PS4 Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

That's a good point about the receiver. I think there is a hole behind the receiver but there probably is still some heat rise. Maybe I could move the PS4 to the left side of the cabinet away from the receiver.

A lot of people that have cabinets like that (that also care about their toys) put a few 120-140mm fans in on a low setting just to help shift the air out.

Brickarmour - you could try opening that back up a lot more, or possibly putting a slow, quiet PC case fan to draw the exhaust air out of the unit.

So I just now redeemed all the codes Amazon sent me when I bought my PS4 and a few games, but instead of immediately downloading I chose the "redeem additional codes" option. Now I have no idea how to download the stuff I redeemed since there isn't a download list like on the PS3 store. If I go to "library" in the store I see the content, but there's no way I can see to download. Any ideas?

I can't check on my PS4 since I'm at work at the moment, but if you have a web browser and go to PSN store, you can view the Download List from there. I haven't tried this from PS4 web browser though, so YMMV.

Thanks for the replies. My main concern was that my PS4 was somehow broken but I think the reality is just that my setup needs to be optimized.

I just bypassed the HDCP on my PS4, I can now record gameplay through HDMI with the capture card.

Could you write a tutorial on how to do so? And using which device (elgato i presume)?
I used the Roxio, and the hdmi splitter is an Etekcity though a Sewell would work. You simply input the PS4's hdmi cord into the hdmi switcher and then use another hdmi cord to put into that hdmi switcher to the capture card and that's pretty much.

In my honest opinion. Sony should have like a lineup type of thing for access online, like when BBM got released on IOS/Android.

Make the rest of the world wait their turn to access PSN all in small quantities to avoid crashing the PSN for US NA users.
But hey what do I know, my PS4 will be returned by then, and I won't have my other one till the end of next week hopefully.

As as I said in the EU waiting thread. Never putting myself through a console launch via online delivery again. Back to retailers I go lol.

(im sure ill be fine but ive stressed a lot about amazon this week lol)

Details details. There's a hole there! That's more than the XBO has! :) How do you have yours set up? In an industrial rack with a ventilation fan behind it? Hahah.. seriously... I can't have it in a tv stand cabinet? Everyone laughed at the XBO external brick and large case. Right now, I am thinking MS had the right idea.

Just by looking at it, theoretically it should be okay, but if your system is having trouble staying cool then you should move it. The PS4 moves out a lot of heat, and even though you have a vent hole in the back, it's up against a wall so there really isn't much room for airflow. Also, as others have mentioned, heat rises so it's possible that heat from other devices is getting trapped up there.

We sometimes have to remind ourselves that game systems are not just cable boxes or dvd players, they are complicated machines that output a lot of heat (especially current and next gen systems) and they need proper ventilation. If your system is overheating then move it to a cooler area.

It's ironic because a lot of people here were saying that they wouldn't go to a physical console launch anymore, and just go to Amazon. And now, it seems like the consoles bought from Amazon are having defects/bad handling during shipping.

That is my exact worry about getting a console shipped. I don't trust the extra hands/facilities/travel that the console has to go through to get to my house. I'd rather just pick it up from the store.

Only done initial setup and played some Resogun + a tiny bit of Flower. KZ:SF downloading now. Even with that little being used, this system is just flat out amazing. The OS is super snappy and fluid.

EU is in for a real treat.

UKGAFfer here, I'm buying Killzone and Fifa but I want one more game.

I'm learning towards Lego Marvel but I've also been tempted by Knack.

What would you guys recommend?

This is what it looks like. See all that room? See the vent hole? Where do you guys put yours? on top of the TV stand? The xbo is below the PS4 with way less room and runs near silently!

Da fuck?!

1) That`s not a vent. It`s a tiny hole.

2) Half the hole is obstructed.

3) WHY THE FUCK THERE'S SOMETHING ON TOP OF YOUR BRAND NEW GOURGEOUS CONSOLE?!

Is the playstation app not working for anyone else? I keep trying to open it and it just says "An error has occured" and then it says it cannot load. I even tried deleting and reinstalling it, but no luck.

I'm trying to use it on an iphone 5s

Would this work as a device to bypass HDCP? I'm desperately looking for one that doesn't need extra power (running low on electrical outlets).

I really love my PS4, but I won't lie when I'm say I'm disappointed in just how barebones he entertainment options are. They really need to improve that, and hopefully soon. I also have trouble understanding why they couldn't get their official PS3 Bluetooth remote control to work. That thing is amazing for navigating the UI and media apps, and it's absence on ps4 has caused me to continue using PS3 for my media stuff. That seems counter-productive to have to keep around both systems for something the new system should be perfectly capable of doing itself.

I hope Sony adds better support to their peripherals next month (at 17:30 http://www.livestream.com/onplaystation/video?clipId=pla_af400f4a-7984-4559-9fbe-3a3ed873ef8b). I bought the PS3 wireless Bluetooth headset just last month and was really disappointed that it didn't work because I figured Sony would better support their own hardware as they're known for interoperability and it's... Bluetooth. The PS4 is slimmer in media functionally right now (awesome gaming machine, though and I like their priority in that) but I think with a bit of time it will be back up and comparable or even better to the PS3.

the included mic is the worst thing ever. why are there no headset that supports the port on the controller?

I really want a headset like what comes with the xbone.

Are all of the PS4 apps pre-installed in the OS or is there an apps section in PSN? I didn't see one right off, but then again I was in sensory overload after hooking it up so may have blown right past it.

So I left the PS4 on standby the whole day. I come home in the evening, and I turn it on. The first thing it does is download a Resogun update. What the heck was it doing while it was on standby? I thought these downloads were supposed to happen automatically when you're on standby mode, but I've yet to have this happen. I've been in the settings and turned on all the standby features, but still no luck. This standby thing is so weird. You don't really seem to get anything out of it except for a controller charge.

What's bad about it?

Haha, as I am reading this I see an ad on TV for a local car dealer (Weston Nissan) giving out free PS4's or iPad Air with the purchase of a new car. I wonder how many they have though I won't be buying a car from them anytime.

Latin america here.

I have Killzone + Knack on the way plus BF and COD digital ready to download but i want to get more games lol, at least one, maybe two. I'm thinking AcIV, for the record i didn't like any of the previous one but a lot of it was because of their poor performance, i'm a graphics whore and i hated the terrible framerates and graphics in the current gen games. The other would be Fifa, but i'll have to try it first before deciding, any thoughts?

Does anyone else have certain issues with installing games sometimes. NBA 2k14 and BF4 specifically are pretty bad about it. I have to do it like 2-3 times if I ever have an issue with it where it won't start up or something.

Just a heads-up, if anyone in here that stores his electronic equipment like a Lego set built inside a plastic bag will later on complain about a console having heat issues, I will laugh!

So if everything goes smoothly, I may get my PS4 today! :) What should I look into to see if my system has any issues?

I'm aware of the HDMI issue, the standby not working, optical audio and resolution not projecting 720p/1080p, auto download of updates/demos through playstation app on my phone and obviously a noisy fan. any other issues i should check for? :)

Thanks!
