PS5 Pro Has Reignited my enjoyment of Consoles

More like there is a select few GAF PC gamers here telling you that the value proposition isn't there, while also telling you how great a 4090 is. That's where we are.

Besides, none of those people could build a system for $700 that matches the Pro, so that's also where we are.

No one telling you how great value 4090 is...

There are many GPUs on PC that are not ridiculously priced (like 4090) and offer very good performance.

You can buy used 3080 12GB that offers significantly better performance than Pro...

Every thread. Same dozen or so members. They post so often I can't imagine that they actually play games. Like clockwork ^

One just said PS5 Pro owners got bent over by Sony who shoved the overpriced console (that said owners couldn't afford, for some reason) onto their asses.. a sentiment shared by some known individuals liking that post.
All in response to a factually correct sentence, at that.

It says more than a thousand words really.
We might hate overpriced hardware, but if it helps pay for Jensen's jackets then it's alright. I have no idea what a Pro will do for Hulst's wardrobe, so it feels like money wasted.

Bullshit.

Now to this...

"There are many GPUs on PC that are not ridiculously priced (like 4090) and offer very good performance."

True

"You can buy used 3080 12GB that offers significantly better performance than Pro..."

Great. Now what else do you need to use it? And remember, answer carefully, as I'm not just some "console gamer" like y'all like to reduce many of us to. I'm rocking a 3090 Ti, 13900K, and 96GB of 6800MHz DDR5.

Console players are still beggging Rockstar to throw a bone and give RDR2 a 60fps patch. I've already played the game at 4k100fps.

PC that you already have?

The same argument: sell your PS5 to buy pro for "cheap".

Whole PC with used 3080 will not be very expensive.

TBH I feel quite the opposite, all it did was remind me why I played on PC roughly 90% of the time. I’m feeling a bit of buyer’s remorse for sure.

I have to pay a subscription for online. And PS5 LAUNCH titles are still fucking $70 on the PlayStation store (whereas you can buy the disc versions for substantially less, new or used). Clearly they’re trying to steer you into paying for the more expensive PlayStation+ tiers.

And the dumbest part is the refund policy. On Steam I can request a refund within 2 hours if I decide it’s not for me. On PlayStation I’m a lot more hesitant to spend freaking $70 for a game if there’s a decent chance it won’t resonate with me. (Of course if I pay for a higher PS+ tier I can get 2 hour trials of some select games, wowee)

All of that would be moot if it had large selection of kickass exclusives. But the vast majority of PS5 games are also available on PC where they’re cheaper and run better, with free online, and I can actually get a refund if I don’t like it. And I can play them on Steam Deck.

Admittedly it’s mostly my own fault for buying it. It’s the best gaming system that money can buy if you don’t have or want a high end PC. I’m not going to pretend like a 9800X3D + 4090 is a better value proposition. But PS5/Pro is easily the worst value proposition ever for a CONSOLE, while also having the most lackluster first party game lineup in PlayStation history.

Oh well. I’ll probably cancel my PS+ and continue to do all my gaming on PC. The PS5 Pro will continue being the kids’ Astro Bot and Hogwarts Legacy system + for my existing PS4/PS5/Blu Ray library.

Same. But last time I checked they still use paragraphs and interpunction in Poland, do they not?

Nephew might have a good idea to not splurge on expensive things
Finally, you get it.

but also he is a hypocrite for reciting what he heard from influencers online without a 2nd thought. That's the problem

Maybe. 99.9% of influencers are a cancer to society, I'll give you that. But if even one of them had solid advice applicaple to the growing and susceptible brain of a 10 year old then I would very much welcome it. Nobody on this planet is acting 100% on their own free will. We all follow and copy to some extent. Just be glad that in this case it's a healthy and very true thing to believe in. No 10 year old needs a pro, but there are plenty who would want one. Your nephew is ahead of that.

How is he more responsible when he has all the other consoles that when you add them all up in value, it exceeds the PS5 cost? Sounds like a spoiled kid with parents who're afraid to say no to their kid.
Yeah fuck that kid for having consoles that came out 20 years before he was born and you can purchase for 25 bucks.

And once you're done with the half dozen PS5 games that have a marked improvement on the Pro? It's back to business as usual. There's always a high that comes with getting a new toy. But like always with consoles, once you've finished those handful of games that exist only on console, you'll most likely be back to PC. This is what has happened to me for over a decade now. I buy new console, am amazed by its ease of use and comfort but the limited choice and closed down architecture just turns me off eventually. PS5 Pro doesn't solve PS5's big problems. It wasn't performance. PS5 performance was fine. It's the lack of choice and the anti-consumer pricing of paid online and games.

That's why many of us stick with more than one platform. For me, PS and PC will always be my mains. I get the best of both worlds with a ton of freedom to choose what platform I want to buy games on.

You know, I’m someone who really loves chasing achievements. There’s just something addictive about seeing those little notifications pop up, giving you a concrete sign of progress. Lately, though, I’ve found myself drifting away from gaming on my PC and thinking about returning to a console, specifically the PS5 Pro. And the reason? Trophies.

The thing is, with Steam, achievements used to feel pretty rewarding. But then I discovered something called the Steam Achievement Manager, which lets you unlock achievements with the click of a button. At first, I thought it was pretty cool to have the option, but the more I used it, the more it sort of… ruined the thrill of actually earning them. It’s like, once you realize how easily they can be manipulated, it starts feeling a little hollow.
On the PS5, though, there’s this whole ecosystem that makes trophies feel more meaningful.

It’s great. The hate campaign is so strong online that I doubt it will be seen as success.
Even my 10yo nephew who got ps1,2,3,4 asked me if I got the pro and then proceeded to shit on my for spending 1000€ on w console repeating exactly the same dumb points influencers regurgitate.
I also have a nephew like that, they don't have an opinion themselve, just repeating some tik tok brainrot influencers.

It's not about whether you can or can't purchase something, it's about whether you should.
Highly subjective.

If you really want him to be responsible, you teach him he ought to buy something if he wants it, but that it might mean having to miss out on something else.
There is nothing wrong with buying a $1000 Pro or whatever the argument is. Certainly not if you can afford it.

Your opinion is just yours.

Eh.. Nvidia actually advances real time rendering forward.
Consistently and since forever, so overpriced or not ideologically speaking I still feel they are money well spent.

After seeing your post with incorrect info. Yeah...
Except nothing was incorrect. You didn't provide me with a sub $700 PC system with all of the bells and whistles included. And I'm going to call you on your bullshit — you find yourself in these discussions because you can't help yourself. You walk around acting like PC is end all be all, while also having to join console conversations claiming some absolute bullshit about having to "correct errors". Get the fuck out of here.

Valve really needs to fix that mess. And yeah, trophies are a big reason why I game on PlayStation. Just adds another dimension to the game that I enjoy. Really satisfying to get that Platinum which is something that I really wish other achievement systems would copy.

Only thing that kinda sucks imo is having to wait for games to be patched in order to take full advantage of the new system. That shit doesn't happen on PC and I wish they sort it out for the future PS6 Pro.

Or even better yet, make consoles modular so you can put together your console as if was some Lego. I wonder if that'd work.

And yet you magically always find yourself in them.
This place would be very boring if all we did was circle jerk around our favorite stuff. Some discussion is fine and I appreciate both Bojji's and the console bros talks on the matter.

"I'm tired of these discussions". Someone who truly believed that wouldn't be in those same discussions at every turn.

Also, no one said anything about a circlejerk. What I don't appreciate is some holier than thou bullshit. I appreciate a good convo when it has good intentions, but this is someone who has shat on the Pro from the word Go.

Where is this mystical Playstation you can buy for only $25? Goodwill? Oh I didn't know you were a dumpster diver. :messenger_tongue: Oh my God, you're going out of your way to defend some 10 yr old you don't even know lol

Except it didn't happen. I was very interested in Pro performance because I'm interested in this stuff since PS3 (console power, gfx tech etc.). I wanted to buy this console day one as well.

But then Cerny video happened and with that price and disc drive stuff all hype died. They are clearly milking consumers here.

I know you guys will hype anything Sony releases, no matter if it's good or bad value...

Looking online right now and they're all between 25 and 50.

Or try Akihabara in Japan. Picked up a sealed Dreamcast with VMU + Controller for 60 iirc. Playstations went for less, though accessoires were often missing.

Yeah they can fuck off with the pricing. I’m patient and have a huge backlog so can wait for sales and buy cards at a 15% discount so it works out ok. but it sure is shit being tied in to one store, I know I can buy physical and I still should support it but I am now probably 80% digital.

I’m only rewarding developers with my hard earned £70 when it is deserved. They have to start earning that more on the last half of this generation.

More gaslighting, stupid bullshit...

"Milking their customers" - Yeah, how?

"I know you guys will hype anything Sony releases" - says the man who has to come remind everyone that he sleeps with his PC under his pillow. Again, step off with your high horse garbage.

Now, to the important stuff, I already sought this "value" you speak of from your favorite platform. You cannot build a PC like the Pro and spend just $700. Can you at least agree to that or are you "tired of this discussion"?

The 4090 is more than great, fuck is it good value though lol. Only the most loyal Jensen chode suckers will flap that from their gums.

What did you expect? PS5 Pro just made the gap between consoles and PC smaller.
Just like the consoles that came before it, same old shit. 5090 is next! let's all pull our pants down for that chode I mentioned.

Again? In Poland I can buy NEW PC for ~920 Euro with 4070 and 5500 CPU. Pro is 800 Euro.

I'm tired of these discussions.
Why does it always come back to price?
4070 super(cheapest one I found) is 640 Euro alone, so I doubt 920 euro figure to be a 2tb, 3700x+ pc, new and with peripherals and OS.
ps5 pro is indeed 800 euro

But price is not what matters here. I would still game on console more even if it was more expensive.
The argument about monetary value is only one of MANY reasons people prefer to play on console or pc.
For me it's not about the money, it's about comfort of playing on console, playing the game prepared by devs, There are no disctracitons, screenshot button is right there, I can own my games and so on so on.
On pc, I was feeling like nvidia made a fool of me and my money on every step, considering there are always some issues.
But the differences are small and closing. It's down to personal choice and I just prefer ps5 pro now

I agree that it's great, no doubt about it. But, so is the Pro.

To me, the value is up to the individual. In my world, is a 4090 great value? Absolutely, because as both a user who plays games and a character artist, it will be in a highly used, multipurpose machine (more so than my Pro will ever be). I just don't understand why people have to speak on value like it is universal. Sure, the Pro isn't a mass market item, but it clearly has its audience. I don't see why that ruffles feathers.

$920 > 800.

If you are tired of these discussions, stop going into PS5/Pro related threads to talk about PC. This is a YOU problem.

I'm tired of baiting me into Pro vs. "PC for Pro price" discussions.

Why does it always come back to price?
4070 super(cheapest one I found) is 640 Euro

Regular 4070 is decently better than Pro and it's 550 euro.

I won't tell you on what platform you should play, it's your preference entirely. I spend like 50% of the time on PS5 and people here call me Sony hater...

It's the opposite for me, I went full PC in the 2010s because I just didn't care for the latter days of the 360/PS3/Wii era. The early days of the Xbone/PS4/Wii-U were abysmal and further continued the trends I disliked, but in 2017 and 2018 I returned to consoles once the Switch launched and the PS4 really came into their own. PC parts became expensive due to the mining craze and so many PC ports started having significant bugs and performance issues the console versions didn't suffer from. So I bought a Switch and then a PS4 Pro, knowing both would not be comparable to my PC with its 1070. The console experience done well makes it so easy to get into and out of games, and not have to deal with the little points of friction like controller compatibility and having a whole OS running in the background to annoy or distract you. I enjoy consoles when they're not just trying to be like a PC.

Funny enough, the PS5 Pro seems like it's trying hard to be a PC, it doesn't offer anything over my PS5 except for pure performance (not enough to really make a big difference imo).

Of course not.
Already said you can buy used crap at that point.. might find good deals at the dump site.

Playing Ratchet Rift apart the IQ is insane the framerate is not too bad
I would suggest trying Forbidden West for impressive IQ. TLOU Part I also, personally.
