PSM: PS4 specs more powerful than Xbox 720

If ps4 is launching last, wouldn't we expect it to be more powerful? I mean why would you wait for the console that launches last if it wasn't at least marginally more powerful than the rest (excluding exclusives).

When it releases means nothing, as the this gen shows. The PS3 and Wii launched days apart, a year after the 360, and the Wii is a generation behind and PS3 is effectively the same as the 360.

Unfortunately I've learned from my mistakes, I won't be apart of the console launch wars this time.

Prepare for the next super expensive gen!

I'm really glad MS and Sony are trying hard to one-up each other again, despite the economy and the Wii success story.
Things are looking grim for Nintendo die-hards when it comes to third-parties.

Xbox 360 launched at the same price as PS2. Yeah, you needed to buy a memory card. Oh, wait... PS2 also needed one.
And I may have 60GB of games and DLC on mine, but I don't know a single other person IRL who's downloaded anything from XBLM.

Let's hope the new xbox fails then.

I see where you're going with this, but wouldn't it be a lot better for Wii U to fail? Nintendo goes third-party, develops for PS4... everyone wins.

I dunno. I like the idea of an extreme arms race between the Unsustainable Twins. In the long term, Nintendo may well benefit.

Oh, PSM, Oh PSM!

I will never forget when that one tool, who became their editor, wrote a review for Warhawk when it came out. They actually docked the game because there were not enough people to play online (their review came out before the game was even released) and the people who were online were whiny and immature or something.

Yes, those were the negative points! I even wrote PSM a huge letter cause that review was one of the worst I have ever read. Anyone who ever enjoyed Warhawk and read the PSM Review will remember it. I think it was scored a 7/10.

Anyways, It will be interesting to see what the specs will truly be when they are announced. I am much older, much more mature, and much smarter than I was when any other system has ever been announced. Needless to say, I am much more interested in the specs than I have been for any previous system. In the end, I will still only buy one, either PS3 or Xbox.

I wouldn't be shocked if MarkMan did know something.
My sister works for another peripheral manufacturer with offices in San Diego, but she hasn't heard anything. :(

I think even if PS4 is more powerful than the others, Wii U, PS4, and Xbox 720 will still share the same third party games more or less.

For all we know Microsoft may be going the Wii-route, keeping hardware cheap to catch their Kinect momentum and have no interest in competing with Sony in regards to raw hardware power.

Yeah, just like Xbox1 despite having almost double the RAM and a much more flexible GPU and CPU than PS2.
What really aided PS2 was its massive VRAM bandwidth and fillrate.

PS2 already had a lot of momentum, so that's where developer focus was. Stuff like Chaos Theory showed us what might have been.

Yeah the system's life was really tragically cut short.
DOA Ultimate, Stranger's Wrath, Riddick, Doom 3, Half-Life 2 - all considerably beyond what the PS2 or GameCube could pull off.

Yep, and you're doing a good job of continuing it.

If "Wii U version, lol" doesn't become a meme within a year of the launch of the first Unsustainable Twin, I'll let you pick an avatar for me. How's that?

No. What really aided the PS2 was the massive third party support Sony was able to carry over into that generation from the previous one. Their amazing standing during the generation with PS1/N64 helped them massively during the PS2 era.

This is why I hope all three are fairly close technically. And also fairly advanced spec wise.

The last thing I want next gen is for say the Wii U to win the sales war and for it to be noticeably less powerful than the other two but hav most of the ports based on the Nintendo limitations thus hampering all multiplat games.

Wii U is comparable to this gen in power but maybe a bit more, Xbox 720/ps4 going to be a gen difference in tech so I see it being similar to this gen in terms of ports. Wii U having in own substantially lesser version

Release more insider info plz.

Can someone Google all the comments from developers damning it with faint praise? I'm just too damned lazy.

We know next to nothing about the hardware inside Wii U. I don't understand how people cane make such claims without prior knowledge as to what exactly they're talking about.
Going by the current generation, it's a somewhat fair assumption that Wii U will probably be less powerful, technically, than the PS4/NextBox. However, to say that it'll be comparable to the current generation is an assertion that spans beyond the acceptable range. We only have vague rumors about the GPU and CPU inside one of the earliest devkits. Aside from that, we have claims by developers saying that it'll be 50% more powerful than the current gen, to very much more powerful.

Also, I'm not expecting the next gen to be that much more powerful than the current gen. Developer costs will skyrocket, and following current trends, it's very likely that it'll be much more about focusing on the experience than the graphics. We will see a bump in visuals--that's for sure--but not to the degree that most in this thread are expecting. This is why I also believe that all three consoles will be comparable to each other. We've seen, so far, what Nintendo has to offer on the experience side of the matter, now we need to see what the PS4/NextBox can offer. That's my main focus. Of course, I'd love a graphical leap, as well. To not expect one would be ridiculous.

Because of higher-quality assets? If so, I disagree. People are already building assets a lot better than what we see in-game... have been pretty much this whole gen. Next-gen, they'll just have to cut them down less.

People make thr claim about Wii U tech being comparable because Nintendo is not the company that's going to put out a product and take a loss on it. And it's practically impossible not to if you are releasing a console with next gen hardware. Nintendo's history indicates this.

I believe it.

When developer's actually know what they're doing with the PS3's hardware we end up with gorgeous exclusives and marvelous 3rd party games.

Killzone 2 is still one of the best looking games this gen ...

I don't think you want to do that. I'll give you a chance to back out. :)

Nintendo's history (the majority of it) indicates otherwise, actually. Taking a loss on next-gen hardware is not a necessity, and Nintendo knows this best. The way they tackle it, however, is another story (see Gamecube's discs, N64's cartridges). I'm not expecting Wii U to be a powerhouse comapred to the other two consoles, but I'm sure it'll provide "next-gen" visuals.

This again? Every generation is so predictable. Next up MS debuts the console and Sony shows a bunch of fake trailers while swearing up and down that they are in game.

Yes and no. Definitely not on 1st party software. But I agree in the 3rd party territory.
