PS4 Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

Installing 1.51 right now, that ambient music in the menu was amazing. Fucking sexy UI.

So where have they hidden the PS Plus code? I can't find it anywhere.
 
Are certain features disabled right now?

My What's New section is blank and I feel like there's supposed to be like a social media section below each game as you navigate through the UI? I'm assuming both have been sacrificed to smooth the launch over. I hope they get that back up soon. As much as I like the UI, it feels a little empty compared to the pre-launch footage of what it's meant to look like.

That was disabled to reduce the workload on the servers and preventing PSN from crashing. They will get back up once the Europe launch is over.

This. They have preemptively disabled it. It crapped out during the NA launch. It works fine now. It should be back up for EU within a week.

A few basic 101 tips…

- Use your OWL a LOT. Especially it's shield ability.
- Shoot in bursts and generally switch weapons instead of reloading.
- Swap your pistol for one of the other Assault rifles or shotties whenever you can.
- Press up on the d-pad constantly for checkpoint marker viewings.
- Hold right on the d-pad for a few seconds to see through walls (but not too long that it gives you away).
- In the dark areas, swipe up for OWL fire mode, and just keep pressing L1 to order him around. Then hold L1 to bring him back. He will be your guiding torch light.
- Stealth is better than all out guns blazing.
- Listen carefully for tasks. Sometimes you'll be fighting waves and waves of enemies unless you heard the command telling you what to do next (e.g. get in the ship).
- Crouch to use the cover system where you can. It will auto cover behind low walls.

So I set it up so that only PSN name displays and yet when I look at group chats or other things, it still shows my real name. Is that how it displays to Friends or is this only displaying my full name to me but it shows only PSN name to my Friends?

You have to have your name requested for it to show to others.

Real name is only visible to people you sent a real name request too.

Thats why im asking if there is a code in the bf4 box cause if not I might return it. If I cant play online that game is useless.

So, has anyone found a way of extending the camera cable? I need at least a couple more feet to have it where I need it and hide the cable.

What colour should the light be while my PS4 is on? I'm paranoid..

Where is the download list?

Can I customise my main.. menu(?)

Also I got 2 copies of AC4 in my fixed pack (not a question but even so)
 
Pro Tip:

Don't get rid of the PS4's box, as it is quite possibly the greatest console carrying case I have ever owned! I went to visit family for Thanksgiving today, and everything just slips right back into the box nice and snug with zero hassle. Just slip the cardboard braces back on the console, put it in it's place, and then there is a dedicated compartment for the small amount of cords and the controller. As a bonus, there is already a handle built in too. So yeah, hold onto that thing just in case.

PS4 il really fantastic!

DS4 is amazing and i love it!

PSN work perfectly, i'm downloading Resogun, Trine 2 and Contrast!!

No problem compared to what happened with the U.S. launch!!!


I love my PS4!!!!

The light strip should be white while the PS4 is in use. It turns blue while it's powering on, and it stays orange while in standby.

The Library is the de facto download list now.

You cannot customize the main menu, unfortunately.
 
Yeah I got my PS4 now, it is so fast. I just have one issue: how can I make HDMi link to turn off my receiver and TV after entering standby mode? It turns them on happily, but not off.

Yep, been doin this same thing every weekend since launch. I even wrap the plastic around it and slip the controller back in the plastic it came in everytime :p

In addition to the ones mentioned above, there's also Amber when in standby.

The Library icon at the end of the main bar is where it'll list the PS4 games, you can also re-download them from there.

We can't. At least not yet.

The thing is, as I bought it it for my little brother aswell (for xmas and his bday on the 24th of December) I will have to endure the wait until 24th of December.

It's sitting wrapped by my side, could you endure the pain???? x_x

Went to gamestop for black Friday and waited in hopes of a PS4. Turns out they had they some. They started handing out papers for people who would get them when they open. They had six and I was seventh in line . . .
 
Just a quick tip for something that caught me by unpleasant surprise:

If at one point you had PS Plus, regardless of when or how long, the 14 day trial will not work. It simply won't let you get past the redeem screen. There's no message of error, it will simply refuse to progress.


Which is a dick move, I might add. Not sure why they're doing this.

Hate to tell this to you but it's unlikely there will be any stock left in Finland after today... your best chance is to find a store that takes new preorders for the next available batch. For example, Stockmann offered this chance to those people who were left empty handed earlier this morning. No idea when they might get more stock though.

Yea seems silly, it's not as if those 14 days added on top of our subscriptions would kill them...
 
Sooooo, not complaining or anything, but a couple of things:

The dashboard/UI/whatever is very very basic at the moment. Will they add stuff in such as wallpaper/ability to change the background colour? I liked that on the PS3.

Also, is the store down for anyone else just now? And why can't I open my library? It worked earlier, but now it just hangs on a blank screen (just the wallpaper in the background). It doesn't crash the system though, my games just never appear. I press the PS button and get back to the dash.
 
Now that I'm not in the waiting crew anymore my first impression. System looks super nice. Did wooble when placing it where it belongs for the next years ^^

The three clicks I had to do in order to navigate to the update felt really nice :>
