PS5 Is The Prefered Console Among Devs According to GDC 2021 Survey

Sony's PS5 is the lead favorite among developers next to PC in a new state of the industry survey held by GDC. Nintendo Switch claimed the third spot.

PS5 is one of the fastest-selling consoles by Sony and it is also easier to develop, thanks to its architecture that is tailored for the devs. All of these factors contribute to the console being favored by the devs in a survey held by GDC this year. The final report from this survey is out now revealing some interesting figures.

The devs were asked about the platform that they are interested in right now. According to the survey which had sampled more than 3000 developers around the world, PC is the lead platform accounting for 58% of the votes. PS5 is a close second with 44% voting for Sony's latest console while Nintendo Switch is third with 38% votes.

PS5

Microsoft's Xbox Series is next with 30% of the votes going to the console and there is a surprisingly large amount of interest in VR development, accounting for roughly 27% of the votes. As the generation is winding down, interest is decreasing in the PS4 and Xbox One, which accounted for 12% and 13% of the votes respectively.

Cloud gaming platforms like Google Stadia and PlayStation Now don't appear to gather much attention. They received 6% to 4% of the votes showing a lack of interest in them.

Another interesting question was regarding their future projects and which platform they are developing it for, and PS5 is again taking the lead here in consoles with 27% of the votes while Xbox Series is not far behind at 24% votes. It is not a surprise to see that PC is the lead platform here with 58% of the votes, while iOS and Android retained 32% and 31% votes.

It is where the userbase and the money will be spend... so not a shocking news.

If I make a game I can want it to be on PlayStation too.

Clearly those developers haven't been informed about the horrible job Jim Ryan is doing with selling 7.8 million units and how great a service GamePass is once you add up all the savings.

As someone who got a Switch for Christmas I'm happy to see there's still a lot of developer interest. With all the focus on GamePass it's hard to not view things as 30% of developers are interested in getting a nice check from Microsoft.

Poller: which console do you prefer to develop for?
Dev: I don't care, they're almost the same, fuck off
Poller: so, PS5?
Dev: FUCK OFF!
Poller: PS5 it is

Its stronger then the Switch, which allows more flexibility and the Playstation userbase buys and pays for more games than the Xbox user base.
Pretty simple lol

So wait.
You're trying to tell me that devs, the people who use the newest hardware to make games, are interested in the newest hardware to make games?
Next you'll be trying to convince me the world isn't flat.

Mark Cerny is like a God amongst devs, naturally, they will like Playstation more, but Microsoft has Major Nelson so I guess we can call it even.

Imagine making a console war thread about a survey in which PC is the winner, but the title is about PS5 😂

Also, imagine thinking 58% and 44% is "close" 😂

Its I/O design is an impressive piece of tech where I would imagine developers who like to push the creative levels forward in the medium would be excited about.

Nothing for nothing, but 2/3rds of the threads in this forum read like marketing for the PS5 or Series X (Mostly PS5).
Confirmation bias be strong round these parts.

Both systems are cool.

So what you're saying is that PC is #1.. it kind of seems like a PC is a ps5+xbox series X in 1 machine for double the price.

It's literally the title of the article though.

Perhaps it's be better not to just parrot a clickbaiting website and write one's own title which would be more representative of reality and less designed to trigger console warriors.

Something like "PC Is The Preferred Platform Among Devs According to GDC 2021 Survey"

Because that's what it is. 😂

Of course, it has the hardware and ease of development along with the WW audience(this is what matters) Console wise of course.

Due to the nature of gdc, and most respondents being indie devs, PC is normally their n1 go to platform.

Yep this is a bit low for console warz, even for users on here.
lol you can make the thread title whatever you like to make you feel better or whatever but the survey results wont change man, they surveyed 3000 devs from around the world and that was the results, PC #1 but amongst consoles playstation polled #1. I guess the devs are console warriors too. 🤷‍♂️

Lead by example. Create some threads to show us how it's done, and help shape and be the change you wish to see.

Yeah?

There was still nothing false in the thread title, where the article's %s did not back it up, even if I agree with the nature of why it was chosen that way.
