PS5 Pro | Red Dead Redemption 2 v1.00 Resolution Bump Confirmed.

Edit: If any mod comes through can you change the title to "Clarity" Bump Confirmed rather than Resolution. As I have no way to actually verify if the resolution has been increased. I'm suspecting that it has not, but because I tested this game with PS4 game enhancement feature turned on, I believe that it did in fact make the game more clear with less blurriness on finer details.

Doing some independent journalism here, since not many websites or youtubers discuss this version of the game. But I can confirm for those interested, that the PS5 Pro does indeed boost the resolution of Red Dead Redemption 2 v1.00, which in turn optimizes the clarity of distant objects especially, including foliage anti-aliasing/sharpness and distant scenery such as mountains and clouds. The game still runs at 30fps of course but the frame pacing seems better to me in this game over other 30fps games and now with the PS5 Pro any technical issues/stuttering can be fully brute forced out of the way.

Previously, only the Xbox 1 X/Series X could run this game in native 4K. The game was locked to a checkerboard 4K solution on PS4 Pro and PS5. Now with the features of the PS5 Pro, it seems to have noticeably upscaled the checkerboard solution, however I have no way of personally testing whether it is actually native 4K or not. I just know it's much more clear to my eyes while playing on a 55" LG OLED E8.

If you happen to be stuck on console, whether that be Xbox 1 X/Series X or even a regular PS5, this is still the best way to play the game if you can give up extra features such as the weapon locker and the ability to click the left stick while galloping on horseback to gain some extra stamina back, which were added in later updates.

v1.00 features more frequent volumetric weather systems along with having noticeably thicker volumetric fog in certain instances, ambient occlusion functions the best in this mode, there is more abundant wildlife and there are certain things that you can do in this version that you can't in subsequent updates such as camp on Tempest Rim which places you outside of the slip boundary, allowing you easily explore to the North out of the map into "Canada" as I like to call it and all the way around to Mexico and even Guarma if you so please. This version also allows to use Arthur's buttoned winter jacket from the prologue and grants you the ability to go shirtless if you please.

It's a lot of fun and I definitely recommend it.

So on pro it’s the same resolution and frame pacing as on series X?
I haven't witnessed it first hand on a series X so I can't 100% confirm. But like I said, to me, the frame pacing in this game is much better than most games 30fps games. I also can't fully confirm if it's native 4K like on Xbox but it's a significant upgrade in clarity over the base PS5.

Thanks. Was tempted to double dip….

I still can't believe this (and bloodborne) still don't have a patch to make them just run at 60...
RDR2 was one of the last games I played on PS4, I was saving my Gold Rush trophy for the PS5 patch...

Still the only Rockstar game I have ever 100% (in the menus, not trophies).

It looks the exact same. The Xbox One X version is native 4K and is razor sharp compared to this.

I'm also pretty sure the PS4 enhancement only works on 1080p. It's why I want them to add the option to downscale games to 1080p and then enhance them back up to 4K, because the enhancement arguably looks better than even some of the '4K' solutions developers used on the PS4 Pro.

So was resolution on PS4 Pro uncapped? Otherwise, I can’t see how it’s been improved.
Apparently the internal resolution is 1920x2160 then upscaled to 4K using checkerboarding. I just don't personally have the info if it's dynamic resolution or not. I would think that it is, as some areas of the game are much more graphically heavy than others, such as St. Denis.

I was also playing this with the PS4 game enhancer turned on, so that may have cleared up much of the blurriness if it is NOT in fact bringing it up to 4K.

I'm not going to claim that it's making it full 4K now or not, but what I can confirm is that it's less blurry too my eyes. I only know this because of how much I've played this version of the game lol. Hopefully someone else who actually knows what they're doing can look into it.

I believe it. Sony has been saving Bloodborne like they did with Demons souls first. RDR2 will get a future port, surprised people don’t know how rockstar yet.

Except a close to release port of RDR2 seems like a no brainer for PS5, they did the same for GTA 5 on the PS4 and now PS5 already, I just don't get why they have held off so long for the PS5 in regards to RDR2.

It definitely doesn't look the same to me while playing, the distant backgrounds have had a boost in clarity as well as the trees like I said, however I'm not claiming the resolution has been bumped to 4K.

I just think PSSR has cleaned up some of the anti-aliasing which is what I'm seeing. Maybe I should have titled this thread differently. But hopefully this opens up the discussion for someone who can actually measure it.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

No, that's not how it works.

The PS4 Pro version used checker-board rendering with up-scaling at the horizontal access, the One X versions runs with native pixels.

The PS4 Pro version's checker-boarding implementation is kinda subpar and has a lot of artifacts.

This was one of those weird games that changed rendering styles if you set your PS4 Pro to 1080p on the system level. It runs native 1080p that way and adds a TAA sharpness slider that's not there when running the game at 2160p. A lot of us ran the game that way, it looked kinda sharper than the game's poor CB implementation.

I haven't seen the Xbox version first hand, though I would bet it still isn't as sharp as that version. I may buy a Series X at some point to test it.
You'll be surprised. The X1X had this at around a full fat native 4k. The XSX uses the exact same settings. This is why it looks better, as the PS5 is constrained by the poorer IQ from the PS4 Pro version. Like I say it really needs a next gen patch unfortunately.

Biggest rip off in the gaming industry.

We went from a jaguar cpu to a zen 2 and they just purposely refuse to unlock the framerate but will be charging you for a remaster at 60fps just watch.

But if i change my cpu on a pc i can crank up the fps any way i like?

Man, you've fully piqued my interest as a 1.00 fanatic who literally refuses to touch the massively downgraded versions. But I'll have to see for myself because I find those screenshots impossible to judge due to compression.

It's never going to match the X version native 4K (best looking RDR2 in general), but I'd like to see improved on PS5 as that's where my main, thousand of hours, Chapter 2 save is.
Some of the games I've tried with Image Enhancement look significantly sharper and cleaner to the point they legitimately look like they run at much higher resolution, seeing this happen to this visual, perfect masterpiece of RDR2 1.00 would be surely appreciated.

People know how Rockstar is but are still shocked at just how shitty a company like them can treat an entire platform the way they are. It's just disgusting considering a) the game sold so well b) we've had the hardware to do 60 fps since 2020 and now the Pro has the power to run it at 4k/60 without sacrifice and c) people have been begging for years now

Rockstar is a POS for not patching this. At least Sony has 'some' excuse for not patching Bloodborne. Rockstar has none.

Yup it's disgusting and don't let anyone try to justify why this is ok cause it ain't

Should’ve been a patch when the new consoles came out, I can’t imagine this would be hard to do, to give the option at least. Frankly they should’ve had an enhanced version ready to go. I woulda bought it. Take two makes no fucking sense
