PS3's was infinitely better, it could have 6 windows open and a time instead of the extremely annoying way PS4 has 3.
Also had a flash player so you could actually watch videos and shit.

I don't think so I think they said they acknowledge that people want the update before some of the biggest titles of the holiday release so they are trying to get it out before then.

Haven't opened the browser on a PS3 in a long time so I have no Idea. I just remember people complaining about no flash on PS3 at one time. I guess it was added.

Luckily many video sites don't use flash these days, but then again it looks like ps4 can't handle videos with ad breaks all that well..
The PS3 browser is terrible now. If you disable java script it can function properly but that also makes certain functions unusable on some sites. Going in to a thread with a lot of pics will get the browser and system stuck in a loading loop that makes the system unresponsive. Sometimes the system will properly exit the browser when it happens and sometimes you have to manually turn off the console. The system will also sometimes hard-lock while playing videos and need to be unplugged to get it to function again. The PS4 browser lacks flash but is far superior otherwise.

That's a lot of speculations you can't prove. In other words: nonsense.
As a designer I agree but a lot of people still care because a lot of sites haven't done the work to move over to HTML5.
I'm sure there are "stability updates" in every XB1 update. They just don't advertise it when there are actual features in the update or they call them what they are, "bug fixes".

this won't happen because the lights are used as status indicators for troubleshooting. it would just cause so much confusion now for CS reps and documentation.

I didn't see a download bar (I'm also assuming that Escape Goat 2 is super tiny, so who knows), but it does let you know once it's done downloading and ready to play for sure
hmmm sounds disappointing since thats what i was thinking of.
i'll try to check it out once i have enough free space.

It can't even open the Rdio website, and even the Xbox 360 one can. Its garbage.

Yup, the major fw updates sometimes would update the flash player as well however they stopped at 9.
Even with 9 though about 90% of video players work on PS3 compared to maybe 20% on PS4.
Most of youtube didn't even work till this summer outside of youtube tv.
Considering the state of the PSN and the amount of screw ups lately, I fully expect them to release the patch, bring down PSN and also break everything in the PS4 software in a swift one two punch.
Just in time to not be able to play the big November releases.
That seems like a pretty arbitrary line to make.
I am sure the patch will cause one or two issues, but if anything major happens, all hell will break loose.

I would love this to happen. I don't understand why they advertise the system with the blue light turned on and when you do get it, 99% of the time the light is white.
That is 100% false.
The XB1 has had 3 stability updates. One was integrated with a major update. So you're wrong there as well.

That one was just a quick example, but its worse than a last gen browser which was my point.
ps3 browser always sucked and always will suck... system never had enough memory to run web browser properly.

It's not, though. check out the acid tests.
The PS4 browser is vastly superior to the PS3 one in virtually every regard including speed, standards compliance, and features. The only failings is that the PS3 browser is still hanging on to a crappy flash plugin from 5+ years ago of a version that Adobe stopped supporting approximately the day the plugin hit the PS3. So old websites that still support that still work, making it seem like the PS3 browser is halfway decent if you care about a website that supports old flash (like homestarrunner.com). If the PS4 browser supported any audio codecs at all for HTML5 audio it'd be in a much nicer place, and that's clearly a business decision (can't have people playing music on it that doesn't come from Music Unlimited).

they claimed it should be out before the biggest games of the year, which is assumed to be AC Unity, GTA V Remaster, FarCry 4 and iirc LBP3 should be out around the same time as those games.
so i guess it should.
I doubt it unless they announce it in another PR about 2.0 (they claim more is still to come in the update) or its a stealth feature.

Yes, of course. Any update can and does include bug fixes. The point is Sony almost never gets it right the first time, so almost every single firmware is followed by another "stability update" weeks later. Sometimes even the stability updates are followed by another stability update.

What else do you think "stability updates" are for? Of course they're bug fixes.
No, you don't get to call it a stability update when it's included in a bigger update. That's just how software works. Of course any big update will also fix some things.
As I said, for whatever reasons though, Sony are experts are releasing an update and then always having to follow up with a "stability update" soon after, and sometime several more.
They are bug fixes. They are not for the purposes of fixing issues that previous firmwares introduced. That's what I'm calling wrong.

You said they never have to do stability updates. I said they've done three already. Even going by your rules, there are two updates purely for stability.

The defensiveness over stability updates. It's incredible. I apologize for ever suggesting they're part of Sony's OS incompetence, which is well documented. Like I said, I'm wasting my time even bothering.

You know you should stop posting on a gaming forum when you start defining simple terms like confirmation bias, generalization and conjecture to win an argument.
What argument? I merely saying why his argument is wrong instead of just saying it's wrong because I said so. It becomes an opinion vs. an opinion - a never ending circle jerk. Even merely engaging in the discussion is a validation that the argument exist. The argument does not exist because it's flawed - at least how he presents it. It's an opinion that's being suggested as if it were a fact and no clear distinction is being made between fact and opinion. Simple as that.

Funny enough. The reason those updates exist is because of SDK updates for Destiny. Updating things in the background for some network services.
