PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

Why do people not have the right to complain about Sony right now?

At this point, it doesn't matter how the network went down (hack, DDOS, bugs, etc...) point is, it's down again. And the competitor's network has been up the whole time.

I was going to buy Destiny for PS4 day 1, now there's no way I'm going to do that.

No.

You know while I hate the pieces of shit doing this I have to agree. Sony should have actually oh I dunno upgrade their shit and be prepared after the 2011 hacks. It's not a surprise that Sony for some reason has been the target of groups as far back as then due to things they did. Yet it seems that Sony hasn't been prepared at all. If even some of the stuff they say Sony has continued to allow happen security wise is true then that is just bullshit on Sony's end and uncalled for.

Say what you want about the shit Microsoft pulled you can't deny that live stands up against this shit when everyone else folds faster then TNA wrestling burns through money. It's just nuts.

But all we have as evidence of attacks on XBL even happening is the words of Lizard Squad, and we can trust them/him, right?

Also, because it needs repeating, this is not a hack. Nothing has been breached.

b/c they are fanboys? this entire thing is stupid. the two main targets have been Activision blizzard and Sony and its no secret that there are xbox fanboys pissed off and worried that the Destiny Sony deal will make the ps4 pull that much farther ahead. I know its a bit out there but people who do this kind of shit are also a bit out there. If they wanted to take down live they probably could if they stopped focusing on others and took a bit more time to prepare instead of going after sony again and again.

All of this is speculation and these people have only given a BS reason for doing this I am letting my mind run wild

So here is the problem with this:

a) The fact that they are 'fanboys' is tales from your ass. A complete guess, which is improbable since:
b) Xbox Live WAS attacked. It was down for a few minutes, but rebounded & Activision is a key Xbox partner (hello, COD).
c) 'I know it's a bit out there' - lol
d) 'If they wanted to take down live they probably could' - Tales from your what?
e) @ the bolded part - Come back down to earth and wait for some evidence.

It's a huge reach to suggest this will affects Sony's sales in any non-trivial way. This would have to be sustained over a much longer period of time to do that.

i'm gonna love reading about their jail sentences in about a year. complimentary pictures with their concerned faces will be glorious.

remember lulzsec?

Quick question: Is Destiny using Azure?

Because if it isn't, the premature talk of switching to Xbox One for Destiny might not matter...it doesn't matter if you can get to live if Destiny's servers are DDoS'd (and these guys are attacking Activision/Blizzard servers too).

So, when they find these guys what will they expect in terms of sentence? If they're underage they will probably spend some months inside correctional and go back out. They need to tighten up the penalties for doing shit like this. They know the harm they're causing. The whole bomb threat alone can cost them 5 years but only if they're adults right?

Some of these posts in this thread ...simply wow!

Anyway its all a cost-benefit analysis in the end...the chances of something like this happening are small and the cost to high to maintain that level of security..its just a game service in the end ..like Battlenet for example

The fact that MS can deal with it is that they use their Azure cloud for much more important stuff. If it were just a game service they would be having the same problem. Lucky for Xbox owners.

destiny runs on activision's servers iirc

The wild speculations without proof in this thread does need to stop though.

ALTHOUGH I DO WONDER WHY EA SERVERS AREN'T HIT

/s

exactly and yes there is no proof but this guy proved his immaturity the other day with the sony exec bomb threat and the call me god and i will give you access to psn crap. it is far from silly to think this is not a xbox fanboy or boyz at work. If someone has a more logical reason for this happening within weeks of destiny or really happening at all , I am all ears

I blame Pewdiepie.. he has mentioned a PS4 in a video.. now all his followers are buying a PS4 and signing in to PSN, this broke the system..

I made a graph to illustrate it..

You know a lot about networking, don't you?

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about networking (I'm an expert), but clicking that DDoS prevention box is a huge part of it. It's not like it is in 2011 where you can become successful by being insecure. If you are vulnerable to a DDoS in 2014, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase PlayStation, nor will they purchase any of PS4's games or PS+. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move.

Sony, publicly apologize and stop all DDoS attacks forever or you can kiss your business goodbye.

So who is responsible? I remember a few thousand psots back that Fame was saying Lizard Squad was just taking credit or Fame's work. Or was it the other way around?

Shouldn't it rise after the video and not before? Not that I'm against the cat graph of course.

The Age of Sony(Part 2) is done!

Just on a hunch, I checked NPDs when PSN was down during the hack of 2011 when it made worldwide news of being the largest personal data theft/hack ever, and PSN was down for several weeks.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=430044

Both months of the hack showed year over year growth (not nearly as much as 360 though) and was in line with other months of the normal 360/PS3 sales gap for the generation.

Of course I'm not a huge sales data guy so if I'm wrong let me know, but a quick glance says even the most major network outages don't seem to affect sales all that much.
That is a good find. I guess most people accept that networks get attacked, regardless of brand, and it is something we just have to live with as users of these services.

Ok, I know most people are joking about it, but the fact that some actually manage to find a way to blame MS for this is hilarious.

ok so if you want to wait for evidence then where is that evidence live was attacked. they has some problems that day which could have had nothing to do with a attack. we have a tweet from a jackass and that is not proof.

and why is me saying that someone can take down live with DDoS a tale from my ass?? there is no way to stop a DDoS that I know of? Regardless I stated its just speculation so whats the problem. there are plenty of people going on about how live is immune to a DDoS attack without proof

I'll never understand these losers, so dumb...just so dumb.

They live in another world. There was this article about the guy who said he played Gears way early because he got into MS/Epic servers. Forgott his name but he also had a thread here. Delusional. Or geohot and his whole trial. They don't realise why it's a crime to bring something down / deface a site / steal info from servers (or "prank" a flight bomb attack) till they are sitting in custody/ in the courtroom. Bet Lizard is a small group like lulsec was . Doubt it's only one guy.

Some of these people maybe get good IT jobs but there are others who get fucked up in court.

And Sony is never going to have the Server power MS has. MS is a network behemot and has to provide way more different services.

Edit: why is this thread getting about C-Warz now?

They'll bawl and whine about their autism/ ah wuz only doing it for the lulz guize. Their parents will say they can't be responsible for what their children do and the judge will give them a telling off, then ban them from Facebook for 48hrs.
