controllers and remotes.

Why hasn't Sony released official stands for sale in the US, yet? What the hell, Sony!

Sony licensed them out to Rocketfish among others officially in the US. That's probably as official as you're going to get without an import, they are however the exact same thing (without a Sony-branded box) like the ones sold in the UK by Sony itself.

I really need to stop reading comments sections. It's like 3rd graders trying to insult each other.

Just today, I read these words typed out without any ironic intention: "The Indie Samestation 3.5"

That's not really an adequete hole though. My dad has his 360 in a similar setup and it gets dangerously hot. If you're also shutting the doors that will trap the heat. Any other devices below or on the same level will also contribute to this.

I know this answer isn't exactly helpful but essentially the type of cabinet you have tends to expose hardware to slightly more challenging conditions. Open backed units are best for heat reduction and build up

Plus his XB1 has all the PS4 space for the hot air to rise. The PS4 hot air has nowhere to go because of the top of the cabinet. This is assuming the glass door is closed.

Well played.. (purchased on BestBuy.com)

So I just now redeemed all the codes Amazon sent me when I bought my PS4 and a few games, but instead of immediately downloading I chose the "redeem additional codes" option. Now I have no idea how to download the stuff I redeemed since there isn't a download list like on the PS3 store. If I go to "library" in the store I see the content, but there's no way I can see to download. Any ideas?

That's a good point about the receiver. I think there is a hole behind the receiver but there probably is still some heat rise. Maybe I could move the PS4 to the left side of the cabinet away from the receiver.
